<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
REVENDICATIONS.

TOOL SHARPENING MACHINE.
The present invention relates to a machine for sharpening cutting tools, such as lathe tools, cutters, etc.
In accordance with this invention, the machine comprises in main order the following two elements: a) a grinding wheel head capable of pivoting about a horizontal axis mounted on a support, itself capable of rotating around a vertical axis which intersects the first, and be moved along that axis; and b), a tool-carrying carriage movable in height and able to move parallel to the aforementioned horizontal axis and in the direction thereof, the movements along and around the vertical axis being controlled by hand or by hand. by means of a motor mounted in the frame of the machine.
The attached drawing shows an embodiment of the object of the invention. The three figures which it comprises represent respectively: FIG. 1 a side view, partially in section; figure 2 the machine seen from the front, and figure 3 the machine seen from above.
The machine shown has three main parts, namely: a fixed part 1, constituting the frame in the form of a parallelepiped, and two movable parts resting on this frame. The hook of these mobile parts carries the sharpening tool, and comprises a support in the form of a square, one branch of which is vertical and moves in a guide arranged inside the frame, while the horizontal branch is on the top of the frame.
The height displacement of the support ?. is controlled by a handwheel 7.
On the horizontal branch of the square, is fixed the tool-holder carriage 1 which can be moved along this branch by means of the hand wheel. This carriage 5 carries a vice 2 used to clamp the sharpening tool 10 therein. The vice 2 is provided with a semi-cylindrical base resting against a de-

cut corresponds ± of the carriage, which makes it possible to rotate the tool at will around an axis which is transverse to it and which is also parallel to the movement of the carriage 5.
The second movable part comprises the grinding head .1 carrying the electric motor 12 and the grinding wheel 11 driven by a belt from the motor. The grinding wheel 11 is fixed on an extendable mandrel which facilitates the change of grinding wheel and also ensures very good fixation.
The chuck is tightened and loosened by means of the handle 14.
The motor, chuck and transmission are covered with a housing provided with ventilation slots. The grinding head is arranged in such a way that it can pivot about a vertical axis v-vet mounted on the vertical branch of a square 12. The horizontal branch of the square side 12 is attached to the upper end. of a part which can slide in a groove of the frame; this part can also pivot around a vertical axis xx. The movements of this sliding and pivoting part and, therefore, the corresponding movements of the grinding head, are controlled either by the operation of a hand wheel 8, or by a motor placed in the frame.
An electromagnetic clutch device acting on a transmission mechanism interposed between the flywheel $ and the aforesaid motor, on the one hand, and the sliding and pivoting part on the other hand, makes it possible to move the latter in height, or to rotate it any angle. These movements can be limited by adjustable stops. To rotate the grinding head 3. around the axis vv, an endless screw controlled by the handwheel 13 has been provided. The maximum angular displacement of the grinding head 2 comprises 150, ie 30 to the left with respect to the xx axis (figure 2), and 120 to the right. The position of the head depends on the cutting angle of the tool to be sharpened.
16 and 17 are segments graduated in degrees making it possible to record the angular displacements of the grinding head around the axes iL-iL and x-x respectively.
