 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

  "Apparatus, electrostatic-for the application of small fragments of matter"
The present invention relates to an electrostatic apparatus for applying small fragments of material to a support covered with an adhesive.

   Apparatus of the type mentioned above are useful in particular for the application of metal powders, of textile waste, for the operation called "flooage" and especially for the application of small glass balls on disks or similar objects intended. to the formation of a reflective surface for road signs, hence for the establishment of reflectors or reflectors.

  In particular for the latter purpose, it is advantageous to have an apparatus 4 ′ easy to handle and preferably transportable. To this end, the apparatus according to the invention comprises a voltage source

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   DC voltage supply, via a vibrator, the primary of a high frequency step-up transformer, the secondary voltage of this transformer being rectified and applied to a capacitor, one of whose The armature is preferably earthed, while the other armature is connected to a metal distributor of the aforementioned small fragments.

   According to another object of the invention, the aforementioned apparatus comprises a reservoir of insulating material, preferably transparent, for the aforementioned small fragments, this reservoir comprising a metal wall, preferably perforated, connected to a high voltage source. continues by a connection passing through an insulated sleeve supporting the aforementioned reservoir.

   Other details and features of the invention will emerge from the description of the drawings appended hereto and which represent, by way of non-limiting example, a particular embodiment of the object of the invention. invention.

   FIG. 1 gives the connection diagram of the apparatus in accordance with the invention.

   , Figure 2 gives a variant of part of the diagram of Figure 1,
Figure 3 is a perspective view of an apparatus according to the invention.

   Figure 4 relates to a variant of Figure 3.

   FIG. 5 gives, on a larger scale, in section and in elevation, a detail of the apparatuses of FIGS. 3 and 4.

   In different figures, the same reference notations designate similar elements.

   The power supply of the electrostatic device which is the subject of the present invention comprises a low voltage direct voltage source constituted by a transformer 1, the primary of which is. which can be supplied by the ordinary AC network, Comprenc.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 preferably several sockets, so that the power supply can be done for example at 110 or 220 volts. The transformer secondary has a center tap 2 which is normally earthed. The terminals 3 and 4 of the secondary of transformer 1 supply two rectifiers 4 '' and 5, so that between the middle terminal 2 of the secondary winding of transformer 1 and terminal 6 we obtain a direct voltage of 24 volts for example.

  This voltage is applied to a vibrator 7 which supplies a high frequency transformer 8 which serves to greatly increase the voltage.

  A high voltage automobile coil is useful in this connection. The voltage across the transformer secondary 8. is for example 25,000 to 30,000 volts. This voltage is applied, through rectifiers 9, which are for example selenium cells, to a capacitor 10 which is therefore charged to a high direct voltage.

   It should be noted that the selenium cells can be replaced by a rectifier lamp 13 for very high voltage, with direct or indirect heating, for example one or the other of the EY51 lamps,
EY86, EY80, DY86, etc. The heating of such a lamp can be resumed either by an additional winding 11 provided on the transformer 8 or also on the network by means of an isolation transformer 12.

   Terminal 14, connected to one of the armatures of capacitor 10, is earthed, while terminal 15 is connected to a metal distributor of small fragments to be applied on a suitable support, covered with an adhesive. The metal distributor consists, in the case of small glass balls, of a perforated plate 16 (FIG. 3) forming the bottom of a scoop 17 of transparent insulating material, for example of a material called "plexiglass". The rear face 18 of the shovel 17 is provided with an insulating handle 19 serving for the high voltage supply.

   This power supply is seen more clearly in FIG. 5: a metal bracket 20, in contact

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 with the perforated plate 16, is mounted on the rear face 18 of the shovel 17. The insulating handle 19 is applied against the face 18 in which a housing has been drilled for a metal rod or tube 21 which is fixed to the bracket 20 by a bolt 22 threaded onto the threaded end of the rod or the casing 21.

   The second end of the rod or of the tube 21 is also threaded and is held in a second housing of larger diameter formed in the sleeve 19 and designated by -23, by means of a bolt 24. On the other hand On the other hand, an insulated cable 25, in relation to terminal 15, carries at its end a threaded insulating sleeve 26 which, in FIG. 5, for the sake of clarity, is shown receded to the left. In fact, the sleeve 26 is fixed to the cable 25 so that the metal core of the cable 25 protrudes from the end of the sleeve 26 by a certain length.

   We designated this stripped portion of the cable 25 by 27,
The sleeve 26 can therefore be screwed onto the threaded end 28 of the handle 19 which has the effect of. bring the end 27 of the cable 25 closer to the bolt 24 and provide electrical contact by means of a spring 29.

   In order to project small glass balls onto a suitable support, they are placed on the perforations of the metal plate 16, -perforations which are such as to allow the balls to be held more or less in position, but do not allow them to be 'they pass through the plate 16. The shovel 17 being supplied with high voltage as has just been indicated, the plate 16 is brought close to the support in question and, under the influence of the electrostatic field thus created, the small glass balls rush onto the support which has been previously coated with an adhesive.

   For the projection of other small fragments of material, for example for small textile fragments, it is possible to use a hopper 30 (figure 4), a hopper made: 'also of transparent plastic material and having a perforated metal part 31 to through which escape textile debris.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

   The device produced is therefore very easy to handle and can easily be transported. It should be noted that the mode of supply adopted facilitates the transport of the device in question.

   It should be understood that the invention is in no way limited to the embodiments described and that many modifications can be made to the latter without departing from the scope of the present patent. Thus in Figure 1 we could replace the DC power supply consisting of transformer 1 and rectifiers 4 and 5 by an accumulator battery designated by
32. The shovel 17 can be used not only for the application and projection of small glass beads, but also for the application of metal powders.
