Description

1[deg.]) un dispositif ou artifice de mise de feu actionné par exemple par inertie ou par tout autre moyen, ce dispositif, ayant pour rôle d'enflammer une première charge de poudre noire de faible importance (par exemple quelques grammes), étant généralement contenu dans une pièce tubulaire dite tube porte-amorce;

 <EMI ID=1.1>

être de tout type,connu ou non.

 <EMI ID=3.1>

1[deg.]) mise en place du système d'amorçage à l'intérieur de la douille;

2[deg.]) mise en place de la charge propulsive et éventuellement sertissage de l'obus;

3[deg.]) mise en place du tube porte-amorce.

 <EMI ID=4.1>

  STARTING SYSTEMS FOR ARTILLERY BUSHES.

The present invention relates to artillery cartridge priming systems. [

It is known that the initiation systems intended to ignite the propellant charge essentially comprise:

1 [deg.]) A firing device or device actuated for example by inertia or by any other means, this device having the role of igniting a first charge of small black powder (for example a few grams), being generally contained in a tubular part called the primer holder tube;

2 [deg.]) A priming system ignited by the first charge of black powder; this initiation system serves to ignite the propellant charge proper contained in the socket, and therefore plays a relay role; it essentially comprises a 'charge of black powder greater than that contained in the firing device, this charge being able to reach

 <EMI ID = 1.1>

be of any type, known or not.

. The conventional primings currently carried out generally consist of a metal tube of relatively small diameter and relatively large length compared to the length of the sleeve; this tube extends the firing device and contains the charge of black powder; the cylindrical tubular wall of this priming system comprises vents for the passage of the gases igniting the propellant charge, the fundamental idea of this embodiment being that the black powder charge 'shines faster than the propellant charge, the adoption of the aforementioned form makes it possible to ignite the propellant charge in a very brief instant, over almost all of its height.

However, experience has shown that the priming devices thus produced had several drawbacks and in particular the following:

During ignition of both the priming system and the propellant charge, the tubular wall of the priming system may sometimes

splits or breaks, and pieces remain after the firing of the shot, inside the barrel, resulting in firing incidents.

In addition, it appears that in some cases the rate of ignition of the black powder turns out to be slower than that of the propellant charge itself, so that the charge was actually ignited, in these cases only via the first vents located near the firing device, the other vents then playing no useful role. This results in irregularities in the firing times.

Finally, the known priming systems are produced in such a way that their placement inside the socket requires the setting

in place of the primer carrier tube beforehand, which makes the ammunition, despite all the safety devices taken, dangerous to transport and handle.

These drawbacks are avoided by the embodiments which are the subject of the present patent.

According to the invention, the charge of black powder from the priming device, instead of being placed in a long and narrow tube, is collected in a cylindrical or annular shape, compact, of low height, along the axis. of the socket.

According to another characteristic of the invention, a cavity

is provided between the primer carrier tube and the filler of the priming system,

and the shape of this cavity is studied so as to allow the ignition of this initiator charge over a large area, from the flame created by the initiator tube.

According to another characteristic of the invention, the latter provides, in a variant, an independent mechanical fixing of the priming device on the plate of the sleeve, this making it possible to place the primer holder tube only after transport and handling. , and practically just a little before the use of the ammunition, or at least after complete preparation of the ammunition.

Other characteristics of the invention will become apparent during

of the following description of two embodiments given by way of illustrative and non-limiting example.

FIG. 1 represents a first embodiment; it shows a meridian cut. We see at 1 the socket plate comprising, at its center, an orifice receiving the primer holder tube 2, which is fixed to it for example by screwing or by forcing. The parts of this primer-carrying tube, of any known type, are contained inside a cylindrical tube.
20, fixed, as indicated, on the plate 1. This tube has, at its front end, an opening 3, closed for example by a tin disc.

The drawn primer tubes are of a conventional type. it will be noted, moreover, that it is possible to use, instead of primer-holder tubes) of the plugs.

In accordance with the invention, the priming system consists of a charge of black powder produced in the form of a torus-shaped wafer, the section of which is shown at 4 and 5.

This wafer is pressed between two metal plates 6 and 7, by means of a felt wedge 8 and cardboard wedges 9 and.

The black powder cake is protected towards the outside by an annular strip 11, which can advantageously be constituted by a tin-lead alloy playing the role of de-coppering agent.

The plates 6 and 7 are clamped by the flanges 13 and 14 of a tube 12 surrounding the tube 20. This tube 12 is itself fixed to the outside of the tube 20 by forcing, screwing or any other means; it comprises, as illustrated, at the level of the load 4-5, a certain number of vents 15, for example four in number.

These vents, in connection with the opening 3, have the role of allowing the flames coming from the charge contained in the fuse holder tube, to ignite the internal wall of the wafer 4-5.

According to the invention and in order to allow this charge 4-5 to ignite simultaneously over its entire height, the internal diameter of the wafer is chosen, as indicated, greater than the external diameter of the tube 12, hence the existence of 'an annular vacuum allowing the flames passing through the side vents 15, to ignite the charge 4-5 over its entire height.

The annular vacuum can be replaced by longit udinales grooves made in the tube 12 in line with the vents 15.

The ignition of the propellant charge proper takes place through the strip 11 playing the role of de-captivating.

Experience has shown that the flame thus obtained produced an energetic, rapid and regular ignition of the propellant charge proper, resulting in good regularity of firing, absence of dispersion, and, in the case of simultaneous firing of several guns (for example guns under turret), absence of any harmful reaction from the eddy caused by a shell on the trajectory of another shell.

FIG. 2 shows an alternative embodiment making it possible in particular to fix the priming system directly on the plate of the socket without using, for this purpose, the primer holder tube. It also represents a meridian cut. We find in 1 the plate of the socket with, in its center, an annular orifice serving in particular to accommodate the primer holder tube 2.

The initiation charge 21 is here produced in the form of a pellet.

 <EMI ID = 2.1>

 <EMI ID = 3.1>

directly on the socket plate thanks to its tubular extension
25 by staff 26.

The bottom of the cup is closed by a disc 23, for example made of tin-lead alloy.

The cup naturally comprises a lower orifice 27 forming a borehole, inside which is placed the primer holder tube which is fixed to it by the bearing surface 28.

It can be seen that this arrangement does not require the prior fixing of the primer-holder tube or plug, on the socket plate; on the contrary, the priming system serving as a support for the priming tube must be placed before the latter, which can be placed subsequently at any convenient time.

The cake 21 rests on the bottom of the cup by means of an annular washer 30, advantageously made of felt. Here also, a free space 31 has been provided between the black powder cake and the bottom of the cup, allowing simultaneous ignition, over its entire surface, of the bottom of the cake by the flame of the primer holder tube.

The operation of this variant is immediately understood from the above explanations.

It can be seen that in this case the manufacture of the ammunition comprises the following operations:

1 [deg.]) Installation of the priming system inside the socket;

2 [deg.]) Installation of the propellant charge and possibly crimping of the shell;

3 [deg.]) Installation of the primer holder tube.

 <EMI ID = 4.1>

vention, without departing from the scope of this patent; in particular, in the embodiment of FIG. 2, it is possible to arrange for the primer holder tube to be fixed not by the bearing 28 but by a bearing 29 directly on the plate of the socket.

The systems described offer the great advantage of allowing their immediate application to existing sockets.
