<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>
<Desc/Clms Page number 12>
<Desc/Clms Page number 13>

The present invention relates to a method and a device for the manufacture of corrugated steel elements having parallel corrugations from tubes of particularly large resistance and of large diameter, without using cooperating screws placed inside the tube. The invention is based on the problem of shaping a corrugated member in the manner of a steel bellows, in which all the corrugations have the same shape and the same wall thickness. As a result, the result is obtained that the forces due to atmospheric overpressure and to linear elastic elongation are distributed uniformly over the entire corrugated element.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Shaping methods are known for working thin-walled tubes of steel or other material which can be easily shaped. In general, the initially smooth cylindrical tubes are in this case shaped as corrugated elements by rollers placed inside and outside. In addition, methods are known, in which the shaping is effected by internal hydraulic pressure.
The shaping processes, known until now, could not be used to work high strength materials, for example chromium alloy and heat resistant steels, as well as to work tubes with a large wall thickness. The corrugated steel elements were therefore fabricated by welding separate annular sections together. However, corrugated elements of this kind are not suitable for large pressures and high operating temperatures. An attempt has also been made to conform from the inside to the outside by the method of rolling tubes in corrugated steel elements, the tubes being initially hot corrugated from the inside to the outside, then the corrugations being completed hot. in several phases.
In these processes, we worked either with internal rollers or without them and from the outside with support rollers. In addition, for corrugated tubes of large diameter and sufficient rigidity, it has already been proposed to carry out the hollow shaping without support rollers. In this case, we started from the observation that the hollow conformation without internal cooperating tools has the great advantage that a uniform wall thickness can be obtained, while, when cooperating rollers are arranged inside the tube, it There is an increase in the enveloping surface and a corresponding decrease in wall thickness.
However, tests have shown that the hollow conformation without internal rollers and without support rollers does not give
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
perfect results for corrugated pipes of large diameter and sufficient rigidity. Due to the fact that the tube has been pre-drawn at the place to be corrugated on either side of the corrugation and that the discharge of the material takes place in a non-uniform manner due to the deep-drawn part already subjected to forces, that is to say with a reduction in the thickness of the wall, the absolutely necessary equality of all the undulations with regard to the shape and the thickness of the wall is not obtained, which is essential so that all corrugations are stressed equally for an elastic corrugated element.
The invention therefore proposes to corrugate from the outside the tubular elements to be shaped by simultaneously performing the delivery and rotation using shaping rollers, then to place, during the formation of the '' folds, annular parts. maintaining the shapes in the already shaped waves. This process makes it possible to avoid a weakening of the wall thickness of the outer roundings of the corrugations by eliminating the inner cooperating rollers and a weakening of the wall thickness of the inner roundings of the corrugations during the upsetting of the tube in the axial direction. .
In this case, perfect delivery is only possible by placing annular parts forming a ring or approximately a ring when they are placed side by side. The discharge during the rolling operation takes place here according to a determined function. When the conforming roller moves at a uniform speed in the direction of the axis of the tube and the tube is at the same time imperatively pushed back at a speed taken on a predetermined curve, tests have shown that the wall thickness is equal at all points of the finished corrugated element, that is to say that the neutral zone of the wall of the tube is neither stretched nor repressed.
The various corrugations are shaped from the outside by means of specific shaping rollers, which are
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
arranged in several groups all around the tube to be worked, for example by being placed on a revolving turret-revolver.
To prevent the tube from being bent by the rollers described acting only from the outside to the inside and that the shaping is therefore not performed perfectly, it is necessary to place the shaping rollers at least two by two l 'one in front of the other. It is obviously still preferable to have three sets of shaping rollers in the form of a triangle.
Not only the smooth tube to be shaped, but also the already shaped corrugations are subjected to mechanical pressure by the delivery operation. While the smooth tube exhibits great rigidity, the shaped corrugations exhibit great elastic power. Due to the treatment, therefore, an elastic part is formed next to the rigid smooth tube, becoming increasingly large from corrugation to corrugation, which makes it impossible to uniformity of the delivery process; the various corrugations are thereby given a different shape and a different wall thickness. In practical use, the defective corrugation first is the one with the deepest conformation and smallest wall thickness.
By placing annular parts, in particular of steel, during the shaping and due to the rigidity thus obtained of the already shaped corrugations, the upset is transmitted with a force of the same magnitude as in the smooth tube and the shape of the already shaped corrugations. is retained. The annular pieces can be attached to support arms, which are essentially parallel or perpendicular to the axis of the tube and are brought into the region of the tube to be conformed! then removed from this region under the action of a mechanical, electrical, magnetic, hydraulic or pneumatic force.

following the process of shaping the tubes also hot. In this case, the lone to be conformed is heated by suitable heat sources, for example special burners with electric temperature control. ,

The retaining members 2 and 2a supported on shafts 1 and 1a (Fig. 1) receive the tube to be shaped 6 and are rotated by a mechanical force. This rotation is transmitted to the tube by means of clamping devices 5 and 5a which can be blocked and released using several screws 3, 3a and are connected to the retaining members 2 and 2a - of the tube by pins 4, 4a .
The shaping of the tube into a corrugated element or bellows is carried out using shaping rollers 10, 11, 12, 10a, 11a, 12a and respectively 10b, 11b, 12b, the rollers
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
bearing the same reference number being engaged at the same time, (fig. 2). The shape of the rollers is chosen so that an increasingly narrow and deeper part is gradually pushed back into the tube to be shaped, that is to say the rollers of the various groups have a decreasing width and increasing diameter. The number of rollers, for example three, which at the same time constitutes the number of shaping work passes, is determined by the desired final depth of the corrugations.
When the shaping rollers are guided in the direction of the tube and come into action in succession, not a step-by-step conformation but a continuous conformation.
As will be described later with the aid of FIG. 4, the various groups of rollers 10, 11, 12, 10a, 11a, 12a and 10b, 11b, 12b are each supported on a frame 23b 'in a turret-revolver 38, 38a or 38b which is driven by a corresponding motor 30, 30a or 30b by the intermediary of the shafts 130, 130a or 130b, the conical pairs 31, 31 ', 31a, 31a' or 31b, 31b 'and the axes '39, 39a and 391? .. for more for clarity, the motors 30, 30a and 30b are shown on a smaller scale than the frame 23b.
Since the various rollers 10, 11, 12 have an increasing diameter and a decreasing width, the shaping of a corrugation is completed after a 3600 rotation of the turrets 38, 38a and 38b.
While the rollers are pressed against the tube, there is at the same time a pushback of the tube on the shafts 1 and 1a. The advancement (A) of the rollers and the sliding or pushing movement (B, B1) of each corrugation must be in a determined relation to each other, that is to say must vary according to a determined function, as shown,:. graphically in fig. 3 in the form of a close curve giving the course or advancement.
The discharge from both sides must be
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
transmitted, in this case, to part 15 of the tuba 6.
When, for example, parts 13 and 14 already have. been shaped into corrugations 8 and 9 by previous shaping work passes and have consequently received a shape making them elastic 'in the axial direction, the Slippage B can only be transmitted partially to the part 15 of the tuber while the movement discharge B1 acting in the opposite direction is transmitted in full.
To prevent the production of an asymmetrical shape of the corrugation 15, annular pieces 7 are engaged in the already conformed corrugations 8 and 9 of the parts 13 and 14 of the tube, the upflow movement B being transmitted directly. , that is to say unchanged, on the part 15 of the tube being formed with the aid of these annular parts' /, the shape of the corrugations
8 and 9 is retained. As the shaping progresses, more and more annular pieces are engaged in the newly force corrugations and provide the necessary rigidity to the steel tube 6 being formed both axially and also radially.
The annular parts 7 are advantageously shaped so that they bear against each other; where appropriate, they are still connected to each other by ribs 41.
Fig. 4 shows an exemplary embodiment of a shaping device for the case where it is necessary to work a high resistance material.
In the embodiment according to fig 4, two roller-holder yokes 38, 38a are placed face to face unlike the embodiment according to FIG. 2, in which there are three roller carriers angularly offset by 120.
The device consists of a box-shaped frame 19a, 19b, 19c and 19d and a triangular carriage 23a, 23b and 23c. Bearing supports 25 and 27 movable in the length direction are arranged on the
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
support 19a of the frame and serve to receive the steel tube; r to be shaped 6. The shaping rollers 10, 11, 12, 10a, 11a, 12a or 10b, 11b, 12b with the yokes 38, 38a are secured by pins 39 with triangular carriage 23a, - 23b and 23c which is disposed movably on bars 22, on the base support 19c of the box-shaped frame 19a, 19b, 19c and 19d.
The bearing supports 25 and 27 can be moved back and forth by a spindle 21 provided with a right-hand thread 28b and a left-hand thread 26b. The bearing brackets in this case include transport nuts 26a and 28a which screw into the left-hand threaded portion 26b and into the right-hand threaded portion 28b of the spindle 21. The spindle drive s 'carried out by a motor 17. To clamp a smooth tube 6 in the retaining members 2 and 2a, the bearing supports 25 and 27 are first of all spaced apart from each other.
The tube to be shaped is then engaged in the device and the bearing supports are brought together again. Then, the tube is secured to the retaining member 2 (or 2a) by the clamping devices 3, 4, 5 (or 3a, 4a, 5a).
The triangular carriage 23a, 23b and 23c is then moved to the right with the aid of the motor 18 by a spindle 20, which is provided with a rectangular thread 24b and engages in a nut 24a fixed on the frame 23c , to such an extent that the rollers serving to conform the corrugation of the first part 13 of the tube occupy a suitable position. Then a heater 35, for example one or more oxyacetylene torches, is turned on and only the shaping zone of part 13 of the tube is first heated. At the same time, a motor 29 imparts a rotational movement to the tube 6.
When the conformation temperature, which may be between 900 and 1100 depending on the material, is reached, the motors 30
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
rotating in synchronism corresponding to the number of groups of shaping rollers chosen are started with the aid of a known electric pyrometer 36, then rotate the roller carriers 38 and successively press the shaping rollers of each group against the tube.
The discharge of the tube 6 takes place at the same time as its shaping to give the first corrugation in the part 13 of the tube using the shaping rollers 10,
11 -and 12 (10a, 11a and 12a; 10b, 11b and 12b), due to the fact that the bearing supports 25 and 27 are brought together in the direction of arrows B and B1 by the motor 17 which rotates the spindle 21 provided with the right-hand thread 26b and left-hand thread 28b according to the function determined previously.
To ensure the cooperation according to the function 'of the conformation by the rollers and of the delivery by the bearing supports 25 and 27, a control plate '32 (fig. 4) is connected in the example by questioning the shaft of training
39 of each roller carrier 38 and acts by fingers
40 of different lengths on \ sheets 33, placed side by side and mounted on an electrical circuit, of controllers 34 of known construction, then successively put the shaping rollers into action by starting the various motors 30 and the motor 17 and controlling the thus coupled advance movement of the bearing supports.
When all the shaping rollers have been put into action, that is to say when the various roller-holder yokes. 38 have rotated 3600 with the corresponding operating discs 32, the machine is stopped by the operating disc 32. The burner 35, the motor 29, the motors 30 and the motor 17 are, therefore, preferably stopped from 'a distribution box 16, while the carriage 23a, 23b, 23c is at the same time moved to the left with the roller-carrying clevises 38 by one step, that is to say one corrugation, by the engine set
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
running 18 via spindle 20, so that shaping of the next corrugation of part 15 of the tube can begin after annular pieces 8 have been engaged in corrugation 14.
The various motors and the control of the roller-holder yokes are switched on from the distribution box 16. An example of the assembly is shown in FIG. 6.
Three switches 18 ', 30', 29 'to be operated by hand are mounted on or in the distribution box. To start work, we first activate the interrupt 29 'by hand. The electric circuit of the motor 29, which turns the workpiece, is therefore closed via the relay 29 "and the motor 29 starts. The ignition relay R 6 of the burner 35, which is consequently on at the same time as the starting of the engine 29, is mounted in the circuit of this engine. Insofar as the engines 30, 30a, 30b rotating the roller carriers are not started automatically by means of the pyrometer 36, switch 30 'is then actuated by hand, which starts motors 30, 30a and 30b via relay 30 ".
The cams 32, 32 'fixed to the axis 39 of the roller-holder yoke 38 (and which, for greater clarity, are shown in FIG. 4 only in the form of a single disc 32 comprising fingers 40 ) also begin to rotate. They control the pushrods 33, 33 'subjected to the action of springs in the controller 34. The motor 17, which brings the bearing supports 25, 27 closer by means of the spindle 21, is started with a slight delay by relative to the motor 30 by the cam 32 ', the pusher 33' and via the relay 17 ", so that the delivery operation begins a little slightly later than the actuation of the shaping rollers 11. After 360 rotation of the cams 32, 32 ', the motors 30, 17 and 29 are switched off,
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
so that the whole device stops.
Switch 18 'is then actuated by hand and starts motor 18 via a relay 18 "thereby advancing the workpiece by a ripple width to produce the workpiece. The step by step forward movement of the triangular carriage 23 is controlled by a camshaft mounted on the support 19c of the base of the machine, the cams 60 of which cooperate with a stop finger 61 mounted on the mobile carriage 23 (Figs. 4 and 6) The cams 60 form the stops up to which the carriage 23 must advance after the shaping of a corrugation.
To easily engage the various annular parts in the corrugations, they can advantageously be advanced laterally by tilting towards the tube by support arms. These are supported at their lower end so as to be able to pivot and are arranged in front of and behind the machine. The annular parts in this case having a semicircular shape are held by the upper end of the support arms and, after pivoting engagement in the newly shaped corrugations, form a closed or nearly closed support ring. The support arms are then removed by pivoting and the annular pieces located in the corrugations are connected to each other by fish plates (not shown).
Fig. 5 shows a completely different type of embodiment for holding the tube to be shaped and for engaging the annular pieces. Here, it is not necessary to engage annular pieces to retain the shapes in all the folds or corrugations completed. The steel tube 6 to be shaped is pushed at one end onto the holder 2a and, instead of being blocked by the clamping device 3, 4, 5 mentioned above, it is gripped at the other. end by claws 49/50 which are formed by support arms 50 and carry at their front end
<Desc / Clms Page number 12>
annular pieces 49 preferably having a semi-circular shape. The annular pieces can be connected to the arms 50 in a removable manner.
The arms 50 are supported by bearings 51 on a drum 52 which is mounted so as to be able to rotate in the. support bearing 27 using shaft 1 and is rotated by motor 29 (Fig. 4).
Claws 49/50 are pressed against the tube to be shaped by a mechanical force, eg an electromagnet, or, like! shown in fig. 5, by a pneumatic or hydraulic piston 53 via a connecting rod 54, the tube thereby being centered and driven in rotation. The tube is further supported, for example on guide bars 59, in the drum 52, which thereby serves as a guide sleeve. The force for pushing the tube 6 is transmitted, on the one hand, immediately to the tube 6 by the bearing support '25 in the direction of arrow B1 and, on the other hand, in the direction B by the bearing support 27 and through the rotating drum 52, the bearings 51 and the claws 49 / 50.
The annular parts therefore serve at the same time as support and retaining members of the tube 6. The claws can at the same time also carry several annular parts, which are engaged in corrugations lying parallel side by side, to transmit the force more reliably. rotation and delivery (not shown).
As soon as the corrugation, in this case corrugation 15, is formed, the pistons 53 are driven to the right by compressed air from a duct 55, which opens the jaws 49/50. The latter are now advanced to the left by a corrugation width with the bearing support 27 and the drum 52 until they come to engage in the corrugation 15, the shaping of which has meanwhile been completed. This is done by opening the transport nut 26a to disengage it from the spindle 21 and rotating the latter. In this case, only the bearing bracket 27 is
<Desc / Clms Page number 13>
advanced in the direction of arrow B by the width of a corrugation, while the bearing support 25 remains stationary. The distribution duct 55 is then exhausted and a back pressure is established in a distribution duct 56.
As a result, the control pistons 53 move to the left and produce the closing of the claws 49/50 via the connecting rods 54, these claws engaging in the corrugation formed last, so that the next work pass can start. As a result of the use of the claws, the shaping process can be carried out completely automatically.
The type of embodiment according to FIG. 5 can also be double-acting for the accelerated manufacture of corrugated steel elements by having the same holding and engagement device as in FIG. 5 at each end of the tube to be shaped with in each case the use of two sets of shaping rollers, which has not been shown because this is easily understood.
Various modifications can moreover be made to the embodiments shown and described without departing from the scope of the invention.
