 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

  IRON MINE SEAL.

   The invention relates to iron mine ponds which can give way under the pressure of the ground.

   Its purpose is to achieve a mine prop which consists, as is usual, of an upper prop and a lower prop which are connected to each other by a clamping lock, this prop mine being characterized, compared to known constructions, by a remarkably simple arrangement and maneuvering, that is to say easy installation and removal, whatever the thickness of the layer, and on the other hand especially by the fact that the value of the ratio of the friction surfaces in the lock, the value which determines its driving characteristic, can easily be adjusted at will, and more especially so as to reach a high value, reaching 1/4 and more.

   Advantages are obtained, in accordance with the present invention, in that, unlike current constructions in which the lock is fixedly assembled with the lower strut and represents an element of the latter, this lock constitutes an independent element. , which is therefore rigidly assembled neither with the upper strut nor with 19 lower strut, and on which 19 upper strut acts directly.

   By another fundamental difference vis-à-vis all known constructions for props, the lower prop consists of a profile with a cross-section, and the upper prop by a tubular profile in which the profile in the form of a cross. of the lower strut is inserted by sliding during the shortening of the strut when the latter collects the pressure.

   The lock is executed in such a way that in the corners

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 the cross-shaped profile of the lower strut engages a corresponding number of friction pieces which are applied against the profile of the lower strut by a bandage which surrounds them with a pressure of which the value d can be chosen 'a corresponding way.

   The wedge-shaped execution of the friction pieces which advantageously have the shape of an angle in contact with the tire by the edge of the wing has the effect that the tire placed around the friction pieces is subjected to, under the action of the pressure exerted on it by the upper strut, an additional tension which is added to the initial tension, which has the consequence that the friction against the lower strut is reinforced.

   To tighten the bandage, one can use means which, in themselves, are usual. In the interest of a secure tensioning and as much simplification as possible of the removal of the prop, it is particularly advantageous if the conical bandage is executed in the manner of a tension collar whose ears which are surrounded by a tension sleeve which can be tensioned using wedge systems and loosened by removing wedge systems.

   It can be seen that the construction described above in principle and in accordance with the present invention is not comparable to known constructions in which an upper strut with cross-shaped profile is blocked against a lower strut with tubular profile using a lock fixedly connected to the lower prop.

   Further features and details of the present invention will be described below with reference to the accompanying drawings which show preferred embodiments of props according to the present invention, which may yield under the action of pressure.

   - Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of the prop; - Figure 2 also shows, in a longitudinal section of 19 stanchion, an improved embodiment compared to Figure 1; FIG. 3 is a side view in a direction perpendicular to that in which FIGS. 1 and 2 are seen; - Figure 4 is a horizontal section of the lock; FIG. 5 represents an exemplary embodiment of the tension device for the bandage; - Figures 6 and 7 are front and side views, on a larger scale, of another embodiment of the lock, and - Figures 8 and 9 are sections, the first of the assembly and the second of a part, of two different embodiments of the tensioning device.

   The mine prop according to the present invention consists of the lower prop 10, a cross-shaped profile, the upper tubular prop 11, and the lock which is independent of the two ponds and which essentially consists wedge-shaped pieces 12 pressed against the lower leg flanges, 1.9, and bandage 13 which holds these wedge-shaped pieces together. The lower stud 10 carries the usual plate 14 forming a sole, the upper stud 11 the usual head 15. The upper stud 11 has, in addition, the usual rows of slots 16 for the positioning of the strut with any length by means of the positioning wedges 17.

   With the aid of suitable means such as transverse pins, mandrels, etc., 18, the lock, formed by the bandage 13 and the wedges 12, is held at the upper end of the lower stanchion. The wedge-shaped pieces 12 have at their upper end lugs 19 by which they rest in the initial position on the upper edge of the tire 13. A

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 The lower end of the wedge-shaped pieces 12 are again provided with lugs 20 on which the bandage rests when it slides along the edges 21 of the wedge-shaped pieces 12.

   The difference between the friction surface 12 on the tire 13 and the friction surface of the wedge-shaped pieces 12 against the wings of the lower strut 10
 EMI3.1
 determines the entrainment of the bandage by the upper band 11 which rests with all its weight on the upper edge of the bandage 13. The bandage is executed in the form of a conical collar and is combined with a tension device 23 disposed against the lugs 22 which move apart , or above these ears According to Figures 5 to 7, this tensioning device can be constituted by a socket 24 passed over the ears 22.

   This sleeve could have been stretched by displacement over the ears 22 in one direction, and be loosened in 1-'autre direction, the bandage serving as a support stop.

   In the embodiment according to FIGS. 5 to 7, there extends, in addition, between the ears 22 of the bandage 13 a wedge-shaped piece 25 which releases ;, when the tension is applied, the space between the oreil-
 EMI3.2
 the 22 and spreads, when loosening; <the ears of one another.

   Wedge 26 of the pair of wedges 26,26a may serve as a tensioning wedge, and wedge 26a as a release wedge. The two wedges are guided in the lugs of the ears 22 of the bandage and can be prevented from losing them by transverse studs 27, 27ao The lower edge
 EMI3.3
 re 28 of the tension bush 24 serves as a stop for the corner 26, and the upper edge 29 as a stop for the corner 26a.

   In the execution according to Figures 6 and 7, the pair of tension wedges are grouped together and pass through the middle of the ears 22 of the bandage. The tension socket 24 is brought into the tension position or the loosened position, in a manner analogous to the pair of spaced wedges according to figure 5, by the corresponding surfaces, applied differently, from the wedge.
 EMI3.4
 double 30, 31a The guide wedge 25a is, in this form of extension, inserted into the gap of the tension sleeve so as to fill the latter. The transverse pins 32 maintain at the same time, in this embodiment, the two corners 30 and 31 assembled and limit their stroke.

   In this embodiment, the wedge 30, for example, bears against the surfaces 33 of the slots in the tension sleeve and over-
 EMI3.5
 faces 34 of the slits of the ears 22 of the bandage. The wedge stopper 31 is imprinted by the tension sleeve 24 and the lugs 22 of the tire, in reverse shape and order. The pair of wedges 30, 31 are guided in the corresponding slots 22 of the lugs 22 of the bandage, the tension socket 24 and the middle wedge 25a so that, during the tensioning operation, the stops of support of the opposite corner are released again, and that, during the loosening operation, it is the support stops which operate in the opposite direction.

   The installation of the seal is operated by placing, on the upper edge of the lock 13, etc ..., which rests freely on the lock

   The lugs 19 of the wedge-shaped pieces then rest on the upper edge of the tire 13. When com-
 EMI3.8

 EMI3.9
 less friction on the wedge surfaces 21, the s, erure and, therefore, the wedge-shaped pieces, are therefore driven further towards the lower pond, and this until the lower edge of the tire 13 'has reached the lugs 20 of the wedge-shaped pieces 12.

   The difference of the friction surfaces 21 with respect to the friction surfaces on the inner throat 10 determines the value of the pressure collected in the first phase,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 until the downward sliding or telescopic folding movement of 19 stanchion begins. The loosening, or withdrawal, of the strut is done by pushing back in the opposite direction of a system of transverse wedges 26 and 30, 31.

   To obtain a certain safe operation of the wedge-shaped pieces 12, it is advantageous to give the angle between the faces of two wings of the lower strut of the application surfaces 39 not only a value a; = 90, but a value equal to that of the angle b, that is to say 92 and more. In the case of rolled cross sections, this angle is obtained by the only obliquity required for rolling.

   On the other hand, one can still obtain the reliability of the effect of the wedge-shaped pieces 12, or obtain it in addition, not only by easily making the slices 2 of the corner corners slippery, but by further increasing the ratio of the coefficients friction using rollers. The rollers 36 can then be applied against the bandage 13 by being put in place individually, just as they can be brought together by rods, etc ..., 37 and made to roll in recesses 38 made in the edges of the parts 12 wedge-shaped. The shape of the rollers 36 may be conical, cylindrical, domed or the like.

   It goes without saying that the invention is not limited to the embodiment described in detail above and shown in the drawings and that it is possible, on the contrary, to conceive of numerous variants with respect to this embodiment without departing from its principle.
