Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 8>

   The main patent relates to a temperature dependent control device comprising an adjustable actuator which is actuated by a temperature dependent expansion element.

   The present addition relates to a mixing battery, in which the control device of the main patent is used. The mixing battery is used in this case to produce a stream of mixed water of predetermined temperature from a stream of hot water and a stream of cold water. The

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 The temperature of the mixed water is measured in this case by a thermometric or temperature sensor and is used for valve control.

   The mixing battery is characterized by at least one shutter body comprising each time, arranged axially in series, a hot water chamber, a mixed water chamber and a cold water chamber. the mixing chamber being able to be closed with respect to the two other chambers by an axially movable valve, by a thermal feeler and a device for transmitting the pressure to exert on the two valves a control force acting in the axial direction from the cold water chamber in the direction of the hot water chamber, as well as by an adjustable spring for exerting an axial opposing force and by a measuring device which can be operated by hand to vary the axial distance between the connected valves between them.

   Two embodiments of the object of the addition are shown, by way of non-limiting examples, in the accompanying drawing.

   The mixing coil of fig.l consists of the shutter body 21, a cold water inlet pipe 23, a hot water inlet pipe 22 and a mixed water outlet pipe 24.

   The hot water pipe 22 opens inside the shutter body 21 into the chamber 25, which is closed, on the one hand, by the seal 26 and, on the other hand, by the valve 27. The latter comprises a hollow rod 28 passing through the hot water chamber 25, carrying the seal 26 mounted on it in a liquid-tight manner, then extending beyond the chamber 25 into the spring chamber 29 , in which it carries a plate 30 against which a spring 31 exerts its pressure. The other end of the spring 31 (not visible) bears on a

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 threaded sleeve 32 which is threaded onto the shutter body 21 and can be screwed by rotation on the latter to adjust by the axial displacement thus produced the pressure of the spring 31 on the spring plate 30.

   A mark 33, provided on the threaded sleeve 32, and a graduated scale, arranged on the shutter body 21, allow the reproducible adjustment of the elastic pressure on the plate 30.

   A ring 12, which can be screwed onto the rod 28 and serves as a holding and fixing member for the seal 26, is provided below the spring plate 30. The seal itself is made of a material flexible ensuring the seal or has a layer which does not have to be elastic. This layer forms a bead which moves by rolling in the case of axial sliding. This arrangement makes it possible to obtain that the rod 28 can move, in the direction of the length in a manner completely free of resistance, and of friction, the chambers 25 and 29 however remaining absolutely sealed with respect to one another. other. The distance separating two opposite points of the bead, for example points 65 and 66, is in this case substantially equal to the effective diameter of the valve plate 27.

   This is necessary so that a change in pressure in chamber 25 cannot cause the switch to slide longitudinally.

  The effective attack surfaces in both directions, that is to say upwards and downwards, have the same size, so that the forces produced by the pressure prevailing in the chamber are suppressed.

   The hot water chamber 25 opens into the mixing chamber 34 via a shutter which can be closed by the plate 27, this mixing chamber 34 communicating with the outlet duct 24. A hollow body 35, which forms the chamber of control of the expansion element, is provided inside the mixing chamber 34. The hollow body 35

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 is movable in the center with respect to the valve plate 27 and this by means of a rotating rod 36 which passes through the hollow rod 28 and which can be maneuvered from outside the body 21 to the using button 37.

   When turning this knob 37, the hollow body 35 slides in a guide fixed to the valve plate 27. the mixing chamber 34 is closed on the side opposite the valve plate 27 by a second valve plate 38 which is rigidly fixed. to the hollow body 35 and which rises from its seat with this hollow body 35 when the button 57 is turned.

   The valve plate 38 closes the mixing chamber 34 @ relative to a chamber 39 communicating with the cold water inlet 23, the opposite closing member of this chamber 39 being, constituted by a sealing member 40 which is airtight mounted on a hollow sleeve 41 or on the inner wall of the chamber 39 corresponding to the upper seal 26. The hollow sleeve 41 passes through the chamber 39 and can move axially in the same direction. a guide 42 of the valve plate 38 with respect to the latter and to the body 21 of the obtuialteur The inner chamber 43 of the hollow body 35 communicates through a very narrow bore 44 with the channel 45 of the sleeve 41 which opens out, on its side, through side holes in a chamber 46.

   This chamber 46 delimited, on the one hand, by the sealing member 47 fixed to the sleeve 41 and, on the other hand, by the end wall of the body 21 forms the control chamber and the transmission system. pressure with the channel 45, the bore 44 and the inner chamber 43. A chamber 48 which communicates with the atmosphere through orifices 49 formed in the body, 21 of the shutter, is formed between the two sealing members 40 and 47 fixed to the sleeve 41. The sleeve 41 can slide axially not only in the guide 42, but also in a bore 50 in the bottom of the body 21 of the shutter.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

   The chamber 46, the channel 45, the bore 44 and a part of the inner chamber 43 are filled with an expansion liquid, for example freon, so that a pressure prevails in the upper part of the chamber 43. of wet vapor corresponding to the temperature prevailing in the mixing chamber 34, Only a very low transmission of heat to the channel 45 and to the chamber 46 takes place in this case through the very narrow bore 44 which here forms a "bridge thermal".

   The feed stream to the mixing chamber 34 is stopped, in the rest position shown, by the two valve plates 27 and 38, the rotating rod 36 pushing, on the one hand, the valve plate 38 downwards. against its seat via the thread 51, then, on the other hand, the valve plate 27 against its seat using the collar 52. When the button 37 is turned in the opening direction, the thread 51 is screwed into the hollow body 35 and the rod 28, subjected to the pressure of the spring 31, follows the collar 52, so that the valve plate 27 rises from its seat, that hot water enters the mixing chamber 34 from line 22 and escapes through line 24.

   The quantity of water which comes out can be regulated in this case by the rotary knob 37 by opening more or less the valve located between the chambers 25 and 34. Given that by giving these chambers 25 and 39 a suitable shape we take take care that the pressure exerted by the water in the conduits 22 and 23 is compensated relative to the rod 28 and the sleeve 41, only the pressure exerted by the spring 31 still acts on the valve plates 27 and 38.

   Shortly after opening the valve plate 27, the water flowing into the mixing chamber 34 is still cold.

  However, as soon as hot water passes through the mixing chamber 34, the control chamber 43 begins to act, the

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 wet vapor pressure rises in the inner chamber 43 and is transmitted hydraulically in the chamber 46, then produces an increase in pressure on the membrane 47, and consequently, an antagonistic pressure being transmitted on the rod 28 through the sleeve 41 and the guide 42 against the action exerted by the spring 31.

   In the case of a determined temperature depending on the setting of the spring 31 in the mixing chamber 43, the wet vapor pressure slightly exceeds the pressure of the spring 31, so that the hollow body 35 slides with the plate. valve 38 in the direction of chamber 25 whereby cold water begins to flow from chamber 39 into mixing chamber 34 and the hot water supply to chamber 25 is choked. Consequently, for a given temperature of the water mixed in the temperature sensor, a state of equilibrium is established between the pressure of the spring 31 and the pressure of wet vapor in the control chamber 43.

   By varying the spring pressure by means of the threaded sleeve 32, the temperature, at which this equilibrium state is produced, therefore the temperature of the mixed water exiting the conduit 24, can be set to a desired value which is set. automatically and is maintained by the described control device.

   For high temperature differences, it is advisable to provide in addition in the described mixing coil devices with the aid of which it is possible to obtain that the probe or feeler actually comes into contact only with the already mixed water. These members are constituted in the mixing coil of fig. 1 by two substantially semi-circular partitions 54 which are arranged symmetrically with respect to the outlet duct 24 of the mixed water at the level of the end surfaces of the probe. cylindrical 35. We thus obtain that the hot and cold water cannot come directly into the outlet duct, but come first of all on the side opposite to this outlet 24 in the direction of

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 arrows.

   Intimate mixing takes place at this location, so that the peripheral surface of the probe is effectively in contact with water having the temperature of the mixture. In addition, the end surfaces of the probe 35 may include insulating elements 55, so that cold and hot water cannot act directly on the probe.

   Fig. 2 shows another example of a mixing drum which differs in certain respects from the mixing drum shown in fig. 1, In the two figures, the same elements are designated by the same references.

   A mixing battery of the add-on construction type is preferably constructed so that the actuating buttons are on the right in the case of a horizontal arrangement. However, since the hot water pipe: is most often arranged to the left of the cold water pipe (when looking from the coil), this result cannot be obtained by a symmetrical changeover of the mixing drum described in fig.l. The mixing coil described in the following is suitably transformed so that it is suitable for connection to normally arranged hot and cold water conduits and yet has the operating handles or knobs. on the right side.

   The mixing coil of fig. 2 is also constituted by three chambers 25, 34 and 39, which are arranged axially in series and which are separated by the valve plates 38 and 27. The two outer chambers are again closed by the sealing members 26 and 40. The direction of closing of the valve plates 27 and 38 is in this case directed from the outside to the inside, since otherwise the actuating buttons could not have been arranged on the right side of the valve.

   In view of the combination of pressures, discs

 <Desc / Clms Page number 8>

 60 are arranged on the axial valve guide and deflect the water jet. These discs have the effect that the water passing through the mixing chamber gives up its kinetic energy to them, so that the blow or shock of return exerted on the valve plates is compensated, that is to say that ' no force directed longitudinally acts on the axis under the action of the current.

   The probe 35 is in this case in the outlet pipe for the already mixed water. It is thus obtained that the probe can effectively take only the temperature of the mixed water and that the adjustment is therefore carried out according to the effective mixing temperature. Deviating surfaces may further be provided in the outlet duct 34 and cause the mixed water to rotate in this outlet with a view to better equalization of the temperature. In fig '2, these surfaces are shown at 62.

   An insulating layer 61 is further disposed around the inlet conduit 59 leading into the probe 35 and is to prevent action of unmixed water on the probe.

   The operation of the installation described is analogous to that of fig.l. When the temperature of the hot water rises for a desired determined temperature of the mixture, the agent or element in the probe 35 first expands, which increases the pressure in the chamber 46.

   As a result, the spring 31 is compressed a little and the valve plate 38 continues to move slightly downwards in the representation of fig. 2, so that the

   The devices described have, on the one hand, the advantage of good use of space, and then, on the other hand, all the closing functions are carried out only by two valves, unlike the devices already known.

  The two valves can be closed by varying the distance between the valve plates so that, on the one hand, water cannot come out and, on the other hand, water cannot pass from the pipe. hot water inlet in the cold water inlet pipe or vice versa, if there is a different pressure in these two pipes.

   Various modifications can moreover be made to the embodiments, shown and described in detail, without departing from the scope of the invention.
