Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

   Fig. 7 en est la vue en front.

Fig. 9 est une vue en plan de celui-ci.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

   The present invention relates to machines for making coated tablets or similar products and its main aim is to create a new construction which makes it possible to obtain a uniform layer thickness for all parts of the coating.

   The term "like products" extends to any relatively small article made from a powder crushed by pressure and subsequently coated by pressure, i.e. extends to any coated article similar to coated tablets, but known by another name, for example coated pills, coated tablets, coated lozenges, coated fillers, coated dragees, etc.

   According to the invention, a machine for making coated tablets or similar products comprises a mechanism for making the core of the tablets, a mechanism for coating said tablet core and provided with a die. coating and a transport mechanism ensuring the transport of the tablet core or the like from the first mechanism to the second, said transport mechanism being, for a limited period, engaged with and controlled by a part of the mechanism coating, part which, by its action on the transport mechanism, brings and maintains the core of a tablet or other similar product exactly in accordance with the coating matrix,

   for a period during which the tablet core or other like product descends into the coating die and the transport device withdraws from the tablet core or other like product and the coating die.

   For a good understanding of the invention and to facilitate its practical implementation, an exemplary embodiment of the new machine is described below in support of the drawings in which:
Fig. 1A and 1B are a side elevational view partly cut away along line 1-1 of Figs, 2A, 2B of a machine for making coated tablets.

   Fig. 2A and 2B are a plan view partially cut away along line 2-2 of Figs 1A, 1B of this machine.

   Fig. 3 is a partial side elevational view, partly in vertical section, of a detail and showing certain parts in other positions.

   Fig. 4 is a partial end view of a detail and showing certain parts in still other positions.

   Fig. 5 is an end elevational view showing another detail.

   Figs. 3 and 4 are drawn on an enlarged scale.

   Fig. 6 is a partial elevational view of a detail.

   Fig. 7 is the front view.

   Fig. 8 is a partial end view of a detail and
Fig. 9 is a plan view thereof.

   In these drawings which are more or less schematic, there is a stationary frame 1 on which a table 2 is mounted so as to be able to turn. This table comprises dies 3 arranged for making the tablet cores, two of which are represented and marked by 4.

  Above the table is a column 5 provided with a head 6 in which slide punches 7 which cooperate with punches 8 sliding in a foot 9 rotating with the table 2. The punches 8 operate in the dies 3 and a stationary cam 10 is used to lift and remove

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 ash the punches 7 which are also actuated by a roller (not shown) intended to force them to enter at the right moment in the dies 3 in order to compress the tablet cores from the powder, which is brought there by a stationary hopper 22 A stationary cam 11 acts on the punches 8 to lift them sufficiently for ejection from the die of the shaped tablet cores. One of the tablet cores is shown at the precise moment of its ejection from die 3.

  Hitherto the mechanism described above is well known in the manufacture of tablets by pressing from powder.

   The frame 1 is also provided with a rotary table 12 having a foot 13 with punches 14 acting upwards and a column 15 with a head 16.

  In this there are punches 17 acting downwards, being controlled by a cam 18 in most of their operation and by a roller (not shown) for a certain period, with a view to compressing what is introduced into the latter. the coating dies 19 provided in the table 12. The head 16 rotates with the table 12. The tables 2 and 12 and, consequently their feet 9 and 13 and the heads 6 and 16 rotate at equal speeds in the direction of the arrows shown in Fig. 2, for example under the action of a worm 20 connected to the table 2 through its foot 9 and a worm 21 connected to the table 12 through its foot 13. The tables are arranged one close to the other.

   Each punch 14 is controlled by a stationary cam 23 which lowers it by a predetermined amount, in order to allow the die 19 to receive a first charge of powder, then lowers it in order to allow the die to receive a tablet core and finally lowered it further to allow the die to receive a second charge of powder. A stationary hopper 24 is provided above the table 12 to feed the die with the first charge of powder and another stationary hopper 25 ensures its supply with the second charge of powder. A stationary cam 26 is combined with the two hoppers for a purpose which will be described below.

   The ejected tablet core 4 is introduced into the die between the two supply phases with the first and second charges.

  The die 19 has a larger diameter than the tablet core so that the powder from the second charge can form a coating of the required thickness around the edge of the tablet,
For the introduction into the die 19 of the tablet core ejected by the punch 8, there is the transfer mechanism described below.

   The stationary bridges 27 and 28 are arranged between the two tables 2 and 12 to form tracks which constitute the continuation of the upper faces of said tables. A pin 29 is disposed between the tables and rotated by a suitable control mechanism in synchronism with the said tables. A plate 30 rotates with the spindle and comprises a series of arms 31 which are therein articulated by the pivots 32, each arm being able to oscillate freely and independently of the others.

  Each arm 31 has a cleat 33 which slides on it, by virtue of a rod 34 guided in a longitudinal bore of the arm.

  The rod is pushed outwards under the effect of a compression spring 35 housed in said bore, the travel of the cleat being however limited by a stop 36 with which the cleat is provided and which cooperates with a bushing. - tee 37 provided on the arm 31. The stop 36 also cooperates with the side of the arm 31 in order to limit the rotation of the cleat around the axis of the pin 34

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

Although the arm 31 and, consequently, the cleat 33 can oscillate freely around the pivot 32, this oscillation is controlled by a spring rod 38 fixed at 39 to the plate 30 and sliding in an orifice 40 of the cleat 33, said spring rod having the task of resiliently retaining the arms and cleat in the normal position and of returning them there after they have moved away from them.

   The cleat has a fork 41 intended to receive a perforated boss 42 provided at the head 16 concentrically with the axis of the respective punch 17 which passes therethrough. During the rotation of the different parts, the fork of each cleat 33 engages with one of said bosses 42 and the movement of the cleat is then controlled by the boss until the fork is released again.

   Said cleat is thus positively guided in accordance with the punch
17 and forced to follow its trajectory for a fraction of its evolution. Since the table 12 and the head 16 are in fixed relation with respect to each other, the boss 42 will also be in fixed relation with respect to the die 19. Since the cleat 33 is brought into exact correspondence. with the boss 42 and will also be relative to the die 19 and this for a period long enough to deposit and house a core of tablets inside the die 19.

   For the deposit of a shelf core, each cleat comprises a ring 43 which can slide vertically in the cleat 33 and whose outer diameter of its lower end allows it to form a sliding seal in the die 19, of its inner diameter. being such that the shelf core forms a sliding seal inside the ring. The ring comprises a lug 44 fixed to it and sliding vertically in a slot 45 made in the cleat 33, said lug projecting beyond the cleat to be able to be engaged by the cam 26. In the ring is a weight. slide 46 provided with a slot 47 which cooperates with the lug 44 by allowing the weight 46 to perform a determined upward and downward stroke, independently of the lug and therefore of the ring 43.

   The head 6 is also provided with perforated bosses 48 which are concentric with respect to the punches 7 which pass through; these bosses, by engagement with the forks 41, cause the cleat 33 to enter positively in agreement with the die 3 and cause it to move in accordance with said die, following the path thereof, for a certain period, for which there is engagement of the fork with the boss.

  Consequently, each cleat 33 follows the path indicated in FIG. 2 by a mixed line 49 and it will be noted that this path differs from a circular path by the cooperation of the bosses 42 and 48 with the forks 41, the sliding ability of the rods 34 allowing this deviation.

   In addition, since the arms can oscillate independently on their pivots 32, each of them can be taken out of its normal position by the boss which engages with it, in the event that an irregularity in the spacing of the legs. dies or any other similar irregularity require a deviation of the cleat and arm from their normal state, in order to allow the bosses to cooperate with the forks to ensure engagement and alignment of the rings with the dies for sufficiently long periods to allow the shelf cores to be placed and housed in a well-centered manner and flush in the dies 19.

   During the period in which each cleat 33 moves in accordance with a die 3, the respective punch 8 ejects a tablet core into the respective ring 43. The ejected tablet will be slid along the table 2, the bridge 28 and table 12 until it arrives above a die 19. In this time, the corresponding boss 42 will have supported the cleat 33 and ensured a correct adjustment and concordance of the movements of the die. die 19 and ring 43.

   This one is

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 maintained in its raised position by sliding on said surfaces and will come under the influence of the cam 26 (see Figs. 1, 2 and 5) so that the lug overlaps on the surface of said cam, a surface which has a slope 50 (see Fig. 5) allowing the lug and hence the ring to descend during the period in which it moves in exact match and along the same path as the die. In this way, the ring descends with its lower end into the die and onto a bed of powder 52 previously inserted therein, aided, in doing so, by the weight 46 which presses by gravity on the tablet core.

   The latter is thus guided laterally by the ring until it has reached the powder bed 52, whereby it is perfectly centered in the die, which ensures uniform coating around its edge. In addition, the weight pressing on the tablet core acts against any deviation of this core from its flush position, that is to say any deviation thereof from a horizontal position, thus ensuring that the bed 52 below the tablet core will be uniform and yet the coverage subsequently applied above the tablet core will also be uniform. While the boss 41 still dictates the trajectory of the cleat 33, an ascending ramp of the cam 26 forces the lug 44 to rise, and at the same time, the ring 43 to rise until it is completely free from the die.

   On the other hand, thanks to the slot 47 the weight 46 is not lifted from the die until the ring is released from the tablet; weight therefore acts against lifting of the tablet by the ring out of the die.

  However, the lug, after having reached the upper edge of the slot 47, also releases the weight of the die and ring and weight then occupy the position shown in fig 3. 'After the lug has left the cam 26, ring and weights will overlap on the surfaces of tables 2 and 12 and bridge 27 as shown in FIG. 4. When the newly formed tablet core is ejected by the respective punch 8, it will only push the weight to a higher position, which is allowed by the slot 47 and it is only after the ring and the tablet slide on. tables 2 and 12 and deck 28.

   The powder bed 52 on which the tablet core sits consists of powder falling from the hopper 24 into the die at the time when the upper end of the punch is some distance below the die. hole of the die and before it meets the ring 43. After the natrix leaves the hopper 24, the punch 14 is lowered, so that its upper end is at a greater distance from the orifice of the die. die and thus there is prepared room for the tablet core 4 before it will be deposited into the die.After this deposition has taken place and the ring and weight have been lifted to their complete disengagement and are away from the proximity of the matrix,

   the punch 14 will be lowered still further so that its upper end is located at an even greater distance from the orifice of the die thus causing a sufficient descent of the bed 52 and of the tablet core 4 to reserve room for the die. covering powder, after which this covering powder falls from hopper 25 into the die and uniformly fills the space left free by the ring around the edge of the tablet, thus creating a uniform coating over the tablet.

  After that the punch 17 is forced to descend exerting the pressure required for the compression of the lower bed and the upper layer so as to form a complete coating around the tablet core.

   The punch 17 is then lifted again in the position shown in Freeze the so as to be completely disengaged from the other parts, while the punch 14 is driven upwards to eject the coated tablet from the die, which will then be driven. towards the edge of the table by

 a stationary belt conveyor 53 combined with the hopper 24. FIG. 4 shows the ring, the tablet core and the weight in a fully engaged position in the die 19. To allow the ring to land more quickly on the powder bed 52 already contained in the die, its lower edge could be provided with notches 54, as shown in FIG.

   3.

   Preferably, there is also provided a mechanism making it possible to carry out, if desired, a control of samples by taking the cores of tablets produced in the manufacturing mechanism of said cores without it being necessary to stop. the machine. One embodiment of this mechanism, shown more particularly in Figs. 6, 7,
8 and 9, consists of a lever 55 with handle 56 articulated at 57 to the frame of the machine. The operating lever 55 is, by its end not provided with a handle, articulated at 58 to an arm of a cup, to the 59 which is mounted at the lower end of a connecting rod 60 sliding in the frame 1 L ' upper end of said connecting rod 60 is provided with a part 61 which slides in a slot 62 made in a groove of the cam 23.

   When the part 61 protrudes from the slot 62, it serves as an auxiliary cam. The connecting rod 60 is furthermore provided with a shoulder 63 which can be adjusted in different positions along said connecting rod and comprises two grooves 64, 65. In a part arranged on the frame 1 is mounted an element 66. provided with a ball stop 67 which is biased by a spring and capable of engaging in one or the other of the grooves 64, 65 in order to retain the connecting rod in one of the two axial positions. An adjustable stopper 68 is provided to limit the axial movement of the connecting rod 60 in one direction.

   The other arm of the cleat 59 is provided with an adjustment contact finger 69 which, in an axial position of the connecting rod 60, can engage and close an electrical contact 70 biased by a spring, while in the other position axial of the connecting rod 60, it is released from the electrical contact 70 which can consequently open. Said contact 70 ensures the supply of electric current to a solenoid 71 which, when energized, causes the movement of an element 72 to which is articulated one end of a chain 73 interweaving a chain wheel 74 and of which the other end is connected to a spring 75 anchored to a stationary part of the machine. The chain wheel 74 is keyed to a shaft 76 rotating in stationary bearings and coupled to a flexible shaft 77 which, in turn, is coupled to the pivot of a deflector plate 78.

   This can occupy one of two angular positions, in one of which it opens an outlet 79 and closes another 80, while in the other it closes the first and opens the second.

   When during the operation of the machine it is desired to obtain samples of the tablet cores produced by the manufacturing mechanism of said cores without stopping the machine, the operating lever 55 is brought into the position, in which the auxiliary cam formed. by the part 61 is advanced into the groove of the cam 23. This has the consequence that the first embedding punch 14 which will meet the part 61 is lifted by such an amount as to bring its end flush with the surface of the table 12, the position in which the tablet core 4 and the bed of powder 52 contained in the die 19 are raised above the surface of the table 12.

   A scraper blade 81 (see Figs. 1B and 2B) deflects the tablet core 4 towards the edge of the table 12 and scrapes the bed of powder 52 from the end of the punch 14, while allowing this powder to pass under the table. blade and to walk with table 12 until it falls and is collected dar. the hopper 24. The tablet core 4 travels with the table 12 near the outer edge of the latter and is diverted by the stationary belt conveyor 53 into the discharge mouth comprising the branches 79 and 80.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

  The actuation of the operating lever 55 had already moved the deflector plate 78 via the contact 70, the solenoid 71, the chain 73, the shaft 76 and the flexible shaft 77 into the position in which the branch 80 is open and branch 79 closed. The tablet cores taken as samples therefore descend branch 80 and can be collected.

   When the sampling is to be stopped and the normal production of coated tablets is to be resumed, the lever 55 is moved to its alternate position, in which the part 61 is withdrawn from the groove of the cam 23. contact 69 is released from contact 7D. This is combined with a delay device which prevents it from closing during the period during which the cores of tablets already taken out of their dies 19 are forced down through the discharge mouth 80 to be collected.

  When the contact closes after this delay, the solenoid is de-sexed and the spring 75 turns the chain wheel 74 and consequently the deflector plate 78 so that the latter closes the discharge mouth 80 and opens the chain wheel. outlet 79, through which the coated tablets pass and can be collected separately from the uncoated tablet cores which have passed through the outlet 80.
