 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 ammonia, a property which, quite surprisingly, makes this substance suitable for practically solving the problem posed of the preservation of corrosion in steam power stations operating under at least critical pressures.

   This newly discovered property of ammonia is of considerable economic importance, and the proposal which is at the basis of the invention now consists in adding ammonia to the operating agent which circulates in the steam power plants of which steam generators operate at least under critical pressure and at a temperature of at least 600 C.

   Other characteristics of the process according to the invention will emerge from the description below as well as from the drawing, in which are given examples relating to the execution of measures preserving corrosion in a steam power plant schematically represented. .

   The figure shows the steam power plant only in its essential parts. The operating agent, through the tubular system 1 of the steam generator, designated by the reference 2 and operating under critical or hypercritical pressure, or in the vicinity of the critical pressure, arrives at installation 3 formed, where appropriate, by a turbine mounted upstream and a main turbine, which installation operates a generator 4.

   The operating medium expanded in the turbines is again superheated in the reheater 5 and then fed to the medium pressure stage 6 and to the low pressure stage 7 of the group of turbines operating the generator 8. It is also possible to provide a further reheating in the reheater 9, which can be connected if necessary between these two turbine stages. The operating agent leaving the low pressure turbine descends into the neck of the tower 10 and is sent to the turbine. through the pump 11 passing through the heater 12 and the degasser 13 in the start-up tank or in the feed water tank 14

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 from where it is again pumped by means of 13 feed water pump 15 to be sent to the steam generator. 2.

   To protect against corrosion, sufficient ammonia in liquid form or in gaseous form is added at appropriate points in the installation to the operating agent passing through it, so that an ammonia content results. preferably amounting to about 1 to 2 mg in the feed eu. A suitable point for the addition of ammonia is, for example, between the condensate pump 11 and the heater 12. It is designated by the reference 16. Another point, designated by the. reference 17, is located between the feed water tank 14 and the feed water pump 15.

   The feed water tank 14 itself constitutes a preferred place of addition of ammonia denoted by the reference 18. The addition of ammonia is not limited to the quantities and points above. above indicated. On the contrary, these can be modified or added at other points of the power plant, for example in the turbine group.

     The corrosion-preserving action of the ammonia added from the simplest mainene to the liquid operating medium is particularly noticeable in the turbine parts arranged downstream of the reheater as well as in the return line. of the condensation product.

  The ammonia losses circulating in the steam power plant are very low because they generally only carry the usual flow losses and because no decomposition of the ammonia occurs, even in the superheater tulies. possibly carried to the cherry route, as is on the contrary the case with the other volatile amines which must consequently be constantly added new to the operating magnet.
