PERFECTIONNEMENTS APPORTES AUX MACHINES POUR REPANDRE DU FUMIER ET D'
AUTRES MATIERES.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

IMPROVEMENTS TO MACHINES FOR SPREADING MANURE AND
OTHER MATERIALS.
The invention relates to machines for spreading manure and other material on the ground and it relates, more particularly, to machines of this type which comprise a conveyor, animated by an intermittent movement, to convey the manure or the soil. material at one end of the machine where it is distributed over the floor by a distributor mounted on the machine, such as a rotary mechanism with fingers and / or vanes.
For this type of machine, it is usual to move the transporter in an intermittent movement by a suitable drive mechanism actuated by the forward movement of the carrying wheels of the machine or by a tractor shaft, forming an energy take-off or else. by other motor means, the flow being regulated by varying the length of the stroke of the driving mechanism.
It has already been proposed, for machines of the type specified above, to vary the flow of the conveyor by driving the latter by an eccentric having a variable stroke, but it has been found that in practice this adjustment must be made when the conveyor is working, which is a very difficult operation when the machine is fully loaded.
According to the invention, the machine is made to include adjustable means capable of increasing and reducing the speed of advance of the material by the conveyor without the latter itself having to be moved relative to the frame of the machine during the adjustment operation.
In a more specific form of the invention, the gen-
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
re in question comprises a mechanism suitable for driving the conveyor in an intermittent movement, said mechanism comprising a driven member mounted on a pivot so as to be able to oscillate and suitable for transmitting an intermittent movement to a driven member connected to the conveyor so as to be able to actuate the latter, a movable stop relative to the frame of the machine and suitable, depending on the position it occupies with respect to said frame, to adjust the amplitude of each oscillation, for the transmission of the movement, of said oscillating member, a member trainer connected with a dead travel to said oscillating member and means controlled by the operator and own,
while the movement of said oscillating member continues, in moving said stop relative to the pivot of said oscillating member to vary the stroke of this member and thus to modify the stroke of this member by varying the speed of the conveyor without having to move the conveyor itself during this adjustment operation.
For example, the arrangement may be such that the oscillating member or, preferably, a part of this member is suitable for coming into active contact with said stop during the return stroke. Or when the oscillating member is empty, to so that no payload is transmitted to the stopper during the active stroke of the oscillating member and that the wear of these particular members is reduced to a minimum.
Advantageously, the stopper is mounted so as to be able to slide transversely with respect to the direction of pivoting of the oscillating member and the stopper can be constituted by a pawl or click actuated by a spring.
A subsidiary aim of the invention is to provide means for being able to adjust the flow of the conveyor, these adjustment means being able to be controlled from a certain point away from the mechanism driving the conveyor, for example from the seat of the tractor in the event that the machine is operated by a tractor.
For the latter purpose and in accordance with a subsidiary characteristic of the invention, recourse is had to a mechanism controlled by hand and remotely from a point away from said mechanism driving the conveyor and clean, while the movement of the conveyor continues, to act. on the mechanism to vary the amplitude of the forward movement of the conveyor
The accompanying drawings show, by way of example, one embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 1 shows, in elevation, an embodiment of a machine for spreading manure on the ground and established according to the invention.
Fig. 2 shows, on a larger scale and similarly (sectional parts and parts broken away), part of the machine of fig.l.
Fig 3 shows, similarly, another part of this machine.
Figs. 4 and 5 show, in plan, the parts of the machine indicated respectively in figs. 2 and 3.
Fig. 6 shows, on a larger scale and in elevation (sectional parts and parts broken away), another part of the same machine.
In the drawings, the invention is shown as being applied to a machine for spreading manure similar to that described in Belgian patent no.523,327 with the same name and under the title: "Improvements made to machines for spreading fertilizer and other materials ", this machine comprising a body 10 with a drawbar or a drawbar 11 at its front end to ensure its connection with a propellant tractor, said body 10 being suitable for containing manure or any other material and comprising, at its lower part, an endless conveyor, shown in diagram
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
matically in 12,
to convey manure or other material in a known manner to the rear end of the body 10 where it is spread by the distributor mechanism generally designated 13.
The distributor mechanism and the transporter are driven by a longitudinal shaft 14, the front end of which can be connected to the shaft of the tractor forming the power take-off, this shaft 14 being connected by a transmission, generally designated by 15, to one or more transverse shafts, a shaft or part of a shaft, when a shaft extending across the entire width of the machine is involved, projecting on one side of the machine where it causes a suitable transmission which activates the distributor mechanism 13.
Another cross shaft or part of a shaft, when using a shaft extending the full width of the machine, protrudes on the opposite side of the machine where it carries an eccentric 16 which actuates a connecting rod 17 connected by an elongated hole 18, providing a dead travel, to an oscillating member constituted by a lever 19 with two arms, an arm of this lever comprising a transverse lug housed in the elongated hole 18.
The lever 19 is freely articulated, at an intermediate point, to a transverse shaft 20 carrying a ratchet wheel 21, the shaft 20 carrying, in the known manner, a roller or one or more chain sprockets to drive the endless conveyor 12. An arm 22 of the lever 19 carries a pawl 23, biased by a spring and arranged such that, when the lever 19 rotates in the direct direction with respect to FIG. 2 under the control of the connecting rod 17, the ratchet wheel 21 rotates in the same direction and transmits an intermittent forward movement to the conveyor, the reverse movement of the ratchet wheel being prevented by the pawl 24 biased by a spring .
The second arm 25 of the lever 19 is articulated by a connecting rod 26 to a plunger 27 which can slide longitudinally relative to the machine in a housing 28, the plunger comprising a shoulder 29 which is oriented towards the front of the machine and which cooperates with a stop formed by a spout 30 constituting the end of an arm of an angled lever 31, acting as a trigger, this end passing through an opening made in the wall of the housing 28 of the plunger.
The elbow lever 31 is articulated at 32 to a support mounted on one end of a slide 33 which can slide in a guide 34 in a direction parallel to that in which the plunger 27 slides, the slide 33 being connected by the connecting rod 35 to an arm 36 (fig. 5) mounted on one end of a tubular shaft 37 which extends transversely with respect to the machine near the front end thereof, the opposite end of this tubular shaft being reléeau control lever 38 which is oriented towards the front of the machine so as to be easily accessible by the driver when he occupies his place on the seat of the propellant tractor.
The bent lever 31 is maintained in contact, by a spring 39, with the shoulder 29 of the plunger, this spring being established between the lever 31 and a fulcrum forming part of the slide 33 but this lever can rotate around its pivot. 32 to move away from the shoulder 29 using a rod 40, one end of which is connected to the elbow lever 31 while its other end is made integral with an arm 42 (figs. 3 and 5).
The arm 42 is mounted on one end of a transverse rod 43 housed in the aforesaid tubular shaft 37 so as to be able to rotate freely in this shaft 37.
When one has recourse to the device described above, one obtains, during the active travel of the oscillating lever 19 with two arms, that this one turns in the direct direction, of which question above, by the traction exerted
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
on this lever by the connecting rod 17,1 'the shoulder 29 of the plunger 27 moving away from the elbow lever 31 during this movement. The beak 30 of said lever 31 is therefore not subjected to any load during the active stroke of the oscillating lever.
For the return or empty stroke of the connecting rod 17, during which the latter moves to the left of FIG. 2, the lever 19 rotates in the opposite direction around its pivot 20 by the pressure of the spring 49, this angular displacement being limited by the fact that the shoulder 29 of the plunger 27 comes into contact with the spout 30 of the angled lever 31.
If it is desired to vary the flow of manure or any other material supplied by the conveyor by reducing this flow, for example, the handle 46 of the control lever 38 is pushed back to move the angled lever 31 away from the shoulder. 29 of the plunger 27 and the lever 38 is then moved in the direct direction with respect to the, fig. 1 so as to advance the lever 31 to the left of FIG. 2, i.e. towards the swing lever 19.
We then stop acting on the lever 46, so that the rod 47 engages again in one of the notches of the toothed sector 48 by the effect of a spring (not shown) to lock the lever 38 as well as the slide 33, carrying the angled lever 31, to. his new position.
The angled lever 31, when the plunger 27 occupies the position shown, is in contact by its beak 30 with the face of the plunger adjacent to the shoulder 29 and it can come to occupy this position for the dead-stroke connection, designated by 50 ( fig. 2), provided between the lever 31 and the rod 40.
While the oscillating lever 19 is making its active stroke, at the same time as the plunger 27 moves to the left of FIG. 2, its shoulder 29 exceeds the nose 30 of the lever 31 and the latter can resume its active position, as shown, by the effect of the spring 39 and when the oscillating lever 19 makes its next empty stroke, the shoulder 29 of the plunger comes into contact with the lever 31 more quickly than before, so that the next active stroke has a smaller amplitude and the forward movement of the conveyor has decreased.
If, on the other hand, it is desired to increase the speed at which the manure or material is delivered, the control lever 38 is rotated in the indirect direction so as to move the elbow lever 31 in a direction for which it is moved away from the oscillating lever 19, which makes it possible to increase the amplitude of the active travel of this lever.
This modification of the amplitude of the oscillation of the lever 19 is made possible by the dead-travel connection which exists between this lever and the connecting rod 17.
It follows from the foregoing that the device makes it possible to adjust the speed of advance of the material without having to move the conveyor in any way during this adjustment operation. In other words, no significant effort must be exerted by the operator to obtain the aforementioned modification, so that the operation of the device is simple and easy.
Instead of applying the invention, as is preferred, to a machine by which manure or other material is distributed at the rear of the machine, it can be applied to a machine which delivers material at the front. .
