<Desc/Clms Page number 11>
<Desc/Clms Page number 12>

The machine can be adjusted, by a change in the gear ratio between the main and indexing cam mechanisms, to allow the change in the composition of the filled wafers produced. The indexing cam mechanism performs one cycle of operations per n cycles of operations of the main cam mechanism, where n is the number of cream-coated sheets in the filled wafer, suppresses the stop operation during n - 1 main cam mechanism operation cycles and suppresses table operation during the last main cam mechanism operation cycle.
The gear ratio between a main camshaft carrying the main cam mechanism, and a camshaft

index bearing the indexing carne mechanism is 1/1 for 2-layer wafers, 1/2 for 3-layer wafers, 1/3 for 4-layer wafers and so on.
In the case of 2-layer wafers, a non-cream wafer sheet is fed between the non-cream wafer sheet fingers on each cycle of main camshaft operations, the table is held stationary and the stop is stopped. removed with each cycle of the main camshaft. A sheet of wafers without cream is placed, by successive openings of two sets of fingers, on each sheet of wafers covered with cream stopped by the stop.
In the case of 3-layer filled wafers, wafer sheets without cream are fed to the fingers for sheets without cream in every other cycle of the main camshaft, the table only acts during the first cycle of each pair of successive cycles and the stop is removed during the second cycle of the pair.
Similarly, for 4-layer wafers, a sheet of non-cream wafers is fed between the non-cream wafer fingers by three cycles of the main camshaft, the table runs for the first two cycles only and stop n 'is not withdrawn until the third cycle.
Preferably, alignment fingers are provided, and operate on each cycle of the main camshaft to correct the position of the sheets held by the support fingers and / or on the conveyor past the stop.
One embodiment of a stacking machine according to the invention will be described in detail by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:

The layering machine shown is intended to form part of an installation for the automatic manufacture of filled wafers, described in a patent of the same date of the
Applicant. This installation comprises a selection and distance group, comprising a selector conveyor, a part of the descending strand of which is shown at 10 in fig.l serving to derive each mth sheet of wafers from a series of wafer sheets ;? continuously advancing and exiting a wafer baking machine, m being a small whole number exceeding unity.
The layering machine shown is intended to make 4-layer wafers, but can be adjusted as will be described later, to produce 2, 3, 5 or more filled wafers. the selection and distance group is also adjustable. The selection conveyor 10 periodically advances a non-cream wafer sheet 11 and places it between the fingers 12. The non-cream sheet 11 then falls, as shown in fig. 1 from the fingers 12 into the support fingers 13. .

above, by a conveyor 14 (fig.1) to the conveyor 15 of the coating machine.
The general principle of the machine will first be described with reference to FIG. 1 and to the fi! s. 7 and 8. the machine comprises a stop 17, against which the sheets of wafers covered with cream are successively fined by the conveyor 15.
In figs. 1 and 7A, the first of the sheets covered with cream 16a necessary for making filled wafers, is shown as arriving in plsce against the stop. At this time, the creamless sheet 11 has fallen from the fingers 12 into the support fingers 13. The fingers 13 then open, as shown in FIG. 7B, to drop sheet 11 onto sheet 16a. A table 18 then rises to lift the superimposed sheets 11, 16a and place them in the support fingers 13, which close to support these two sheets, as can be seen in fig.7C.
The table 18 then descends to return to the next sheet, 16b covered with cream, to get into position against the stop 17, as in FIG. 7D. The support fingers 13 open again to allow the sheets 11, 16a to fall on the sheet 16b (fig.7E).
The table 18 rises again to lift the three superimposed sheets 11, 16a, 16b in the support fingers 13, which then close to support them (fig.8A). The table 18 then descends to allow the next sheet 16c, covered with cream, to be brought to the stop 17 (fig.8B) The support fingers 13 then open, as in fig. 8C, by allowing the three sheets 11, 16a and 16b to fall on the sheet 16c to complete the formation of the 4-layer cored block, indicated at 160. At the same time, the creamless sheet 11 'for the next block is brought between them. fingers 12, as in the drawing.
The stopper 17 is then lowered, as in fig.8D, to allow the conveyor 15 to advance the cored block 160 and the fingers 12 open to drop the non-cream sheet 11 'into the support fingers 13. Stop 17 then resumes its place (fig. SE) to stop the first sheet, covered with cream 16 'for the next block. This opera series

wafer sheets, while these are supported by the fingers 13.
The creamless sheets are guided into the doists 12 by a conveyor belt 73 (fi.l) which extends past the end sprockets 74 of the selector conveyor 10 and passes over a nose 75. It may be more advantageous than the conveyor 73 passes the leaves without cream to the fingers 12 at a level lower than that of the left shaft 57, for example in a horizontal direction,: and to make this arrangement possible, the support fingers 13 on the side of the machine ° =, next to the transporter 73, are elbows ,, retort can be seen at 59 in fig. 5.
Two fingers 12 for leaves without cream are provided at the front of the machine and two at the rear, each pair of fingers being joined by a shoulder 76 to support the sides of the leaves without cream and being fixed to a rod 77 , journaling in the frame of the machine and extending perpendicular to the rods 57. The rods 77 are joined to each other by an articulation constituted by arms 78 (fig.5) fixed to the rods and joined by an articulation 79. One of the rods 77 carries an arm 80, coupled by a connecting rod 81 to a lever 82, pivoting on the rod 62 and bearing on a cam wedge 83 cooperating with a cam 84 on the camshaft of indexing 20. The synchronization of the opening of the fingers 12 for the sheets without cream is indicated at J in FIG. 6.
It should be noted here that the fingers 12 are shown, for greater clarity, in FIGS. 7 and 8, as moving in the same direction as the support fingers 13, when in fact, as shown in Figs. 1 and 5, they move in a direction perpendicular to that of the support fingers 13.-
The cored blocks, after having passed the stop 17, pass, 'on a belt 85 (fig. 1) driven by a toothed wheel 86 (fig. 4) on the shaft 27 (fig 3) by a chain ocmmnde ( not shown).
As the thicket blocks move the
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
along the belt 85, they are subjected to compression by an upper belt 87 pressed towards the lias by (the springs 88. The cored blocks then pass over another conveyor 89 which drives them towards a cutter.
In fig. 6, the references 7A, 7B ... 8A, 8B indicate the relationship between the positions of two camshafts and the positions of the members that they control, shown in the corresponding figures 7 and 8. As already seen. explained the machine shown in the figures is intended to manufacture 4-layer flux-cored frets, the main camshaft 19 making three turns per revolution of the index camshaft 20.
If you want to make wafers filled with
2 layers, the gear ratio is changed to 1: 1, with the result that the rocker 54 prevents the slow moving of the table 18 with each cycle of the main camshaft 19 and the rocking member 47 is rendered inoperative at each cycle of the main camshaft, thus making it possible to lower the stop 17 at each cycle of the main camshaft. Stop 17 is therefore retracted shortly after position 7B of FIG. 6, thus allowing a 2-layer filled wafer, shown in FIG. 7B, to exit the machine. in this case, the fingers 12 are open during each cycle of the main camshaft.
In the case of a 3-layer wafer, the index camshaft 20 rotates for every two turns of the main camshaft 19. Therefore, the table 18 is free to move during the first cycle. of the main camshaft, but is blocked by the rocking member 54 during the second cycle, while the stop 17 is released so as to allow it to descend during the second cycle and immediately after the position 7E on the fig. 6, which allows a wafer with 3 canches, shown in fig. 7E to exit the machine. In this case, the fingers 12 open during every second cycle of the main camshaft.
Of course, the machine can be arranged to produce filled wafers of 5, 6 or more layers, by
<Desc / Clms Page number 12>
adjusting the ratio of the gears of the two camshafts so that the index camshaft makes one revolution by 4, 5 turns or more of the main camshaft.
Although the machine has been shown as being provided with its own drive motor 21, it can also be driven by any other claim of a complete installation, in order to obtain perfect synchronization of an installation for the production of wafers. stuffed.
In conclusion, it should be noted that the machine according to the invention is capable of producing superpositions of other thin and flat objects and can obviously be supplied with sheets of wafers coated with substances other than cream, for example. caramel, chocolate or jam.
On the other hand, the machine according to the invention can be used to make wafers filled from sheets covered with cream and sheets covered with caramel. etc. In this case, the fingers for sheets without cream are fed with uncovered filled wafers and a series of cream coated wafers, coated with caramel on their upper surfaces, are brought to the stop.
