Fig. 1 est une vue partielle en coupe d'un système vis-écrou suivant l'invention;
Figo 2 une vue de détail partielle d'une cage avec billes formant une spire et qui est utilisée dans ledit système;
Figo 3 une vue d'une variante de système vis-écrou suivant l'invention;
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

The present invention relates to screw and nut systems and, in particular, to differential screw systems. It is known that these mechanical systems have, in particular, the drawback of giving rise to significant friction which adversely affects their operation.
The invention consists in providing, between the engaged threads, rolling balls enclosed in a cage, end-of-travel stops preventing the cage from coming out of the threads being provided on the threads.
The efficiency of the screw-nut transmission is thus increased in very large proportions, which improves the operation of devices fitted with such a system.
In practice, it is advantageous to use a cage forming at least one complete turn.
The invention also relates to devices, such as in particular an apparatus for fitting hollow rivets, comprising the application of the improvement to the screw-nuts according to the invention.
Other characteristics and advantages of the subject of the invention will emerge from the description which follows and which relates to embodiments of the invention.
In this description, reference is made to the accompanying drawing which shows:
Fig. 1 is a partial sectional view of a screw-nut system according to the invention;
Figo 2 a partial detail view of a cage with balls forming a coil and which is used in said system;
Figo 3 a view of a variant of the screw-nut system according to the invention;
Fig. 4 a view, half in axial section, half in elevation of an apparatus according to the invention for the installation of tubular rivets.
As shown in FIG. 1, between the two threads 1 and 2 engaged by a screw and a nut, balls 3 are interposed which are in contact with the sides of these threads, whether or not provided with a raceway. rolling. These balls are also held in a cage 4 which keeps them in place by preventing them from spilling into the nets.
The cage has a length such that it forms one turn or more than one turn (shown schematically at 4a in FIG. 2). The device is completed by end stops preventing the cage from coming out of the nets.
As shown in figo 3, it is possible to interpose two rows of balls 3 instead of just one. A screw-nut system is thus produced making it possible to exert the forces indifferently in both directions; such an arrangement can be used for devices intended for screwing and unscrewing components such as screws and nuts using the principle of reversible thread screws (screwdrivers, drilles, etc.). The device according to the invention makes it possible to significantly reduce the pitch and consequently the size of these screws.
The apparatus shown in FIG. 4 and which comprises the application of this device, is intended for the installation of hollow rivets having an internal thread, these rivets being used in particular when only one side of the elements to be riveted is accessible. It is known that the devices for the installation of these rivets comprise a screw which is engaged in the thread of the rivet and means making it possible to exert a traction on this screw of
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
so that under the action of the latter and of the head of the device resting on the external face of the rivet, the rivet is crimped on the internal face.
The apparatus according to the invention comprises a central rod 5 integral at one end of a handwheel 6 and at its other end of a screw 7. It also comprises a nut 8 with double external 9 and internal 10 thread. one face, the thread 9 is engaged, via the balls 14, with the thread 11 provided inside the outer sleeve 12. The other face is in direct contact with the thread. The thread 10 is itself in engagement., By means of the balls 14a, with the external thread 13 of the hollow screw 25 and, by the other face, in direct contact with said thread. The assembly thus forms a differential screw device and between the threads 9 and 11, on the one hand, and 10 and 13, on the other hand, cages for balls, respectively 14-14a, are provided, as indicated above. .
To prevent the exit of these cages during operation of the apparatus, stops 15/16 and 16a are provided at each end.
The differential screw is moved by means of arms 17 integral with the nut 8.
The apparatus is completed by a head 18 which is intended to come to rest on the outer part of the assembly, and a lug 19 which moves in a slot 20 to prevent rotation of the hollow screw 25.
The device also comprises a threaded stud 21 screwed into a ring 22, this stud making it possible, when it is unscrewed, to release the screw 7 and to change the screw. Between the ring 22 and the part 23 in which the lug 19 is screwed is interposed a small bearing 24.
This device operates as follows
The hollow rivet is screwed onto the screw 7 and the nut 8 being unscrewed as far as possible, the hollow rivet is introduced into the hole made beforehand in the parts to be assembled. By acting on the rods 17, the operation of the differential screw is ensured and the difference in the pitches ensures the retraction of the screw 7 and the tensile force causes the crimping of the rivet against the inner face of the assembly. Then all that remains is to release screw 7 by acting on handwheel 6.
It should be noted that during the riveting operation the cages containing the balls move half the path traveled by the threads of the screw.
As a result of the presence of the balls between the threads, the efficiency of the device is very high, that is to say that the force exerted on the control rods is much lower, to ensure the same riveting, that 'with devices which would not have this ball device. The force exerted on the rods is of course directly related to the difference in the pitches of the internal and external threads.
It must be understood that the invention is not limited to the indications and to the embodiment of the riveting apparatus which have just been given. Thus the improvement to the screw-nut systems according to the invention can be applied to any devices comprising such members and in particular to hub pullers, jacks, devices of the drille type, etc. These devices then require less effort for their actuation and are of a smaller size.
