   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

    PROCEDE AUTOMATIQUE DE LISAGE ET DE PERFORATION DES CARTONS OU DE COMMANDE DES METIERS DE FACONNE ET MACHINES POUR SA MISE EN OEUVRE.

     C'est ainsi par exemple, que pour un carton JACQUARD à 1.200 crochets. 500 cartons représentent 600.000 données, bien des tissus nécessitant d'ailleurs des nombres de données supérieurs. Pour un tel nombre de données les dispositifs connus de lignes à retard., lignes à mercure ou tubes électroniques à mémoire ne peuvent être utilisés dans l'état actuel de la technique. En ce qui concerne les bandes de papier ou cartons perforés, ils ne peuvent non plus, être retenus parce que étant lents, coûteux et encombrants.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

C représente la carte à analyser ;

    AUTOMATIC PROCESS FOR LIGHTING AND PERFORATION OF BOXES OR ORDERING TRADES AND MACHINES FOR ITS IMPLEMENTATION.

   The object of the present invention is to facilitate and accelerate the operations which, starting from a drawing or a card layout, result in the control of the perforation punches of the cardboard boxes or that of the hooks of a shaped loom. .

   The main object of the invention consists in the storage of the data which constitute the different points of the fabric or of the map, this storage having to meet the following double goal: a) to allow the easy and rapid introduction of the armor, even of the more complex; b) increase the intrinsic efficiency of reading, armoring and mechanical control operations by adapting to the specific rate of each of these operations conducted separately, following the application of the principles of the division of labor.

   In its final state, that is to say after armoring, the storage device (s) must retain a number of data items equal to the number of boxes X number of holes in each box.

     This is the case, for example, for a JACQUARD box with 1,200 hooks. 500 boxes represent 600,000 data, many fabrics requiring more data. For such a large amount of data, known delay line devices, mercury lines or electronic memory tubes cannot be used in the current state of the art. As regards the strips of paper or perforated cardboard, they cannot be retained either because they are slow, expensive and cumbersome.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   Two means are, on the other hand, likely to be employed to ensure the rational storage of such a large amount of data, namely: - magnetic recording and photographic recording. than. According to the present invention, it is this last means, namely, photographic recording, which is adopted, and this, because of the ease of armoring which it provides, of the possibility of checking the re- results during operation, its easy storage and indefinite conservation.

   The photographic storage will be done, according to this principle, on the surface, in the form of a checkerboard in each column of which the points representing the same cardboard or the points of the same card stroke will be aligned. There will therefore be as many columns as there are boxes or card shots.

   As an indication, and to illustrate this principle, if each square of the checkerboard at 0.2 mm. aside, the 500 boxes and I.200 hooks of the case taken above as an example, will therefore occupy a surface of 10 x 24 cms.

   Such a checkerboard can be drawn either on a plate or on a film. The plate has the advantage of greater registration accuracy but, if it is proposed to divide the whole into small areas, the film proves to be more advantageous from the point of view of simplicity of production and handling of the plates. machines.

   According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, it is the use of the standard film which has been adopted in the following general form illustrated by FIG. 1 of the accompanying drawing.

   It can be seen, in this cessin, that the useful width (24 mm.) Of this standard film (35 mm) is divided into 72 columns al-a2-a3 ....... a72, representing, that is: 72 card strokes, ie 72 boxes, the length of a column being sufficient to represent a complete box (900-1200-1344 etc ..) at the rate of 50 horizontal lines bl-b2-b3 ..... b50 , or 50 hooks. per standard 19mm image.

   In this FIG. 1, this standard image of 24 mm × 19 mm is represented by the rectangle m - n - o - p -, r representing the usual perforations ensuring the driving of the film.

   Obviously, a sufficient number of films must be used in relation to the number of cartons.

   For the implementation of the invention, the first operation, whether it concerns plates or films, consists in translating the design or the card in the form of a checkerboard.

   The correspondence scale can be one line per hook and, at will, one column per box or alternatively per card stroke. This last correspondence scale must, in principle, be retained as being more economical and more practical to use, the transformation being able to be carried out at the final stage taking this into account at the time of the armoring.

   If a card is half strings for example, each string will occupy two consecutive lines. With some exceptions, the quadrilage ratio of the film (or plate) will not be the same as that of the card, given that said film (or said plate) is not a reproduction of the card which takes into account differences in warp and weft density, but storage at predetermined dimensions.

   The grid of the film (or of the plate) will be obtained by inscription by means of a modulated light while the mechanical organs and

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 optics move said film or plate in front of the light. The recording can be done by an operator reading the card, or, better, by a photoelectric reader equipped with one of the known methods for selecting colors.

   In a preferred embodiment of the invention shown schematically in FIG. 2 and making it possible to obtain this first operation of translating the drawing or the map in the form of a calendar.

   B represents a photoelectric analyzer selecting colors.

   C represents the map to be analyzed cut into strips of 72 strokes, map and illuminated by a lantern L.

   F represents the film recording one of the colors of said card,
M1 and M2 are fixed mirrors,
M3 is an oscillating mirror ensuring the synchronization of the two scans and involving in its evolution a grid g comprising 72 slots.

   M4 is a light modulator translating the color read on the card. s an electronic control amplifier. c a grid reading cell g with an optical assembly made up of a light source t, a light condenser u and an objective v.

   As indicated above, the card C and the film F (or sensitive plate) advance simultaneously, line by line, in the direction of the arrows.

   A determined color is selected on the map C by the device which comprises one or more cells, color filters or prisms. For the selected color, a voltage is delivered which aims to block the amplifier which triggers the printing of the film F by the modulator M each time a line of the grid g illuminates the cell c.

  In this way the grid of the film F is formed in a regular way by making the blanks correspond to the color selected on the map.

   In the representation of the card Ç of this figure 2, the horizontal lines of the checkerboard represent the strings and, those vertical, the strokes.

   If it is a translated card, the background will, for example, give white on the film and all the colored dots will give black.

  The film will then represent the lifting of the hooks exactly in black and white. Note that it is moreover possible to invert the blacks and whites, either by inversion of the light modulation control current, or by photographic inversion during development.

   For any other card, as many films will be prepared in the manner indicated above as there are colors in the design, each color appearing on its film in white on a black background.

   By then superimposing all these films each representing a color, all of these white surfaces are juxtaposed exactly without holes or overlaps, reconstituting a complete checkerboard. If we take, for example, the case of a card comprising five colors and a background and consider the six films representing 72 card strokes, the successive superposition of these films on a blank film would result in a uniform black printout with no remaining white and no double exposure, assuming proper color separation.

   But, if these six prints are made by interposing each time the corresponding weave made according to the same rules of rows and columns, the blank film is only printed on the squares forming a "background" or "mass" depending on whether the ar- sleeves

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 photographic walls are positive or negative.

   The stitches of the virgin film will then blacken, according to the following rule which is exactly that applied by the stitching machine in which each punch acts only under the simultaneous action of the hook of the armor sleeve and of the semple cord.

In the table above: N = black and B = white
If the design must be repeated, turned over, reworked, etc., it suffices to replace the color films in a suitable manner to obtain the desired result.

   Figure 3 of the drawing schematically illustrates the above rule. It shows, very schematically moreover, the superposition of the three films, or, more exactly, of the three categories of films serving as a basis for the production of a weaving machine, also constituting one of the objects of the present invention and achieving quickly by obtaining a final film comprising all the armored colors, the various copying operations, using a reduced size armor and facilitating the necessary registration.

   In this figure 3, Fc designates the film representing a color of the card, Fa designates the armor sleeve corresponding to this color and, Fv the blank film which is the same for all the armored colors and which will be used. for perforating cardboard boxes or for direct control of hooks on the loom.

   In this same figure, r, r 'and r "designate three light rays of which that r encounters black on the film Fc and is thus stopped without being able to come to impress the blank film Fv; selui r' which does not meet with black on the film Fc no more than on the film Fa crosses them both and comes to impress the film Fv, as for the ray r "it does not meet black on Fc, and. therefore crosses it, but it is intercepted by a black from the film Fa and therefore does not reach the film Fv.

   FIG. 4 is a less schematic representation than that of FIG. 3. We find there the three films Fc, Fa, Fv passing over rollers, respectively wc, wa and wv, driven by means of angle references. by a single drive shaft x. y1 and y2 represent objectives through which pass the light rays coming from a source z, consisting of a narrow slit strongly illuminated by a filament lamp.

   The films are driven continuously and synchronously.

   The final armored film thus obtained comprising all the armor colors and representing the play of each hook gives a general and very clear visual representation of all the armors and their tuning. It therefore allows both the reader, the map maker and the technician who designed the fabric to be aware of the corruption of the armor.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 which could have occurred, for example, at the junction of two colors, and thus, to make any useful correction before drilling the boxes or setting up on a loom to order the hooks.

   This armored film is in fact used, in its final stage of use, for perforating cardboard boxes or ordering hooks.

   .Following a final object of the present invention, this film passes, for this purpose, column by column, in front of a photoelectric reader.
Figure 5 of the drawing gives, by way of example, the schematic representation of such a machine.

   We see in Fd this armored film which corresponds, after recording of all the colors and armor, to the blank film Fv in figure 3.

   D represents a rotating distributor actuated, in synchronism, by a drive roller G, with the movement of said film Fd.

   L designates a light source, C a photoelectric cell, an amplifier and El, E2 ... appliances used to control the piercing punches of the boxes or to control the hooks, these appliances receiving a given electrical impulse by the µ cell amplified by and directed by the distributor D.

   The reading of the film Fd is carried out column by column and hook by hook in each column. When a column has been completely read, there is a rollback of the film and the dispenser, accompanied by a transverse offset of said film or of the reader by the value of a column to allow reading of the column. adjacent column that represents the neighboring box.

   In the solution which seems to have to be adopted in practice, the drilling of the cartons (or the lifting of the warp threads of the fabric) is carried out simultaneously after reading a complete column.

   The diagram of FIG. 6 shows the summary in their order of the various operations described successively above.

   In this diagram:
C represents the card to be analyzed;
II the color selector reading lamp shown in figure 2 and. which makes it possible to obtain as many films F1, F2, F3 ... as the card C contains colors.

   These films then access part III which corresponds to figures 3 and 4 and in which all of the color films F1, F, F3 .. are, with their weave Fa1, Fa2, Fa3 .... transferred to a - - - blank film, Fv which gives the anamorphic representation of the fabric and the play of the hooks.

   On leaving this machine part III, the film obtained Fo is ready to be used in the machine V corresponding to that of FIG. 5 for the selection of the control of the perforation of the boxes or by the direct control on a loom for hooks of armor mechanics.

   Finally, as goes without saying and as moreover already emerges from the foregoing, the invention is in no way limited to the only methods of implementation indicated above, very schematically moreover; on the contrary, it embraces all the variants of execution.
