Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

1) 60% en poids d'une pâte de sulfure ferrique contenant environ   60%   de Fe2S3, le reste étant de l'eau,   30%   en poids de soufre colloïdal contenant 50 à   60%   de soufre et 50 à   40%   d'eau;

   et
10% en poids de dodecylsulfonate d'ammonium ;

   The main patent discloses a process for facilitating cold working of metals, in particular cold drawing and extrusion, in which a lubricant is used which produces a film of sulfide on the surface of the metal, and more particularly colloidal sulfur to facilitate stretching.

   It has now been discovered that instead of colloidal sulfur it is possible to use water-insoluble sulfur compounds which, under cold working conditions, especially in the presence of water, liberate sulfur and produce a film. sulfide on the metal surface.

   According to the invention, in order to facilitate drawing and in general cold working, mineral sulphides or polysulphides which are insoluble in water, preferably in the presence of water, are used; it is thus possible to use, for example, iron sulphides, such as ferric sulphide, ferrous sulphide, iron disulphide or manganese sulphides.

   It is also possible to use organic sulphides capable of liberating elemental sulfur under cold working conditions, such as, for example, polyethylene polysulphides. Particularly suitable are inorganic and organic sulphides which contain sulfur bound to sulfur and which, for this reason, readily release sulfur, such as, for example, iron disulphide and polyethylene polysulphides.

   These sulfurizing agents can be used with or without wetting agents and / or binders such as dextrins, cellulose glycolate, etc ... It is however possible to use sulfurizing agents in mixture with ordinary lubricants such as soaps, sulfonates long chain fatty alcohols or lubricants which are insoluble in water, such as drawing powders or lubricating oils or in combination with emulsions such as oil-in-water emulsions.

   It has been found in particular that the sulphides insoluble in water can be used alongside dry stretching agents and lubricating oils, when the sulfur compounds which can be used according to the invention are mixed with the so-called "drying agents". 'dry drawing' consisting essentially of metallic soaps insoluble in water, or with metallic soaps dissolved in colloidal form in lubricating oils.

   As regards dry stretching agents or stretching fatty substances containing sulphides insoluble in water, it is possible, provided that the technical metallic soaps do not already contain water,

 adding them to increase the reactivity of the safes with 1% ersu or more, in order to enhance the formation of a sulfide film during forming.

   The ferric sulfide which can be used according to the invention can be produced by adding sodium or ammonium sulfide to an aqueous solution of a ferric salt and washing the precipitated Fe2S3 in a non-oxidizing atmosphere. According to the invention, the ferric sulphide is preferably used in the form of a paste to which colloidal sulfur can be added. An anti-oxygen, such as hedroquinone, can also be added to this paste to prevent oxidation.

   The iron disulfide usable according to the invention can be produced by adding ammonium polysulfide to an aqueous solution of a ferric salt. Natural pyrites in the wet or dry state ground to a colloidal particle size constituting good sulphurants, with

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 cu without the addition of carbohydrates or other inert organic compounds.

   Polyethylene polysulfides are obtained by treating ethylene dichloride with potassium polysulfide and can be used in unpurified dry form or as a latex. Instead of polyethylenic polysulphides, it is possible to use other organic compounds rich in sulfur, such as, for example, dummies, reaction products of sulfur chloride with rapeseed oil or ricinoleic acid.

   The amount of conventional lubricant added to the sulfurizing agent depends on the reactivity of the contemplated metal with the sulfurizing agent.

   When cold working less reactive metals, for example steels with a high content of carbon and / or alloying elements, it is preferred to use larger amounts of sulfurizing agents, for example in the form of mixtures. composed of:
1) 60% by weight of a ferric sulphide paste containing about 60% Fe2S3, the remainder being water, 30% by weight of colloidal sulfur containing 50 to 60% sulfur and 50 to 40% water ;

   and
10% by weight of ammonium dodecylsulfonate;
2) 90 to 95% by weight of the unpurified reaction product of polysulfide potassium and ethylene dichloride with 10% water,
10 to 5% by weight of aluminum stearate.

   When cold working very strong steels for which a relatively high working temperature in the die or die is desirable, in order to increase the reactivity of the sulfurizing component of the lubricant, the water content of the lubricant should not exceed 10%. .

   Since the sulphides which can be used according to the invention are normally obtained in the form of pastes containing 40% water or more and the drying of these pastes requiring special precautions to avoid the formation of less reactive varieties, these pastes can advantageously be used in the same way. manner as that described in the main patent.

   Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiments described which have been given only by way of example.
