<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

COMBINABLE DUST VACUUM AND RELATED ACCESSORIES.
The present invention relates to a combinable dust extractor and related accessories.
In known dust vacuum cleaners, the motor has no other use than to produce a suction or blowing effect, which limits the possibilities of using these devices.
The object of the invention is a dust extractor with a wider application than that of similar known devices and differing from these in particular by the fact that the motor can also be used for other purposes. than those usually common to the devices in question.
The motor of the vacuum cleaner according to the invention can also serve as a source of motive power for various other household appliances, such as grinders, mixers, polishers and the like. Fulfilling various functions, its use is more economical than in the usual vacuum cleaners where, apart from the production of a suction work, it is without use.
In an advantageous embodiment of a vacuum cleaner according to the invention, the motor on the side of the blower is provided with a shaft intended to actuate a mechanical device which, for example, can be an accessory constituting a waxing machine for parquet floors. . When the coupling with the latter is achieved, the apparatus according to the invention can itself be used as a polisher, its suction part simultaneously serving as a dust extractor.
Instead of the aforementioned accessory constituting a polisher, another mechanical device can be coupled to the vacuum cleaner. Preferably, the latter will mate removably, so that it is possible to easily replace one accessory with another.
We know dust vacuum cleaners whose motor is for-
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
seen from a transmission shaft, toutefoi-s the latter is located on the suction side and actuates a rotating brush adapted to the mouthpiece.
In an advantageous embodiment of the invention, an accessory constituting a brush comprises a shaft capable of coupling to a motor mechanism materialized by the motor of the vacuum cleaner.
Another subject of the invention is a brush accessory capable of being introduced into spaces of low height, owing to the fact that the motor is not incorporated therein, its bulk is notably reduced.
In an advantageous embodiment, of a brush accessory according to the invention, the shaft coupling to that of a motor member is of polygonal cross section, the second comprising a coaxial recess of corresponding shape allowing the introduction of the first ..
In another similarly advantageous embodiment, the motor shaft is of polygonal cross section and the driven shaft has a corresponding coaxial recess.
In one or the other embodiment of a brush accessory according to the invention, the shaft is arranged in a sleeve articulated with the body of the brush and preferably containing a ball bearing for another shaft, one end of which is connected by an elastic coupling to the first shaft coupling to the motor shaft and the other end of which is connected, also by an elastic coupling, to a third shaft controlling a ball joint driving a friction disc which preferably, is concentric with another disc supporting the filaments of the brush and mounted on a vertical rotation shaft.
The envisaged embodiment has only one disc.
As a result, the height of the brush attachment is significantly reduced and the weight thereof is significantly less than that of similar known accessories.
A polisher equipped with a brush accessory according to the invention will be particularly easy to handle.
Other details and features of the present invention will emerge more clearly from the description given below, by way of non-limiting example and with reference to the accompanying drawings, of one of its embodiments.

Figure 13 is a longitudinal sectional view along the line XIII-XIII of Fig.12.
Figure 14 is an enlarged perspective view of details of Figures 12 and 13.
A dust extractor shown in fig. 1 is provided with a motor 1 contained in a box 2 closed by a cover 3. A dust filter is located in the housing 2 which is provided with an opening on which is mounted a mouthpiece of section 60 The cover 1 pre- feels an opening 1 to which a gripping handle 8 fits.
The dust extractor as shown in fig. 1 does not differ in principle from known devices. When using the vacuum cleaner, the air and dust are sucked, passing through the mouth 6, into a chamber 2, where the air is filtered by a filter 4 'on which the dust settles. The air thus filtered passes into a chamber 10 and escapes from the cover. 2 through openings not shown in the drawing.
The vacuum cleaner in question can also be used for purposes other than removing dust, as can be seen from FIG. 2, representing the same device, the motor '1 of which is contained in the box 2 closed by the cap 3 and comprising the filter 4. However., The handle 1 is adapted to the opening 5 of the box 2, the opening ¯7 of the cover 3 being provided with an accessory polisher 11 actuated by the motor 1. At the blower part of the motor 1 is provided a shaft 12 of polygonal cross section.
The shoe polisher-accessory 11 is provided with a shaft 13 having internally a longitudinal recess 14, of cross section coinciding with that of the shaft 12 of the motor The rotation of the shaft 12 drives that of the shaft 13 of the polisher. -accessory 11.
The vacuum cleaner shown in FIG. 2 can be used as a parquet polisher
Instead of the brush-accessory 11, another mechanical device can be actuated by the motor 1.
When using the vacuum cleaner shown in fig. 2, the air sucked in by the hollow handle. 1 enters chamber 2, passes through filter 4, into chamber 10 and escapes through the openings not shown in the drawing of the cover.: 2.-
In an embodiment other than that described above, the shaft 12 of the motor.1 internally comprises a longitudinal recess of cross section coinciding with that of the shaft of a mechanical device to be actuated.
An accessory brush shown in fig. 3 to 7 comprises a shaft 15 of polygonal cross section coupling to a drive shaft, for example to the transmission shaft, of an electric motor. Said motor shaft is provided with a coaxial recess of cross section coinciding with that of the shaft 15 of the brush accessory. It is understood that the opposite situation could arise.
The shaft 15. is arranged in a bush 16 articulated with a frame 17 of the brush accessory. In the sleeve 16 is provided a ball bearing 18 for a shaft 19, one of the ends 20 of which is connected to the shaft 15, by an elastic coupling 21, and the other end 22 of which is in

trice 25, actuating a friction ring 26-29.
The elastic coupling .2 facilitates the joining of the li shaft and the aforementioned motor shaft
It is obvious that the height of the brush-accessory shown in the drawings is less than that of similar known accessories.
The brush-accessory comprises a brush-disc 27 supporting filaments 28 At the rear of the latter and coaxially with the disc 27 is disposed a friction ring µ, of hard rubber or similar material, suitably fixed between flanges 30 and 21 perpendicular to the disc 27. The latter pivots around a perpendicular shaft.

dicular, 2¯, under the impulse communicated to it by the patella in contact with the friction ring 29.
The brush-accessory as shown in the drawings is of a relatively reduced height given that, in the example described, the device comprises only one support disc, the disc 27, whereas in similar devices known two discs are coupled, one being a friction disc, the other a brush disc. In addition, the use of a single disc makes it possible to reduce the weight of an accessory brush according to the invention.
EMI4.3
The disc 27 pivots around the shaft 2 which is perpendicular to it, as does a bush II concentric with the shaft 32 and perpendicular to the disc .27. A bush 34 integral with the latter is sus-

The coupling according to the invention also applies to accessory brushes for polishers or other devices in which a friction disc and a brush support disc cooperate.
The coupling device further comprises plates

<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
free ends of brackets 102 and 103 are pressed against one another.
For the opening of the device described above, it is necessary that the pushers 89 are lowered ,, then directed towards the enlargements 92 of the openings 90; the curved slats 88 pivot about the axis 98 of the levers 99; it is then possible, as a result of the action exerted by the springs 101, to slide the actuators 88 and 89 outwards, the widenings 92 of the openings 90 allowing the widened part 91 of the curved slats 88 to pass.
In order to facilitate the closing of the housing 86 by the cap 87 and to prevent a subsequent rotation of the latter, the bracket 103 is provided laterally with a lug 108.
The closures shown in the drawings are protected by the cap 87, and therefore cannot be damaged by impact. In addition, the maneuvering members 88 and 83 are located in the vicinity of the longitudinal axis of the housing and of the cover, which also protects them against any damage.
It is obvious that the invention is in no way limited to the only embodiments described above and that, without departing from the scope of the present patent application, many modifications could be made thereto, in particular as regards the number, form, arrangement and constitution of the elements involved in its realization.
