<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

The present invention relates to a device for protecting an electrical installation supplied by a circuit of which at least one conductor is provided with an individual overcurrent breaking device, for example with a fuse.
The aim of the present invention is to provide a protection device which is automatically put into service when an individual switching device opens the circuit supplying the electrical installation, the latter possibly being an arrangement of electrical devices as well. that, quite simply, lies an engine.
For this purpose, the device according to the invention comprises at least one coil mounted on a magnetic circuit and connected
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
in parallel with the aforementioned individual switching device, so that the coil is only energized when the aforementioned device is cut.
According to a particular embodiment of the object of the invention, the coil connected in parallel with the switching device is the excitation coil of an electromagnet whose movable armature controls an arrangement of scours.
The emergency arrangement can therefore be either mechanically or electrically controlled. In the latter case, the aforementioned electric lover is that of a relay whose contact, normally open, is interposed in the power supply circuit of the emergency arrangement and closes when the individual device is switched on. chopped off.
In the case described above, the protection of an installation is achieved by putting into service a shaking arrangement which can be an arrangement of devices or, simply, a standby engine. In other cases of application, the protection may be limited to taking out of service only one motor.
As we know, when one of the three phases of a circuit supplying a three-phase motor is cut off, the latter continues to run. In this case, the other two phases, which remain in service, are traversed by a current which is appreciably stronger than the normal current and which can cause damage to the motor winding.
The device according to the present invention avoids this drawback. To this end, according to another particular embodiment of the object of the invention, in the case where the installation is a three-phase motor, the magnetic circuit is provided with three identical and independent coils, each of which is connected. in parallel with one of the aforementioned switching devices, so that in the event of a phase breaking by one of these devices, the coil
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
a current passes through it which induces in the other two coils a current which is added to that passing through the devices which have remained in service and causes the latter to be cut off.
Other details and features of the inversion will emerge from the description of the drawings appended hereto. and which represent, by way of non-limiting examples, two formal embodiments of the object of the invention.
FIG. 1 represents the diagram of a device for protecting an electrical installation comprising a three-phase motor.
FIG. 2 represents the diagram of a device for carrying an electrical installation comprising a continuous service motor and a continuous backup motor.
In the various figures, the same reference notations designate similar elements.
The protection device shown in Figure 1 is three-phase mounted on a circuit / 1 supplying a three-phase motor via a bypass 2. According to current practice, the motor 3 is protected against overcurrents by fuses 4, 5 and 6 mounted on each of the three phases.
As is known, in the event of a cut, for example, of fuse 6, motor 3, supplied by the two remaining phases, continues to rotate. Each of these two phases conducts a current significantly greater than normal current but insufficient to blow fuses 4 and 5 protecting these phases. The motor bearing being traversed by an exaggerated current, becomes hot and can suffer serious damage.
The protection device forming the subject of the present invention comprises a magnetic circuit 7 on which three coils 8, 9 and 10, @ identical to one another are wound.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
In normal operation, the current flowing through coils 8, 9 and 10 is practically zero, the resistance of the coils being greater than that of fuses 4, 5 and 6 In the event of a fault caused for example by the cutting of fuse 6, all the current flowing through the corresponding phase of the motor passes through the coil
10 and induced in each of the coils 8 and 9 an intense current, partial the resistance of the circuits / formed, on the one hand, by the fuse 4, and the coil 8 and, on the other hand, by the fuse 5 and the coil
9, being very weak. These currents are added to the normal currents flowing through fuses 4 and 5 and cut the latter.
In the particular case shown in the drawings, the magnetic circuit 7 comprises a movable part 11 which, when the magnetic circuit 7 is energized, is attracted and by pressing on a lever 12 causes the opening of a locking arrangement (not shown) retaining the power line disconnector. This, being biased by a spring, automatically cuts the supply line.
FIG. 2 represents an electrical installation comprising a service motor 13 and a standby motor 14. The motor 13 is protected by a fuse 15. The excitation coil 16 of the relay 17 is mounted in parallel with the fuse 15. If the latter is cut, the coil 16 is energized and closes the contact 18 inserted in the supply line of the emergency motor 14.
This starts when the fuse 15 is cut and replaces the motor 13, which is faulty. The operation of the installation is therefore not subject to major disturbances. In order to be able to disconnect the faulty motor 13, the relay 17 is provided with a maintenance coil 19 connected in series with the contact 18.
It should be understood that the invention is by no means limited to the embodiments described and that many modifications can be made to the latter without departing from the scope of the present patent.
