<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

COPSEUSE OR COCONNEUSE.
The present invention relates to copseuses or cocoons and its object is an improved clutch for the individual control of the spindles. This male and female cone clutch is essentially characterized in that the clutch position of the male cone is ensured by the static pressure of a coil spring which freely surrounds the spindle. The female cone is part of the drive pulley rotated by a belt or otherwise. The spindle freely passes through a housing with the intervention of ball bearings, said casing supporting the mechanism associated with the clutch, a mechanism which ensures, among other things, the disengagement when the cocoon body is at the desired length when the wire breaks or when the spool. wire feed is exhausted o
An embodiment of the invention will be described below with reference to the accompanying drawing.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal axial section of the clutch mechanism and the spindle.
Figure 2 is a rear end elevation of the device.
Figures 3 and 4 illustrate details relating to the engagement and disengagement positions of the mechanism.
Spindle 2 passes through housing 1 fixed to the machine frame.
On the rear side, the spindle axis freely passes through a sleeve 3 mounted in ball bearings 4 and 5. The internal ring of the bearing 4 is immobilized by a nut 6. The control pulley 7 is screwed onto the outer end of the sleeve 3 and immobilizes the inner ring of the bearing 5. The pulley 7 forms the female cone 7 'of the clutch and it is mounted on the ball bearing 9, the inner ring of which engages in a notch of the wedge 11 which can slide in the longitudinal groove 10 of the spindle 2. Said inner ring is provided with an axial notch for
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
engagement of the hold It. The wedge 11 also engages in a groove 8 "of the male cone 8.
On the side of the pulley 7 the male cone is hollowed out and this recess is fitted with a helical spring 14 abutting against a washer 13 and tending to push the cone 8 out of the cone 7 '. This washer 13 can follow the movement of rotation of the internal ring of the bearing 9.
Behind the male cone 8 is located the ball bearing 17 housed between the washer 18, which immobilizes the outer ring, and a washer 16 which can follow the rotational movement of the inner ring of the bearing 17. A coil spring 15 is housed between the washer 16 and an annular recess 15 'of the male cone 8. The spring 15 is of greater power than that 14 disposed on the other side of the cone 8.
Below pulley 7, housing 1 carries the support arm 19 on the outside which supports the clutch control mechanism.
The support 19 carries at the end the transverse bracket 22 in which the shaft 21 is mounted. This shaft 21 carries the sleeves 41 placed on either side of the bracket 22; these sleeves 41 are each provided with an arm 23 drawn upwards and terminated by a disc 24; these discs are directed with their plane parallel to the axis of the spindle and make contact through their periphery with the washer 18. The two arms 23 forming the forks are secured by a transverse bridge 23 'which carries a tooth 26 below in its middle.
The left sleeve 41 (Figures 1 and 3) is integral with a member x ending in a lower heel 34. The member x carries a screw y which engages the corresponding arm 23 through an elongated slot z, so that the member x can oscillate from left to right to allow adjustment of the pressure of the spring 15 in the clutch position, (FIG. 1 shows the disengaged position).
The bracket 22 is provided in its upper plane with a groove 42 parallel to the axis of the spindle and in which the cam 29 can slide freely. This cam 29 has at the front a tooth 30 which engages in the groove. peripheral 43 of the male clutch cone 8; the rear flange 44 of this cone engages in a notch 31 of the cam 29. Note the differential play on either side of the flange 44 in the notch 31; the rear wall of the notch 31 must never touch the flange; during engagement, which takes place by lowering the crank lever 20, the flange 44 pushes or drives the cam 29 towards the housing. In the clutch position, the cam 29 has sufficient play in the groove 43 so as not to rub against the flange 44. Likewise, in the disengaged position, the cam 29 is not in contact with the flange 44.
Towards the rear, the cam 29 has a notch 28 with a lower cusp 28 '. The tooth 26 of the bridge 23 'can oscillate in the hollow formed by the notch 28 and the cusp 28' and act on an adjustable bolt 27 screwed into the talant part of the cam 29.
The heel of the axis of the spindle 2 is equipped with a washer 25 on which the discs 24 of the oscillating forks 41-23 can act.
The oscillation of the forks 41-23 is controlled by the angled lever 20, the lowering of which operates the clutch.
On the front side of the housing 1, the spindle 2 is mounted in the ball bearing 37 fixed in a yoke 36 mounted in the front wall of the housing. The yoke 36 has a cylindrical hollow with a diameter substantially greater than that of the spindle, which comes out freely from this yoke. and A coil spring 38 surrounds the spindle inside the yoke and is clamped between the inner race of the bearing 37 and a washer 39 fixed to the spindle by a pin 400
As in the known copseuses and cocoons, each spindle has its automatic disengagement mechanism operating when the winding wire breaks, when the cops or cocoon reaches the desired length or when
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the unwinding reel is exhausted.
This mechanism is briefly illustrated by the lever 32 oscillating at 33, a point integral with the housing The lever 32 weighing more towards the front of the housing, when the lever 20 is lowered (clutch position), this lever 32 oscillates at 33, its end 35 rises and engages the heel 34 of the member x secured to the left sleeve 41 (Figures 2 and 3), it follows that the sleeves 41 with their forks 23 are retained in the clutch position, the spring 15 thus compressing the conical surfaces 7 'and 8 and ensuring the positive drive of the clutch system.
When the thread to be copsed is broken, or when the latter is exhausted, or even when the required length of the cap or cocoon is obtained, a mechanical system of known type raises the front part of the lever 32, which pivoting at 33, lowers the rear end 35, freeing the heel
34 and allowing the forks 41-23 to pivot on the axle 21 from left to right under the double pressure of springs 14 and 15. At this moment the discs
24 are at the rear part of the spindle wedged between the washers 18 and
25.
Since the surfaces of the male and female cones are no longer in contact, the drive of the spindle has ceased and the clutch is released.
In Figure 4, the clutch position of the members 32-34-35-23-24 is illustrated in solid lines; the disengaged position of these components is shown in dotted lines.
In front of the yoke 36, the spindle is advantageously equipped with a base carrying the forming member of the taper of the nose of the shell or cocoon, or else this base carries such a member as described in the applicant's patent filed on March 26, 1953. .
The clutch device operates as follows:
The wire fed from the unwinding spool is passed through the wire guide and wound up a few turns on the spindle. The pulley 7 is rotated by the general control of the machine. The bent lever 20 is lowered and the discs 24 instantly push the bearing 17 with its washers 16-18 against the action of the spring 15 to engage the male horn with the female cone 7 '. By lowering the lever 20 the flange 44 pushes or drives the cam 29 towards the housing and the lever 32 is engaged by its end 35 on the heel 34 of the body xo The clutch position is ensured and maintained by the pressure of the spring 15; the wire is wound on the spindle in a known manner.
When the thread breaks or when the unwinding reel is exhausted, or when the cock or cocoon has reached its determined length, the lever 32 is raised mechanically at the front, due to the disappearance of the tension of the wire, its lowering at the rear eliminates the contact with the heel 34 and the action of the spring 15 rejects the forks 41-23 backwards, which gives, through the tooth 26, a blow to the cam 29 , the latter instantly communicates this blow to the flange 44 and releases the conical surfaces of the clutch. The spring 14 then comes into action and returns the cam 29 to the free position shown in Figure 1.
When the disengaging operation under the action of the spring 15 is finished, the lever 20 is raised a little using the ball which ends it, which brings the discs 24 further back to push the brake back a little. washer 25 and therefore pin 2.
This retraction of the pin operates a slight repression of the body or cocoon 1 intervention of the forming organ of the conical nose; the cops or cocoon is therefore detached from the spindle and the serving can remove it without effort. This retraction of the pin is done against the action of the spring .38, which returns the pin with the washer 39 and the pin 40.
This sophisticated clutch achieves extremely smooth and instantaneous engagement and disengagement, without fatigue for the components.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
in function and without wear for the clutch cones.
The spindle is suspended in bearings 9 and 37 and the cones are precisely centered by bearings 4 and 5. The spindle is immune to any vibration and turns quietly. Lubrication being possible under the best conditions, the service life of such a clutch is unlimited.
