ROBINET A GAZ.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

GAS TAP.
The present invention relates to gas taps for cookers, stoves and other appliances to which gas is admitted by a nut valve operated by means of a relatively long control rod which connects the nut to the nut. valve lever and can not only turn to move the nut angularly, but also slide lengthwise against the action of a return spring, to disengage from the stops determining the various angular adjustment positions of the wheel. - binet
In valves of known construction, the sliding control rod is guided longitudinally in a tubular extension of the nut, so that any force exerted against the lever of the valve,
as often happens when you want to turn the tap before having completely disengaged the rod from the stops, is transmitted to the nut which jams and ends up getting stuck in the plug.
According to the invention, this drawback is avoided by making the valve nut independent of its control rod, except in rotation.
To this end, in a gas valve according to the invention, the control rod is guided longitudinally in a part integral with the valve plug and attacks the nut by a universal sliding joint, which does not transmit to the nut. than the angular movements of the rod.
In a preferred embodiment, the control rod is guided in a plate nozzle attached to the valve plug, and its end carries a drive pin loosely engaged in notches in the nut, beyond. a bridle which can be integral with the rod or, more advantageously, with a fur wedged on the rod, and one side of which engages with the stops of the plate of the nozzle and the other forms a seat for the return spring, interposed between this flange and the nut.
This arrangement makes it possible to place around the control rod a return spring of large diameter and great length, which
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
offers the advantage of varying very little power by compressing against the nut when sliding the control rod to release the locking notches This avoids excessive pressure on the nut, which would require to take it off the bushel and rotate a considerable force in the latter, as is the case with known taps having a small return spring placed at the end of the control rod.
The accompanying drawing shows the preferred embodiment of the invention, in longitudinal section in the position of release of the stops.
1 designates the gas valve nut which can rotate in the valve 2 under the action of its control rod 3.
According to the invention, the rod 3 attacks the nut 1, by a sliding universal joint, produced simply by the engagement of a drive pin 4 of the rod 3 in notches 5 of a housing. 6. larger in diameter than the stem, provided in the nut 1.
The rod 3 is guided, with the interposition of a fur 7 wedged on it by a pin 8 and terminated by a flange 9. in a nozzle 10 suitably fixed on the plug 2 by a plate 11 which is provided with stop notches 12 cooperating with dogs 13 of the flange 9. Between the latter and the nut 1, in a deep annular recess 14 of the latter, is housed a return spring 15 of large diameter and relatively long, the power of which does not vary not appreciably over the short stroke of the rod 3. necessary to release the dogs 13 from the stops 12 and limited by the pin 8 abutting against the nozzle 10.
Preferably, the stops 12 and the dogs 13 are more than two in number and distributed circumferentially so as to provide the flange 9 with stable support on the plate 11. On the other hand, the lubrication grooves 16 and 17 are advantageously provided in the fur 7 and the nut 1, respectively.
It is clear that, if by operating the valve, a cantilevered force is exerted on the control rod 3, which would tend to jam the nut 1 if the latter supported the control rod known in the old constructions, only the angular movement printed on the rod to rotate the nut is transmitted to it by the universal joint 4. 5 while the force is supported by the nozzle 10 and the timber 2.
Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiment described and shown by way of example and one would not depart from its scope by making modifications thereto.
