<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

PROCESS FOR INCORPORATING PIGMENTS OR OTHER COLORING MATERIALS SUCH AS METAL POWDERS IN A SOLVENT OR A SUSPENSION AGENT.
The present invention relates to a process for dispersing pigments or other coloring matters in the solvent or the suspending agent necessary to obtain the paints without the dust, dirt and other foreign bodies being able. penetrate and without any disturbance due to odors, alterations of colors and loss of materials.
According to the invention this problem is solved by the fact that the coloring matters are packaged in a closed container made of a material soluble in the solvent or in the suspending agent, and that they are placed with this packaging in the container. liquid agent which is used to obtain a solution or a suspension of the dye.
The container containing the coloring matter dissolves in the liquid and its contents thereby reach the liquid agent constituting the paint. The colourant remains in the closed container until it dissolves, becoming a component of the dye-solvent mixture or dispersing therein as a neutral substance.
In accordance with this process, the introduction of the coloring matters into the solvent or the suspending agent is carried out without the production of dust, away from foreign bodies of any kind and in the simplest manner. The process facilitates the dosing of the coloring matter, does not require any equipment and can be carried out in any room. Furthermore, the method according to the invention can be carried out by unskilled workers.
When carrying out the process of the invention, for example for the preparation of a liquid aluminum paint, the procedure is as follows:
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The aluminum powder is in a container made of a material soluble in varnish. This container is prepared in the form of a bag or cone with welded edges and is produced by molding, injection or extrusion.
These receptacles with their contents are placed in the varnish used in the manufacture of the aluminum paint, for example in a varnish tank equipped with a stirrer, and they are dissolved there by the solvent contained in the varnish. Where appropriate, these containers can be immersed in the liquid dissolving the varnish in which the substance constituting the varnish is incorporated subsequently.
When the container dissolves, its content, ie the aluminum powder, enters the liquid varnish or the solvent. This results in a ready-to-use aluminum bronze paint which can be used immediately.
Another embodiment of the invention consists in using the method below for incorporating without producing dust the metal powders, for example bronze powder or aluminum powder, into liquid agents with which the powder is produced. metallic powder reacts chemically.
Example 1.
In the manufacture of so-called gas-occluded concrete, the alumium powder acting as a propellant is enclosed in a water-soluble bag and immersed in a mixture which consists of water, lime and a product based on ash in the form of a fine powder, for example Thomas slag or powdered shale. As the bag dissolves, the aluminum powder is released and can react as desired with the water in the mixture to give off hydrogen. The dissolved substance forming the sac behaves during this process like a neutral body and does not participate in the reaction.
Example II.
In order to incorporate metallic powders, in particular bronze powder or aluminum powder, without producing dust, into an aqueous solution of glue of the type used for printing in the drapery and wallpaper industry, the powder is packaged in a water soluble bag and submerged with it in the glue solution. The bag dissolves and the powder reaches the glue solution with which it can be spread at the point of use, for example with the help of a roller. In this case too, the dissolved substance in the sac behaves in a neutral manner without reacting with the bodies present.
The invention enables the incorporation of metallic powder into the liquid solvent in the same manner. This invention is also applicable to the incorporation of pigments in the pasty state or other coloring matters in the pasty state in solvents or suspending agents, as well as to the incorporation of metallic paste such as. than bronze or aluminum pastes in liquid agents with which the paste enters into a chemical reaction.
