Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

The present invention relates to improvements in the manufacture of materials for covering floors, such as rugs, drugstores and the like. A particular object of the invention is to present a material intended to cover the floor, hairless, of pleasant appearance, which, although it is relatively inexpensive, is exceptionally resistant to wear.

According to the invention, the material intended to cover the floor comprises a woven fabric, rubber applied to the back of said fabric, a sheet material, preferably wrapping fabric, applied to said rubber, and further rubber. applied to the reverse side of said sheet material.

Likewise, according to the invention, a method of producing such a material comprises the steps of spreading rubber on the underside of a woven fabric, applying a sheet material, preferably woven fabric. 'wrapping,' on said rubber while the latter is sticky, and still spreading, rubber on the back of said formerly foil.

It is understood that the term "rubber" extends to rubber substitutes.

A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying schematic drawing.

Figure 1 is a plan of a fragment of druggeting-like material.

Figure 2 is a lower plane thereof.

Figure 3 is a section thereof. The surface of the material is that of a cloth 1, woven tightly, with carpet or drugstore yarn, on a draper, for example a "Dobcross" loom. . The surface is therefore a hairless surface. On the back of the fabric, a layer 2 of recovered rubber is spread and, while the latter is still sticky, a wrapping fabric 3 is pressed onto it.

Then, more recovered rubber 4 is spread over the reverse side of the wrapping cloth 3. This second rubber layer may be somewhat thicker than the first, but it is nevertheless thin enough that the rubber has a thicker surface. rough reverse surface, matching the pattern of the weave of the wrapping fabric. The rubber applications serve to bond the fabric 1 and the wrapping fabric 3 in themselves and to each other, to produce a stiffening effect and to prevent unraveling. The second layer also provides a non-slip bottom surface.

Instead of reclaimed rubber, latex rubber or a rubber substitute, for example a plastic rubber substitute, can be used. One of the suitable methods of applying the rubbery substance is as follows: layers of rubber paste are applied respectively to the fabric 1 and the wrapping fabric 3. The two rubberized surfaces are then joined together. using a clamp and roller device and are therefore linked together.

One or two layers of rubber or rubber substitute are applied to the wrapping fabric side of the composite material, which is finally vulcanized in a hot atmosphere. The rubber or rubber substitute may contain a disinfectant or an anti-moth agent.

Cotton or jute fabric, heavy canvas, heavy paper or the like may be used instead of wrapping fabric for certain purposes.

The material according to the invention, besides being relatively inexpensive and resistant to wear, has the advantages of being elastic in itself and of not requiring a felted lining, of being easily cut to size. using a knife or scissors, not requiring edging and therefore easily adjusted, the material in question can also be easily cleaned and provides protection against moisture and

The molds. It can be made resistant to light and lye.
