La fig. 7 est une coupe suivant la ligne 7-7 de la fig. 6 ;
La fig. 8 représente une troisième forme d'exécution du boîtier ;
La fig. 9 est une coupe suivant la ligne 9-9 de la fig. 8 ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
La fig. 5 représente le dispositif permettant d'utiliser un ru- ban magnétique comportant deux pistes acoustiques parallèles, les surfaces polaires de l'écouteur 3 représentées par des hachures se trouvant en re- gard de la piste acoustique supérieure. Etant donné que le boîtier est sy- métrique par rapport à la ligne médiane M-M traversant l'écouteur 3, et que le galet d'entraînement 11 est monté d'une manière correspondante, il est possible, après avoir écouté la piste acoustique supérieure, d'écouter la piste inférieure, si l'on a retiré le boîtier de l'appareil de reproduc- tion, si l'on a retourné ce boîtier de 180 et qu'on l'a réintroduit dans l'appareil;

The present invention relates to a reproduction apparatus for acoustic magnetic tapes of the type in which the acoustic tape is arranged in a case capable of being introduced into the reproduction apparatus. The apparatus according to the invention is intended more particularly to implement in practice the principle of the "talking book" or of the "talking newspaper", a principle according to which the content of a book intended for instruction or for distraction, from a newspaper or periodical, is reproduced on the magnetic acoustic medium to be made available to a large circle of interested persons likely to buy or rent it.
The practical application of this principle requires, first of all, that the parties concerned have at their disposal a reproduction apparatus, the operation of which is easy and the constitution of which is simple enough to reduce the cost of manufacture to a minimum.
In accordance with the invention, the reproduction apparatus or the box which is introduced into this apparatus and containing the reels serving for unwinding and rewinding the acoustic tape are such that the housing has a notch in which the tape sound passes freely, the part of the acoustic tape thus resting freely being gripped, when the housing is in place, by the drive roller provided in the reproduction apparatus so as to act on the earphone also mounted in the reproduction apparatus.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the housing is symmetrical with respect to the reproduction device and to the earphone, mounted in the latter, and this in such a way that by using a magnetic tape carrying two parallel acoustic tracks, one can hear the acoustic tracks one after the other, in the sense that when the first track has been fully heard, the case is taken out of the reproduction device and 'reintroduced there after rotating 180.
The invention also provides an advantageous construction of the casing according to which the reels serving for unwinding and rewinding the tape, reels which are mounted in the casing, are pushed back under the action of a spring towards the wall of the casing having the notch mentioned above.
It is advantageous for these unwinding and rewinding spools to be mounted so as to be journalled on lever arms rotating about the same pivot. This common pivot for the lever arms is advantageously arranged in the median plane of the box, which plane also forms the plane of symmetry of the latter.
Other details and other advantages of the invention will become apparent on reading the following description of several embodiments shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a reproduction device having a slot intended to receive the case containing the acoustic tape;
Fig. 2 is a view from above of the apparatus of FIG. 1 with the cover partially cut away to allow the position of the housing mounted in the slot which is to receive it to be seen;
Fig. 3 shows an embodiment of a casing mounted in the corresponding slot of the reproduction apparatus with part of the casing of the casing torn off, which makes it possible to see the coils mounted in the casing and serving for the winding and unwinding of the acoustic tape;
Fig. 4 is a section taken along line 4-4 of FIG. 3;
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
FIG. 5 shows the small side of the housing seen in the direction which allows the acoustic tape to be seen lying freely in the notch of the housing;
Fig. 6 shows another embodiment of the housing;
Fig. 7 is a section taken along line 7-7 of FIG. 6;
Fig. 8 shows a third embodiment of the housing;
Fig. 9 is a section taken along line 9-9 of FIG. 8;
In figs. 1 and 2, 1 designates the housing of the reproduction apparatus in which are mounted in the usual manner an electric drive motor 2, an earphone 3 receiving the magnetically recorded sounds, an amplifier 4 connected to the earpiece and a speaker 5 connected to this amplifier.
In addition, the reproduction apparatus comprises in the usual manner a switch 6 and an adjustment button 7 for the loudspeaker. The magnetic tape that you want to listen to is mounted in the housing '8 which can be pushed back inside the slot 9 provided on the reproduction apparatus to receive it. The housing 1 may include a notched portion 8 which facilitates removal of the housing. The latter comprises, as will be described below in more detail, a notch in its small side penetrating into the reproduction apparatus, the acoustic tape passing freely through this notch, which allows the tape to be grasped, in the part thus resting freely, parity drive roller 11 controlled by the motor 2 and then act on the earpiece 3.
Fig. 3 shows an embodiment of a housing mounted in the receiving slot of the reproduction apparatus. As can be seen in figs 4 and 5, the case comprises a casing made up of two symmetrical elements 8 'and 8 "and in which the coils 13 and 14 are journaled, serving respectively for winding and unwinding the magnetic acoustic tape. 12. For this purpose, each of the two coils is guided by its axes 13 'or 14' in the pairs of slots 13 'or 14 "formed in the opposite walls of the housing. At the same time, these pins are subjected to the action of the springs constituted by the taut metal wires, 15, 15 'on the one hand and 16, 16' on the other hand, so that they are pushed back into the direction of the small side of the case.
The housing has on this small side notches 17 'and 17 "so that the part of the acoustic tape going from one coil to the other is free. The metal wires forming springs '15, 15' and 16, 16 ', as well as the axes 13' and 14 'are' covered on the outside on each side of the housing by a cover 18, 18 'fixed to the casing of said housing.
It has been assumed in the case of FIG. 3 that the acoustic tape unwinds from the reel 12 to rewind on the reel 13. This is why, when the housing has been placed in the apparatus, the drive roller 11 of the apparatus of reproduction is applied to the acoustic tape at the point where the latter winds up on the reel 13, so that the reel 13 is driven by friction by the roller 11. The reel 14 is at the same time pushed back by the springs 16, 16 'against the inner wall of the housing so that it is slightly braked by this wall during the unwinding of the acoustic tape. To preserve this acoustic tape, the inner wall of the casing may have a covering 19 of felt.
The acoustic tape, going from the coil 13 to the coil 14, moves in front of the earpiece 3 along which it is guided by the lugs 20, 20 ', 21, 21' arranged on either side of its path. Earpiece 3
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
is of a classic type and need not be described in more detail. It is mounted for this purpose in a support 3 'integral with the reproduction device and can move therein so as to be pushed back by a spring 3 "against the acoustic tape which itself rests on a plate. support 22 which may include a covering 22 'of felt.
Fig. 5 shows the device making it possible to use a magnetic strip comprising two parallel acoustic tracks, the pole surfaces of the earphone 3 represented by hatching facing the upper acoustic track. Since the housing is symmetrical with respect to the center line MM passing through the earpiece 3, and the drive roller 11 is mounted in a corresponding manner, it is possible, after listening to the upper acoustic track, to listen to the lower track, if the case has been removed from the reproducing apparatus, if this case has been turned over 180 and reintroduced into the apparatus;
at this point, the acoustic tape must be unwound in the opposite direction, from the full reel to the empty reel, the acoustic track, which was previously in the lower position, now unwinding in front of the earphone. The springs 15, 16 or 15 ', 16' resting on the axes of the two coils can, where appropriate, form part of the same metal wire passing through a transverse opening formed in: the pivot 23 or 23 ' mounted on the corresponding wall of the housing.
To keep the housing in its working position for which it is inside the device, leaf springs 24, 24 'can be fixed in the slot of the reproduction device, the ends of these blades suitably penetrating into the corresponding recesses 25, 25 'of the housing shell.
In the embodiment of FIGS. 6 and 7, the housing has spool pins 13 'sliding in circular arc guides. To this end, there are provided, in a side wall 26 of the housing, grooves 27 or 27 'in an arc of a circle, while the intermediate wall 28 comprises slots in an arc of a circle 29 and 29'. The part of the axis 13 'or 14' extending beyond this intermediate wall 28 is subjected, as previously described, to the action of a compression spring constituted, in the case shown, by a metal wire wound around a central pivot 30.
The shape thus given to this wire forming the spring 31, has the particular advantage that the tension of this wire remains approximately constant, whereas, during the unwinding and winding of the tape, one of the spools is moves down and the other up. @
In the case of the embodiment of figs. 8 and 9, the axes 13 'and 14' of the two coils also move as in the previous case during the unwinding of the acoustic tape following the trajectories in an arc of a circle; for this purpose, the axes are no longer guided in slots or grooves in an arc of a circle, but they are guided simply by virtue of the fact that the compression springs constituted by an elastic metal wire are engaged with the corresponding grooves of the axes 13 'and 14' by their ends 32 in the form of claws.
In a transverse direction, the axes 13 'and 14' are guided by the interior surfaces of the casing of the housing.
The reproduction apparatus may include a device for rewinding the reels to rewind at will and if necessary all or part of the length of the magnetic tape, which makes it possible to listen to it again. It is also possible to provide in the reproduction apparatus a switch which opens automatically after unwinding of the magnetic tape carried by a reel so as to open the circuit of the motor. Such devices are known per se in tape reproduction apparatus.

magnetic and no further details need to be given.
Of course, the present invention covers both the housing itself and the reproduction device which contains it.
