La présente invention évite les inconvénients ci-dessus;
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Pour mieux faire comprendre l'invention, on en décrira ci-après des exemples de réalisation en référence au dessin annexé dans lequel : la figure 1 montre en perspective un exemple de réalisation dans lequel le système de fermeture utilise un aimant et une pièce de fer ; la figure 2 montre, coupé suivant un plan tel que le plan II-II de la figure 1, un carnet utilisant deux aimants cylindriques superposés pour sa fermeture; la figure 3 montre, coupé suivant un plan tel que le plan II-II, un carnet utilisant deux aimants parallélépipédiques superposés pour sa fermeture; la figure 4 montre, coupé selon le même plan II-II, un carnet et deux aimants de fermeture disposés côte à côte;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
contraires soient vis-à-vis.

The present invention relates to a device for closing books, briefcases, portfolios and similar objects (desk pads or others) and mainly notebooks such as those of the "pocket diary" type.
It is known that pocket notebooks, mainly those of the diary type, are subjected to intensive use extending over a long period of time. The manufacturers therefore thought that it was necessary to provide them with a closing system, so that they do not open in the pocket, and thus that the pages are not soiled, crumpled or torn because important notes are often included. Various systems are used which have the drawback of being neither automatic nor operable instantly.
The present invention avoids the above drawbacks;
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The new closure device consists of two magnetic bars, or a magnet and a piece of iron, each arranged on one of the two opposite edges of the notebook and in such a way that they attract each other. The magnets are placed in such a way that, with the notebook closed, they are placed one above the other, or one at the end of the other, or one next to the other.
To make the invention easier to understand, examples of its embodiments will be described below with reference to the appended drawing in which: FIG. 1 shows in perspective an exemplary embodiment in which the closing system uses a magnet and an iron piece ; FIG. 2 shows, cut along a plane such as plane II-II of FIG. 1, a notebook using two cylindrical magnets superimposed for its closure; FIG. 3 shows, cut along a plane such as plane II-II, a notebook using two superimposed parallelepiped magnets for its closure; FIG. 4 shows, cut along the same plane II-II, a notebook and two closing magnets arranged side by side;
and Figure 5 shows, en.vue from above, a notebook of which each sheet of the cover carries a parallelepiped magnet, the two magnets coming end to end .'lors closure.
It can be seen in FIG. 1 that the sheets 1 of the notebook are protected by a cover 2 made of cardboard, leather, or a similar material, plastic or other non-magnetic material, slightly wider than said sheets. The lower sheet 3 of the cover carries a parallelepipedal magnet 4 arranged along the length of the notebook and in the vicinity of the edge. For aesthetic purposes and for
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
maintain said magnet, the material covering the cover also coats the magnet. Under the upper sheet of the cover and opposite the magnet 4 is fixed a ferrous metal frame 5 also coated with the material covering the cover.
It is understood that the magnetic bar, integral with the lower sheet of the cover, attracts the iron frame, or the other magnet integral with the upper sheet of said cover, thus keeping the book closed. To open the said notebook, it will suffice to separate the sheets of the cover and to bring them together to effect the closing without any other additional maneuver being necessary.
FIG. 2 shows a closure system consisting of two cylindrical magnets 6 and 7 arranged, one on the lower sheet of the cover, the other under the upper sheet and in the vicinity of their edges. The magnetic bars are placed in such a way that the North and South poles are opposite in order to attract each other. The magnets 6 and 7 can advantageously occupy only part of the length of the book and be placed in the middle of the sides.
The cylindrical magnets could be parallelepipedal, as shown in Figure 3, and arranged one above the other, or else parallel to each other, as shown in Figure 4, this arrangement offering the advantage of reducing the thickness of the device.
Another exemplary embodiment is shown in FIG. 5 where it can be seen that the magnets 8 and 9, each occupying a maximum of half the length of the book, are arranged in the end-to-end closed position. Magnet 8 is therefore fixed to the upper sheet of the cover while magnet 9 is fixed to the lower sheet. The orientation of the magnets is such that at their junction two poles of names
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
opposites are vis-à-vis. A free space is provided between the magnets and the sheets of the notebook in order to allow the introduction of a pencil or mechanical pencil 10 made of magnetic metal.
