 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

   REVENDICATIONS.

   1.- Fermeture formant l'un des organes d'une fermeture réglable dont l'autre organe est constitué par un curseur, exécutée de manière à pouvoir être fixée à l'une de deux parties qui doivent être attachées de ma- mère ajustable l'une à l'autre, la dite fermeture étant constituée par une bande en forme de ruban en une matière flexible sur laquelle est fixée le cur- seur au moyen d'un élément de section transversale généralement elliptique dont les extrémités ouvertes s'étendent en-dessous des bords de la fermeture en même temps qu'un crampon servant à bloquer le curseur à un point quelconque de la fermeture,cette dernière étant munie d'une série d'arrêts et le curseur est exécuté de manière   à   effectuer le blocage entre des arrêts adjacents;

   IMPROVEMENTS TO ADJUSTABLE CLOSING DEVICES.

The present invention relates to devices for attaching one to the other in an adjustable manner :, two objects or two parts of the same object. Similar devices or of a similar function have been the subject of previous patents and one of them relates to a plastic closure which can be attached directly to the object envisaged by means of a line of stitching points. 'extending longitudinally in the center.

In another embodiment of such devices, the closure is formed by several stops, spaced at regular intervals and extending along the closure; said stops being clamped to the underside of the closure. In this type of device, it is necessary for the width of the tape carrying the stops to be greater than the closure itself so that the latter can be fixed to the object envisaged by stitching made on the outside. and extending parallel to the closure.

When using this embodiment for garments or the like, it is generally necessary to provide a slit therein and to place therein the part of the tape which passes the closure again.
The present invention eliminates the need for a tape or band wider than the closure itself by providing a closure which, although provided with metal stops or their equivalent, can however be attached directly to the intended object by a central and longitudinal line of stitches or other means arranged similarly in the space entirely free of the material forming the stops.

According to the invention, the closure consists of a strip in the form of a ribbon and of a flexible material., Provided with a series of stops comprising elements arranged transversely on the strip and provided with studs which engage in, said band, the stops being spaced so as to leave a free space which extends longitudinally and through the band to allow the necessary stitches to be made therein or to provide other fixing means such as staples or the like for attaching the closure to the intended object.

Several embodiments, given by way of non-limiting example, are shown in the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a preferred embodiment, showing the closure attached to the contemplated object with the slider in place.

Fig. 2 is a plan view of the closure itself.

Fig. 3 shows, on a larger scale, a longitudinal section taken along line 3-3 of fig. 1.

Fig. 4 shows, on a larger scale, a section taken along line 4-4 of FIG. 2.

Fig. 5 is, on a larger scale, a section taken along line 5-5 of FIG. 3.

Fig. 6 represents a variant of the invention.

Fig. 7 shows, on a larger scale, a section taken along line 7-7 of FIG. 6.

Fig. 8 is a plan view of another variant.

Fig. 9 is, on a larger scale, a section taken along line 9-9 of FIG. 8.

The improved closure consists of a tape or band 10 of a suitable material such as, for example, a tightly woven fabric which, as required, can be impregnated with a plastic or semi-plastic material, for example, celluloid. or any of a number of celluloid-like plastics. Whichever way it is formed, the closure should be such that it is possible to sew the material together with sufficient body and rigidity to allow the stops to be gripped to the web. If the fabric itself is rigid enough it is not necessary to impregnate it.

The strip 10 is provided with a series of stops 11, each of them consisting of two complementary parts or elements 11a, 11b, said elements adopt the form of U-shaped clips which are clamped by their folded edges. 12 in the opposite edges of the strip. The material for the stops is metal and preferably brass since this has the necessary strength and rigidity while being substantially stainless.

However, it is also possible to use any suitable metallic or non-metallic material commonly used for slide closures. In the embodiment of FIGS. 1 to 5, the stop elements 11a, 11b, are very close to each other as shown in Figs. 2 and 4, such an execution improving the strength and appearance of the closure
On the other hand, the clips 11a, llbpeuvent be more spaced from each other as shown in Figs. 6 and 7 and this execution gives greater flexibility when closing.

In any event, it should be noted that the length of the elements 11a, 11b together forming one and the same stopper, is such that they meet almost in the center, thus providing a free space 14 which extends longitudinally across. the band to allow the stitching points 15 which fix the band to the piece 16. Instead of the stitching points it is also possible to use other fixing means, such as, for example, staples or similar not shown.

The improved closure is used in conjunction with a slider 20 of the type described in the earlier patent mentioned above and comprises a body 21 of uninterrupted elliptical cross section, the free ends 22 of which extend below the closure, as shown in FIG. 5 thus maintaining the cursor on said closure. The body 21 is provided with vertical ears 23 which support the spike or the locking element generally identified by 24. The element 24 comprises a tab 24a and

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

a stopper 24b and is further provided with pivots 25 which engage in the openings of the ears 23.

The ears 23 are formed from the body 21 and, in this way, the body has an opening, marked by 26, allowing the stopper 24jb to come into contact with the stops and can be blocked between neighboring stops. 11. Body 21 can end with a loop
27 by which the cursor is fixed to a member, not shown.

Figures 8 and 9 show another variant of the improved closure, consisting of strips of fabric 30, 31 which are fixed by means of this stitch 32 between the longitudinal edges. The bands 30,
31, thus attached to each other approximately at their center, have opposite outer edges on each of which is disposed a determined row of staples 33, said staples being clamped to the fabric, which constitutes an execution well known in the slide fastener industry. In this way the aligned staples form a series of stops, identical to those of the execution examples described above and said stops leave a longitudinal free space to allow the stitches 35 which fix the closure to the piece. 36.

The closure thus executed is provided with the cursor 20, just as in the examples of execution described above. If necessary, the staples forming the stops 11 can also be punched directly onto the tape or onto the tape 10.

From the embodiments described above it emerges that in this way the closure 10 can be attached directly by sewing to the parts which are to be assembled to each other, as long as there is a free and uninterrupted space for the closure. 'sewing needle. Where this space is obstructed by the stops or parts thereof, it is difficult if not impossible to prevent the needle from breaking due to its accidental contact with said stops.

It is understood that various modifications are possible without departing from the scope of the invention. For example, the opposing stops Il, 11b should not be aligned as shown, on the contrary, they can be offset with respect to each other by also appropriately modifying the shape of the stopper 24b, cooperating with the slider. .
