<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

In the process of ground freezing which finds its application in mining works and civil engineering works, there is generally, around the excavation or the well to be dug, a certain number of boreholes in which a liquid is passed. artificially cooled.
This cold liquid circulates over the entire height of the water table to be frozen for the duration of the shaft sinking work and this until an enclosure of frozen ground is formed, under the shelter of which the excavation takes place.

During this work, we find great interest in being able to distribute the cold to very specific places so as to be able to reinforce the wall of the frozen ground at points that would be

.but they pretent, 3: .. convé.iant, either: dàtrs accompanied by mechanical complications making their application too expensive, or to be effective.
The present invention aims to obtain the same result in a simple and economical way,
For this purpose) a freezing column system, essentially comprising a central tube, called a down tube, and a tube outside the previous one, called a freezer tube, so as to create an annular space between these tubes; for the circulation of a freezing liquid, further comprises a riser tube for the cold liquid, the base of the down tube and that of the riser tube being in relative positions adjustable in height, so that the zone of the freezer tube, between these two bases and intended to receive the maximum of cold, that is to say of variable length.
According to one embodiment, the freezer tube is closed off by a cover allowing the passage of the descent and rise tubes, as well as the height adjustment thereof.
The down tube and the riser tube will be made of a material that is a poor conductor of heat or lined with such a material, for example a plastic material.
Other details and features of the invention will emerge from the description given below by way of nonlimiting example and with reference to the accompanying drawing.
The figure schematically shows a freezer tube provided with a drop tube and a riser tube.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The system according to the invention comprises a drop tube 1 for the cold liquid placed in the freezer tube 2. This cold liquid therefore descends in the tube 1 to the base of the latter and then rises to exit via a riser tube. 3. Downpipe 1 and riser 3 will be height adjustable. As, according to the invention, the tubes 1 and 3 are made of a material which does not conduct much heat, for example a plastic material, it follows that only the height of the ground between the bases 4 and 5 of the tubes 1 and 3 is subjected to the action of the cooling current.
As the tubes 1 and 3 are movable in height, the portion of land intended to receive the maximum amount of cold will therefore be variable in length according to the goer, the adjustment of the tubes being able to be done before the start of the excavation or even during of it.
It is obvious that the zones of the freezer tube 2 located outside the space limited by the bases 4 and 5 of the tubes 1 and 3 are in contact with a stagnant liquid and can therefore only receive a very small percentage. of the cold delivered to the circuit. The intended goal, namely the distribution of cold in a determined space, is therefore achieved.
It should be noted that the arrangement covered by the invention has another important advantage consisting in the very great simplicity of the heads of the freezer tubes 2. These heads are here reduced to simple lids 6 which provide passage for the tubes 1 and 3. This saves installation time and money, as well as a lower risk of disturbances during work.
It is obvious that the invention is not limited to the details given but that many variations are possible without departing from the scope of the present patent.
