<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

The object of the present invention is a process and an apparatus for the treatment of crude oils, of the distillation fractions of these oils, or of similar dobbies with a view to obtaining greater quantities of light hydrocarbons.
'We know that in the petroleum industry these oils or their fractions are subjected to heaters with or without pressure varying from 2 to 70 Kgs effective producing what has been called the' split or the "oraoking" of molecules.
This cracking can be thermal or catalytic depending on whether there is the absence or presence of catalysts promoting the reaction in quantity or quality of products collected.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Generally, in the latter case, the heating takes place in an exchanger or a tubular furnace, while the actual reaction takes place in an enclosure (reaction chamber) in the presence of the appropriate catalyst. prayed.
The new process, object of the invention, is free from certain drawbacks of commercial processes, constituted above all by the complexity of the apparatus, the need to continuously regenerate the catalyst in service, the considerable quantity of hydrocarbons too light.
It is noteworthy, in particular, in that it consists in placing the catalyzing material in the reaction furnace, thus bringing about the final heating by and in the presence of this material.
According to one characteristic of the invention, the catalyst is placed in particular by way of example in the tubes of the reaction furnace, in the form of a deposit in the bottom of each of them.
Isothermal cracking is thus carried out, since the endothermic scission reaction being constantly supplied with heat energy, the catalyst cannot give rise to condensation phenomena.
In other cases and according to another oaraotéristi- of the invention, the catalyst is introduced into the inlet tube to the heating furnace via petroleum (or petroleum fraotions), the flow of which distributes the catalyst. in the entire oven.
One of the essential characteristics of the invention is indeed that the oatalyst employed is in a physical form such that it cannot fix the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
carbon, the activated contact surface is thus constantly preserved.
We were thus surprised to note, against all expectations, that the carbon split from the molecules was evacuated in the form of carbureted aerosls out of the apparatus, which eliminates pollution and, consequently, the need regeneration of the catalyst thus providing considerable simplification.
In addition, for its high yield in commercial products, it requires only moderate effective pressure, which leaves the benefit of the preceding simplification intact.
As a catalyst, aluminum, magnesium, iron, nickel, copper, chromium, platinum, etc., their oxides or their salts alone or in combination can be used as the metal.
However, the invention also aims, by way of example, at an apparatus for this remarkable practice, in particular in that it comprises a reaction furnace provided with a continuous system, for example tubular for the passage. crude oil or any other treated material to be subjected to craoking, the elements or tubes of this system preferably being parallel, occupying a position other than the vertical and containing in their bottom a determined catalyst in the divided, pulverulent or associate.
Other characteristics of the invention will result from the description which follows:
In the accompanying drawing, given only by way of example: Figure 1 is a schematic view through the end
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
a reaction furnace which can be used for carrying out the invention; - Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of a bubbling tower according to the invention; - Figure 3 is a detail view of the heating coil.
According to the example shown, the reaction furnace used comprises a series of tubes or parallel elements 1, 1 ', 1 "... interconnected by tabular sections 2, 2', 2" ... The first tube 1 is also connected by a section 3 to an inlet tube 4 for petroleum or similar material, while the last tube 1 is connected to the tube 5 for discharging the processed products. A collector 6 can be provided on the tubes or elements for taking a pyrometer or injecting products already treated.
In the example chosen, the tubes 1 are all substantially horizontal,
At its upper part, the tube 4 has at 7 an orifice allowing the introduction of the catalyst directly 'into the oil, the flow of which drives it into the tubes 1 1 1
On the front part of the oven it is possible to affix, if desired, a heating device designed to produce superheated steam used to change the product leaving the oven through pipe 5. this device may include a steam inlet 8 , a tank 24, a superheating coil 9 and an outlet, of superheated steam '10.
It is also possible to provide for water purges 11 and 12, as well as a
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
pressure in 13.
Of course, care will be taken to provide appropriate taps at 14, 15, 16 and 17 for example.
FIG. 2 shows a so-called enrichment or paddling tower. It comprises a body 18, for example of cylindrical shape. In the body was a tube 19 and two fittings 20,21 respectively at the top and bottom. The first, 20, is used to exit the treated materials, while the second, 21, is used to take a pressure gauge. In the bottom of the body 18 there may be a heating coil 22 which can for example be connected at 23 and 24 to the pipes 8 and 10 of the coil 9. the operation of the installation is simple.
We order by admitting into the furnace, through the tuba 4, the crude oil or the similar material to be treated.
Care will have been taken, beforehand, to place the catalyst in the bottom of the tubes 1 of the furnace. If no catalyst is contained in these tubes 1, the stopper closing the orifice 7 is opened and any catalyst reduced to a substantially powdery state is poured into it. this catalyst is carried by the flow of petroleum and experience has shown that not only are deposits formed in tubes 1, but that these deposits take place in all the tubes included in the furnace,
The materials collected at. the outlet 5 are directed towards the tube 19 emerging from the column 18.
As some condensation always takes place, the lower part of this last column contains a liquid deposit in which the gases coming from the tube 19 bubbling before escaping through the connection 20.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
As soon as the processed material leaves the column
18, they undergo the usual grinding, adjustment and refining treatments.
It turned out from numerous experiments that the heating temperature could be, without inconvenience, included between 400 and 6000 0., while 'the effective pressure in the furnace could drop, without inconvenience, to 0. 1 Kg per cm2 and reach approximately 1.5 kg / cm2 - 2.5 kg / cm2.
We will now give a specific example of an embodiment.
400 kg of crude oil residue from Arabia having a density of 926 was processed. It was flowed through the furnace at a rate of -50 kg / hour.
Divided aluminum was used as the catalyst.
At the end of the operation, 92% by weight of the materials used were collected, decomposing as follows: - 86% of a mixture comprising gasoline, naphtha and light fractions of gas oil; @ 6% heavy eyelash fuel. There was therefore in all only 8% of non-condensable gas
It should be noted that the catalyst can be employed in various suitable forms. It may, in particular, be in the form of more or less large pieces of associated powder, mixed with inert bodies.
Each reactor being characterized by the presence of several elements connected in series, in parallel or series-parallel, each element being heated
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
individually any variation of time, contact and effective temperature can be made, depending on the requirements of the load and the desired products without having to modify the equipment.
Of course, the invention is in no way limited to the embodiments shown and described which have been given only by way of example.
