Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 EMI3.1

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

   <Desc / Clms Page number 1>

   It turns out that among the many road accidents that occur every day, a large number of them are due to crash. the puncture or accidental deflation of the tire of one of the wheels.

   Many solutions have already been proposed. especially; so-called puncture-proof tires, tubeless tires, hollow elastic bands, etc. The solution presented by the present invention consists in providing each of the wheels of the motor vehicle with an auxiliary rim equipped with '' a solid rubber tire, the outside diameter of which is smaller than that of the pneumatic wheel it doubles, i.e. the diameter of the solid band corresponds to that of the deflated tire of the wheel with the - which it is mated.

   In principle, an auxiliary wheel tiller

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 can be mounted on the hub of each wheel, or on each wheel fitted to the vehicle, somewhat in the manner of twin wheels. in fact each of the wheels of the vehicle is permanently fitted with the auxiliary wheel in question, this auxiliary wheel is first mounted on the hub and its profile is such that its solid rubber tire is placed between the chassis or the body of the vehicle and the -normal wheel with tire. Its profile and its arrangement therefore allow the watch, the removal and the filling of the normal wheel, without requiring its own removal.

   In the event of accidental deflation of the tire of the wheel that it overtakes. said tire collapses and the auxiliary wheel, thereby coming into contact with the ground, takes up the load previously supported by the faulty wheel and allows the vehicle to continue to travel, more or less normally and avoids, therefore, the accident. If there is no spare tire, the vehicle can continue on its way, either to the next repair station, or even to the goal. of his trip.

   Tests carried out on the road, using a production vehicle fitted with such auxiliary wheels, have demonstrated the perfect efficiency of these latter.

   Numerous embodiments, necessitated by the particular provisions of the different types of vehicles, are liable.

   One embodiment, given by way of non-limiting example, is shown in the accompanying drawings. wherein:
Fig 1 is a front view of an auxiliary spare wheel according to the invention.

   Fig..2 is a section along the line II-II of fig 1
Fig. 3 shows in section, the assembly of the auxiliary wheel
Figure 4 schematically represents the function of the auxiliary wheel of FIG. 3, when the tire of the normal wheel deflates, which it doubles,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 EMI3.1
 The wheel, auxiliary of help represented for the ends. 1 and 2 is made up in main order by the 1 rite with flange 1. covered with the full bandage 8 and carrying the central core or veil 2.

   This profiled veil, as shown by fig 1 is pierced in its center with the opening 3, intended for the passage of the hub; around the opening 3, the veil 2 is pierced with a crown of lights 4 (five lights in the form shown) intended to allow the wheel to slide over the fixed holes in the hub, lights 5 are cut in the veil of this wheel so that the remaining parts 6 forming ravons, serve as fixing bases for the rim 1.

   The large openings 5 cut in the web 2 'are intended to lighten the weight of the wheel and -to allow ventilation and consequently the cooling of the brake drum 7 which the said web surrounds (see FIG. 3). as shown in fig. 3, the auxiliary wheel (1-2-8) is mounted on the hub 9 and slid, by its slots 4, over the studs 14 fixed in said hub, before the installation of the normal wheel of the vehicle. This last wheel 10, provided with the rim 11 and the tire 12 fitted with its inner tube 13, is fixed by means of the same studs 14 on the hub 9. A plate or an insert 15 conceals the moveu and the studs of the wheel.

   Fig. 3 shows that the auxiliary wheel (1-2-8) surrounds the brake drum 7 and that its outside diameter is smaller than that of the normally inflated tire 12-13 which is fitted to the normal wheel 10. In the event that for any reason the tire 12-13 deflates, it collapses and the solid rubber tire 8 of the auxiliary wheel comes into contact with the ground and takes up the load supported up to that moment by the faulty wheel and continues to 'performing the function which the latter was supposed to perform, eliminating all the risks arising from taking the damaged tire out of service, the accident which could have occurred is avoided with certainty. The vehicle can continue on its way.

   It is obvious that the object of the invention is not exclusively limited to the embodiment shown and described and that

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 the method of fixing the auxiliary wheel must be adapted to the type of wheel it is called upon to overtake. u instead of being fixed on the same studs as the main wheel, the auxiliary wheel can be fixed in any other way depending on the fixing method, on the shape of said main wheel, on the mechanical devices it comprises or which are neighbors. This is a case in point for each. type of vehicle.
