La. présente invention est relative au procédé d'élaboration de l'acier par affinage pneumatique de la fonte au moyen de gaz ou de mélanges gazeux oxydants dans des convertisseurs à fonds munis de tuyères et/ou, de trous de soufflage;
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Cette pression élevée peut être obtenue et maintenue en obs- truant partiellement l'orifice de sortie des fumées par un dispositif quel- conque et en augmentant éventuellement la pression de soufflage;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
Il a en outre été trouvé particulièrement avantageux de combla ner le procédé décrit ci-dessus avec un procédé de récupération des fumées de conversion et spécialement avec le procédé de récupération décrit dans un brevet précédent;

The present invention relates to the process for producing steel by pneumatic refining of cast iron by means of oxidizing gas or gas mixtures in bottom converters provided with nozzles and / or blast holes;
The process for producing steel by pneumatic refining consists essentially in supplying a gas or a. oxidizing gas mixture in contact with the metal bath to be treated contained in a suitable container, called converter.
In the enclosure of this converter, located above the metal bath, a certain pressure is normally established during the conversion operation, at which the steelmakers have endeavored until pre-
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
feels to give and keep the value as low as possible. One of the reasons for this precaution is to avoid the fixation, in the processed steel, of large quantities of nitrogen, the absorption of which by the bath is known to vary according to the pressure prevailing above it. .
The use, more and more frequent at the present time, of oxidizing gases or gas mixtures practically free of nitrogen, has certainly considerably reduced the danger of absorption of this latter gas by the metal bath being prepared and has made considerable progress in the converter steelmaking industry. But a new problem then arose for the steelmaker. If the latter had at his disposal an effective means of reducing the nitrogen content of steel to lower and lower values, he had no interest in continuing his efforts in this single path without striving also to reduce the phosphorus content of the metal produced.
Many methods recommended for this purpose seek to advance the dephosphorization and to cause it to occur before or at least during the decarburization phase so as to remove the phosphorus from the bath when the metal is still protected against. oxidation by the presence of carbon.
Most of these recommended procedures did not give the results their authors expected. Although some have resulted in offal sowing the phosphorus content to fairly low values, this has only come at the cost of considerable technological complications.
The subject of the present invention is a method which overcomes these drawbacks.
The process which is the subject of the invention consists essentially in that, during the production of the steel in a bottom converter provided with nozzles and / or blast holes through which a mixture of oxygen and oxygen is blown. water vapor and / or a mixture of oxygen and carbon dioxide, a high pressure is produced and maintained in the chamber of the converter located above the metal bath.
This high pressure can be obtained and maintained by partially obstructing the smoke outlet orifice by any device and by possibly increasing the blowing pressure;
It was found that interesting results were already obtained by
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
maintaining a pressure of the order of one atmosphere above the metal bath, but in principle the effects are all the more marked the higher the pressure achieved. It should also be noted that the blowing of the mixtures at high pressure can be done without great expense, both for oxygen and for water vapor and carbon dioxide.
The use, as refining gas, of mixtures practically free from nitrogen and the influence of the existing pressure above the bath produced on the reactions taking place within it, make it possible to obtain a Low nitrogen and low phosphorus steel without technological complications and without drawbacks.
It has further been found particularly advantageous to fill the process described above with a process for recovering conversion fumes and especially with the process for recovering described in a previous patent;
by the author of the present invention, a process characterized essentially by capturing the gases escaping from the converter before their combustion in the atmosphere, in that this capturing takes place without the aid of a vacuum cleaner but under the resulting pressure - from blowing by keeping the collection pipes under pressure by permanently connecting them to a gasometer or tank at constant pressure and / or by blowing part of the oxygen on and / or in the bath from the top of the conversion apparatus and / or by injecting into and / or on the bath one or more dephosphorizing agents sprayed and conveyed by the fluid blown through the bath. bottom and / or from above.
This combination of processes has the advantage:.
1) to reduce the projections to a minimum as a result of the decrease in the actual volume of the gases used and the possible insufflation of powdered dephosphorants:
2) to improve the heat balance because the equilibrium of the reaction
CO + 1/2 0 = CO2 is displaced in the direction of the formation of carbon dioxide under the influence of an increase in pressure 'and the possible injection of oxygen from above:
3) to delay decarburization with respect to dephosphorization because the equilibrium of the reaction FeO + C = Fe + CO is shifted in the direction of a decomposition of carbon monoxide under the influence of the increase pressure while this remains without influence on the reaction 5 FeO + 2P = P2O5 + 5 Fe, the benefit of this delayed decarburization being safeguarded by an acceleration of the formation
