DISPOSITIFS ANTI-POMPAGE POUR REGULATEURS ELECTRIQUES A SERVO-
MOTEURS.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

ANTI-PUMPING DEVICES FOR ELECTRIC SERVO REGULATORS
ENGINES.
The present invention relates to devices making it possible to eliminate pumping phenomena in the operation of regulation systems, actuated by electric regulators with servo motors.
In regulator systems of this kind, the variations of the quantity to be regulated, with respect to a predetermined fixed value, by means of a suitable device, cause contactors to be engaged, for example, in the case of actuator controls. electric; these start, in one direction or the other, so as to make the adjustment in the desired direction to restore the balance. As soon as this is reached, the contactors release, but as a result of inertia effects the servomotor continues to travel, exceeds the equilibrium point and the regulator reacts in the opposite direction. Hence the phenomenon of pumping.
The object of the present invention is to avoid the phenomenon described above, while maintaining the regulator's full sensitivity.
The present invention is essentially characterized in that, at the time of the operation of the regulating members caused by the regulator, suitable means are automatically implemented to increase the insensitivity range of the regulator, so that the operations of the actual adjustment are stopped prematurely, the end of the adjustment being obtained by the effects of inertia of the various moving parts.
The appended drawing represents, by way of indication and without limitation, an exemplary embodiment of a regulating device provided with means suitable for avoiding the pumping phenomenon, produced according to the invention.
It is proposed to regulate between two limits v and V the voltage at the terminals of a single-phase alternating current network, the terminals of which are represented by 1 and 2. In series with the use, including the connection
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
is provided at terminals 9 and 10, the secondary 4 of a transformer 3 is interposed, the primary 5 of which is supplied by an auto-transformer 6 with continuous adjustment ("rheotor"), the cursor 8 of this auto -transformer being driven by a reversible motor 8, for example a single-phase motor with auxiliary phase.
At terminals 9 and 10 of use, a voltage equal to the voltage at terminals 1 and 2 will be obtained, increased or reduced by the voltage induced in secondary 4 of transformer 3, a voltage which depends on the position of transformer 3, voltage which depends on the position of cursor 7 of the autotransformer 6.
The voltage at terminals 9 and 10 is rectified by a double diode II., After transformation by transformer 12; after filtering, a direct voltage is obtained between points 13 and 14, which voltage can be considered as proportional to the alternating voltage existing between terminals 9 and 10. This direct voltage supplies a bridge made up of two stabilizer tubes at gas 15 and 16 and two resistors 17 and 18. It is known that such a bridge is in equilibrium for a determined voltage. This equilibrium is achieved by the rheostat 19, for the normal value of the voltage at terminals 9 and 10. At this moment, the voltage between points 20 and 21 of the bridge is zero.
If the voltage at terminals 9 and 10 deviates from the normal value predetermined by the adjustment of rheostat 19, a potential difference will appear between points 20 and 21, of polarity corresponding to the direction of the variation. For example, the voltage across stabilizer tubes 15 and 16 remaining constant, if the voltage between terminals 9 and 10 increases, point 20 will become negative with respect to 21.
The potential difference between points 20 and 21 is applied between the gates of two triodes 22 and 23, the anode circuit of which comprises resistors 26 and 27 and is supplied by a direct current source 31, through a potentiometer 28 forming with resistors 29 and 30 a voltage divider. The voltage appearing between points 32 and 33 is inserted into the gate circuit of triodes 22 and 23; point 33, positive with respect to point 32, is connected to the cathodes and point 32 is connected to the gates by means of two resistors 24 and 25. The gates of triodes 22 and 23 are therefore negatively polarized by the voltage supplied between points 32 and 33.
If a potential difference appears between points 20 and 21, as a result of a variation in the network voltage, the gate of triode 22, for example, will become more negative while that of triode 23 will become less negative. , compared to cathodes. The current in resistor 26 will be higher than at rest, while it will be lower in resistor 27.
The resistors 26 and 27 are interposed in the gate circuits of two thyratrons 34 and 35, the prepolarization of which is provided by the potentiometer 28. The anode circuits of the thyratrons 34 and 35, supplied by the voltage of the network, include the electros of control of relays 36 and 37. A normally closed contact of relay 37 is interposed in the cooked air of the electro of relay 36, and vice versa, so as to prevent simultaneous operation of the two relays.
The initial polarization of the two thyratrons 34 and 35 is adjusted so that at rest, that is to say in the absence of variation in the voltage of the network with respect to the predetermined normal value, these thyratrons are non-conductors.
If a variation occurs, the currents in the resistors 26 and 27 vary in the opposite direction of each other; the grid of thyratron 35, for example, will become positive, while that of thyratron 34 will become more negative. The thyratron 35 being thus made conductive, the relay 37 will actuate its contacts while the thyratron 34 will remain non-conductive.
The contacts of relays 36 and 37 are arranged such that
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the engagement of any one of them causes the temporized engagement of a relay 38. In the example described, the closing of one of the contacts 40 or 41 causes the power supply to the relay. coil of a relay 38, via a suitable timing device, for example, a time constant circuit. Closing of contact 39 of relay 38 enables the servomotor 8 to be powered from the power supply network, in one direction or the other, depending on the position of the contacts of relays 36 and 37.
The timing device 43 has the particular advantage of preventing the operation of the regulating device during a rapid variation of the voltage to be regulated.
The servomotor 8 therefore rotates in a direction such that it tends to re-establish the equilibrium of the measuring bridge constituted by the stabilizer tubes 15 and 16 and by the resistors 17 and 18 and thus to maintain the voltage to be regulated. , between terminals 9 and 10, to a fixed value. In reality, the tension will be maintained between two values, as close together as possible, which determine the zone of insensitivity.
For example, if the nominal voltage is 220 volts, and if the insensitivity zone is set for + 2 volts, the regulating device will only come into action if the voltage to be regulated rises above 222 volts, or drops below 218 volts. If the voltage reaches; for example, the value of 223 volts, the regulator will come into action and the auto-transformer 6 will act until the voltage reaches 222 volts. At this time, the power to motor 8 will be cut off. However, as a result of inertia effects. cursor 7 will continue to move; if the voltage thus reached is less than 218 volts, the regulator will react in the opposite direction to the previous direction, and thus the pumping phenomenon will be initiated.
The application of the invention to the example described consists in providing the relay 38 with an additional contact 42 which, when the relay 38 engages, supplying the servo-motor 8, short-circuits the resistor 29 of pre-polarization of the triodes 22 and 23. The voltage between the points 32 and 33 will therefore decrease suddenly, the triodes 22 and 23 are less polarized, their anode current will increase and the gates of the thyratrons 34 and 35 will be more negative. The thyratron which was conductive, eg thyratron 35, will become non-conductive faster than if resistor 29 had not been shorted.
At this time, the power supply to the servomotor 8 will be cut off; the inertia effect will complete its occurrence but its effect will be limited in that the regulator will not, in the opposite direction, exceed the limits of the insensitivity zone, insensitivity momentarily increased by the short-circuiting of the resistance 29
When the regulator comes into operation, it reacted with normal sensitivity, but from the start of the action, the insensitivity zone has been artificially increased, until the shutdown. the action of the regulator, to avoid a reaction of the regulator in the opposite direction and consequently the appearance of the pumping phenomenon, the regulation being completed under the effect of the inertia forces.
Obviously, the characteristics of resistor 29 and timing device 43 must be determined as a function of the inertia of the entire regulator and the desired insensitivity zone.
When the whole of the regulator, or of its components, such as, for example, the autotransformer 6 has different passive resistances depending on whether the regulation is carried out in one direction or the other, the invention can be applied in providing separate polarizations for the triode tubes 22 and 23 and by providing the relay 38 with two contacts similar to the contact 42 which, each acting on different polarizations, will compensate for the differences in inertia effects.
It is obvious that the invention is not limited to the example described above and that any modification made to another part of the cir-

fired electrics or by other electric circuits comes within the natural scope of the invention.
