CLEF A ECROUS A MACHOIRE .COULISSANTE.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
La même invention est applicable à une autre,clef à mâchoire coulissante proposée antérieurement par le demandeur dans laquelle la mâ- choire mobile est rapprochée de la mâchoire fixe lorsqu'on rapproche dû manche un levier pivotant par rapport à une des mâchoires et auquel est articulée une biellette articulée d'autre part à une pièce solidaire de l'autre mâchoi- re, dans laquelle l'axe de'l'articulation entre le levier pivotant et la biellette peut être amené au-delà de l'alignement déterminé par l'axe du pivot du levier et par l'axe de l'articulation de la biellette avec la pièce soli- daire de la mâchoire autre que celle à laquelle le levier est articulé et dans laquelle il existe entre le levier et le manche susdit, un deuxième;

SLIDING JAW NUT KEY.
The present invention relates to a wrench with jaw nuts sliding along a guide forming the handle of the key and carrying a fixed jaw, in which the movable jaw is brought closer to the fixed jaw when approaching the handle. a lever pivoting relative to one of the jaws and carrying, by means of a pivot with an axis parallel to the pivot axis, -of the lever, a movable element -in contact with a ramp integral with the other jaw and inclined relative to the guide 'aforesaid. in which the movable element in contact with the ramp -susdite can:
be brought beyond the alignment perpendicular to this ramp which passes through the pivot axis of the lever and in which there is, between the aforementioned lever and the handle, a second lever allowing, by a thrust exerted on it towards the handle, to move the first lever away from the handle when the point of contact of the cramp with the movable element in contact therewith is beyond the aforesaid alignment.
The applicant has already proposed keys of this type in which each time a nut is tightened, the point of contact with the ramp -of the movable element in contact therewith exceeds the aforesaid alignment.
Consequently, each tightening movement must be followed by an action on the aforesaid second lever to loosen the nut.,
The object of the present invention is a wrench with sliding jaw nuts by means of which it is possible, when desired, to prevent that after the tightening movement of a nut, the latter automatically remains wedged between the jaws. '
For this purpose, in the key according to the invention, between the second the aforesaid vier and that of the two parts on which this. lever presses when it is rotated, there is provided a stop which can be brought into a position for which the point of contact with the ramp of the mobile element in contact with the latter cannot pass beyond the above alignment.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
In an advantageous embodiment, the aforesaid movable stop pivots relative to that of the two parts which carries it.
Preferably; the aforementioned stop is of adjustable length in order to facilitate the adaptation of the key to nuts of different diameters.
The same invention is applicable to another key with sliding jaw previously proposed by the applicant in which the movable jaw is brought closer to the fixed jaw when a pivoting lever is brought closer to the handle with respect to one of the jaws and to which is articulated. a connecting rod articulated on the other hand to a part integral with the other jaw, in which the axis of the articulation between the pivoting lever and the connecting rod can be brought beyond the alignment determined by the axis of the pivot of the lever and by the axis of the articulation of the connecting rod with the solid piece of the jaw other than that to which the lever is articulated and in which there is between the lever and the aforesaid handle, a second ;
lever allowing, by a thrust exerted on it towards the handle, to move the first lever away from the handle when the axis of the articulation between the pivoting lever and the said rod is beyond the aforesaid alignment .
: In this case, between the aforementioned second lever and that of the two aforesaid parts on which this lever presses when it is rotated, there is a stopper which can be brought into a position for which the axis of the l The articulation between the link and the aforesaid first lever cannot pass beyond this alignment.
Another feature of the nut wrench according to the invention consists in that the aforesaid second lever pivots relative to the handle and presses against the first lever on the side of its pivot opposite to that where the free end of the first lever is located.
In previous keys where this second lever existed, the latter pivoted at its end relative to the first lever, and presented between, its pivot and its free end, a cam-shaped profile by which it pressed against the handle of the key.
The invention also relates to a key with jaw nuts sliding along a guide forming the handle of the key - and carrying a fixed jaw, in which the movable jaw is brought closer to the fixed jaw when the of the handle a pivoting lever with respect to one of the. jaws and carrying, by means of a pivot with an axis parallel to the pivot axis of the lever, a movable element in contact with a ramp integral with the other jaw and inclined relative to the aforesaid guide and in which a return spring - constantly tends to move the aforementioned lever and movable jaw away from the handle and the fixed jaw respectively.
In the previous keys proposed by the applicant, the aforesaid spring is fixed, on the one hand, to an adjustable position part along the handle, and, on the other hand, to the free end of an integral arm. of the nut tightening lever located on the side of the handle opposite to that where this lever is located. In addition, the core of the U constituting the latter was partly removed in order to facilitate the movement of the movable member. in contact with the above-mentioned ram. ,
In order to protect this spring from shocks to which it could easily be subjected with the known keys of the aforementioned type, it is planned to house it, at least in large part, inside the 'U.
In a particular embodiment, this spring is connected on the one hand ,. to the movable jaw and, on the other hand, to a lever pivoting relative to the handle and pressing against the interior of the core of the U.
Other features and details of the invention will become apparent from the description of the drawings appended hereto, which represent schematically, and by way of example only, some embodiments of the key according to the invention.

Figures 6, 7 and 8 are elevational views, partially cut away, of part of three other embodiments of the key according to the invention.
In these different figures, the same reference notations designate identical elements. @
In Figure 1, there is shown a nut wrench comprising a fixed jaw 2 integral with a handle 3 and a movable jaw 4 slid along the handle. This last jaw can be moved when a lever 5 is rotated around a pivot 6 supported by a part 7, the position of which along the handle 3 can be adjusted, for example, by turning in a threaded hole 8 a screw 9 immobilized axially with respect to the handle 3; using clamps 10 and 11.
The lever 5 which pivots relative to the part 7 can therefore be considered as pivoting relative to the fixed jaw. 2. The lever 5 has a U-shaped cross section, the blade of which is removed over part of its length at the place designated by 12. One of the wings of this U is designated by 13. These two wings are directed towards the handle 3. .
The pivot 6 is joined to another pivot 14 by a part 15. which at the same time serves as a spacer for the two wings of the U constituting the lever 5.
The pivot 14 has its axis parallel to the pivot 6 and carries a movable pad 16 in contact with a ramp 17 integral with the movable jaw 4. This ramp is inclined relative to the guide of the movable jaw 4 consisting of handle 3.
This inclination is such that when the lever 5 is brought closer to the handle 3, for example, from the position in phantom lines to the position shown in solid lines, the movable jaw 4 is brought closer to the fixed jaw 2, also passing from the position shown in phantom to the position shown in solid lines.
For this last position, the axis of the pivot 14 is a little beyond the alignment 18 perpendicular to the ramp 17 which passes through the axis of the pivot
6. It follows that if, in the position shown in solid lines, a nut is tightened between the jaws 2 and 4, the lever 5 remains in the relative position which it occupies with respect to the handle 3 and that the key can be abandoned on the nut that it jams.
To easily remove the key, you can act in the direction of the - arrow! at the end of a second lever 19 which pivots at 20 relative to the first lever 5. This second lever presses against a stop 21 carried by the part 7 of adjustable position on the handle 3. This stop pivots at
22 relative to the part 7. When it is rotated a quarter of a turn in the direction of the arrow Y from the position in which it is shown, the lever 19 abuts against a screw 23 engaged in the stop 21; before the lever 5 has reached a position where the axis of the pivot 14 is beyond the alignment 18.
As a result, for this new position of the stop 21, each time that the lever 5 is stopped to be pressed towards, the handle
3, this lever moves away from this handle under the action of a spring 24 which is, on the one hand, hooked at 25 to the movable jaw 4 and, on the other hand, connected at 26 to a pivoting lever 27 at 28 relative to the part 7 integral with the handle and pressing against the inside of the core of the U which constitutes the lever 5.
The spring 24 is housed largely inside this U.
