APPAREIL POUR L'EMMAGASINAGE ET L:EXAMEN D'UNE COLLECTION DE
PHOTOGRAPHIES.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

APPARATUS FOR STORAGE AND L: EXAMINATION OF A COLLECTION OF
PHOTOGRAPHS.
The present invention relates to an apparatus for the storage and examination of a collection of photographs.
We know that photographs can be collected by being pasted or fixed in some other way in an album. The examination of these photographs is then done by turning the pages of the album; this is quite easy when the said photographs are of an ordinary format. It is no longer the same when they are in small formats, it is then necessary, to see the details, to use a magnifying glass such as for example a child account. In addition, the albums often have fairly large dimensions; especially if they have to contain a large number of photographs, they quickly become bulky and difficult to consult.
The present invention, which aims to eliminate these drawbacks, consists of an apparatus in which the photographs are assembled in a strip, the two ends of which are fixed to two rotating drums housed in a closed box and passing through a window which can be fitted. of a magnifying means.
According to one characteristic of the invention, the two drums are removably mounted in the body of a box closed by a removable cover in which a window is provided; the two drums are each provided with an actuation button at each end of their axis coming out of the box and can turn in one direction or the other. In addition, the removable cover. can adapt indifferently on any body containing, a series of photographs assembled in a band attached to the two winding drums.
Another peculiarity lies in that, on either side of the window, there are two sleepers over which the strip of
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
assembled photographs. In addition, the magnifying device, preferably constituted by a removable thread counter, is placed in a slide, the two edges of which are placed laterally. the window.
The present invention will be more readily understood by reference to the following description of the accompanying drawings which show, by way of example only, one embodiment of the invention.
The figure is a schematic perspective view with partial section of an apparatus according to the invention.
As shown in the figure, the apparatus consists of a closed box. In the embodiment shown, this box comprises a body 2 whose side faces are provided with notches 2a, 2b in which are placed the ends of the support shafts of the removable drums 3a, 3b which can be rotated by actuating in one way or the other buttons 4a and 4b. The body 2 is closed by the cover 5 having a window 6 through which pass the photographs assembled in a strip shown at 7, in dotted lines; this band is fixed by one end to the drum 3a and by the other end to the drum 3b.
On either side of: the window 6, the crosspieces 6a, 6b are located, that is to say that these crosspieces which serve as guidance and support for the strip of photographs; are formed by the separation existing between the window and the holes 8a and 8b in which the strip 7 passes. The fixing of the cover 5 on the body 2 keeps the shafts carrying the drums 3a and 3b in place. If the latter are rotated in the winding direction by actuating, as the case may be, one or the other of the corresponding buttons 4a and 4b, all the photos can be scrolled successively in window 6. The equipment of the apparatus is completed by mounting a magnifying means for the examination of the photographs.
In the embodiment described, this means consists of a removable thread counter 9 which is housed in the slide 10 closed by two curved edges located laterally to the window 6. The base of the thread counter 9 can be held in place by a clamp or caliper not shown.
Among the advantages presented by a device similar to that which has just been described, it should first be noted that it allows to enclose in a box of fairly small dimensions, a large number of photographs, which can reach a thousand; these images can be scrolled one by one in assembly order. It is easy to use the device even in a seated position; the box is easily carried in front of the eyes. In addition, the part of the box forming the lid is removable and can fit indiscriminately on any body containing a strip of photographs assembled and mounted on two drums .
There is also a lamp II in the bottom of the box; the apparatus described can then serve as a viewer for examining transparent films passing in front of the window.
In conclusion, it should be noted that the apparatus also offers advantages especially for the examination of photographs of reduced format, since it allows to save the magnification thanks to the magnifying device or thread count.
