Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

      à une épaisseur tissée de cette manière, les canaux sont orientés dans le sens de la trame lorsque la seconde épaisseur est fixée à la surface de trame et lorsqu'elle est attachée à la surface de chaîne, les canaux sont orientés dans le sens de la chaîne. Ceci présente un avantage particulier si le tissu est utilisé pour des vêtements, puisque le tissu est coupé de manière que les ca- naux soient situés dans le sens des "lignes de fléchissement" que le tissu doit adopter, par exemple, aux parties des coudes et des genoux du vêtement.

   The present invention relates to improvements made to fabrics, and more particularly to the combined or composite fabric having qualities of heat and impermeability.

   A composite fabric according to the invention is constituted by a first layer of woven or knitted fabric, comprising slightly twisted yarns of scraped wool, or comprising wool, and by a second layer of impermeable or waterproofed woven fabric, fixed to the first layer by any suitable adhesive means or a binder in order to provide between the two layers channels or air cells with intercommunication,
Due to the use of the lightly twisted first ply, consisting of or comprising scraped wool, the vapor can easily disperse through the air channels or cells and, therefore, the fabric can.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 dry quickly,

   while the attachment of the two plies to each other takes place on the lifted and loose fibers of the wool and as a result the fabric exhibits a high degree of suppleness and softness. These advantages can be enhanced by using a first layer of weaving or knitting that is tied in and / or in which the yarn is loose.

   The second thickness is preferably constituted by a natural and / or artificial thread or is a mixture of these two materials.

   Any suitable method can be adopted for the production of the channels or the cells. One of these methods resides in the fact that the first thickness is woven by warp threads of different thickness and / or by weft threads of different thickness, so that the first thickness has a number of raised points, distributed over its surface and which serve for fixing, while the z8nes between these points are not fixed to the second thickness, thus providing the channels or air cells with intercommunication.

   The wires can be arranged in groups of different thickness to provide the raised tips.

   Other methods of providing the raised stitches on the first ply include adopting a basketweave reinforcement, or by unevenly spacing the warp threads and / or the weft threads, for example by omitting threads at intervals. Any weaving providing a preponderance of warp on one side and a preponderance of weft on the other can be used to weave the first ply.

   Another method for obtaining the channels or cells consists in fixing the second impermeable or waterproofed layer to the first thickness by applying an adhesive material or a binder at a number of points, chosen in advance over the entire area of the opposite faces of the layers.

   Yet another method of providing the channels or cells is to use for the first ply a tissue having a shrinkage coefficient greater than that of the second ply and shrinking the plies after they have been fixed one. to the other at a number of points relatively spaced from each other, so that protuberances are formed in the second ply, the raised z8nes of which move the pile of the wool of the first ply apart to form the channels or cells. - intercommunication lules.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   The warp and / or weft yarns of each or both plies may exhibit a different degree of twist, so that the yarns exhibiting this different degree of twist contract by a different amount during shrinkage. thus providing protuberances whose action can be compared to that of the protuberances described in the previous example; the thicknesses being fixed to each other a number of spaced points.

   The shrinkage is obtained by means of water and heat.

   The second ply may be pre-coated with an impermeable layer of rubber or the like before the fixing process, or the adhesive material or binder may provide impermeability of the second ply.

   One embodiment of the composite fabric according to the invention, given by way of non-limiting example, is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is an enlarged plan view of a first ply piece comprising two ply weft yarns and a two ply warp yarn; the thinner threads being arranged in groups of three, while the thicker threads are single.

   Fig. 2 is a section taken along line II-II of FIG. 1 of the composite fabric and taken in the plane of the section of the first layer shown in FIG. 1.

   The second thickness in fig. 2 is marked with 2.

   In fig. 2 it is clear that the inclusion in the fabric of thicker threads, relatively spaced apart from each other, provides raised stitches over the entire surface of the fabric, said raised stitches being indicated by shaded areas 3 in fig. . 1. When the thickness 2 is fixed to the thickness 1 by a layer of binder 4 (fig. 2) which can also be an impermeable layer, adhesion is obtained at these raised points, while the "hollows", especially the lower parts of the latter, are only attached to this layer by their hair,
As a result, we obtain the intercommunication channels or cells,
Instead of using weft yarns and warp yarns of different thickness, all the yarns can have the same thickness thus providing a basking of points 3 and 1 for example.

   When the second thickness is fixed

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

      to a woven ply in this way, the channels are oriented in the weft direction when the second ply is attached to the weft surface and when attached to the warp surface, the channels are oriented in the weft direction. chain. This is of particular advantage if the fabric is used for clothing, since the fabric is cut so that the channels are located in the direction of the "sag lines" that the fabric is to adopt, for example, at the elbow portions. and the knees of the garment.

   Any weaving providing a preponderance of warp on one side and a preponderance of weft on the other is suitable for the present invention.

   'CLAIMS. l.- Composite fabric consisting of a first layer of woven or knitted fabric with a slightly twisted yarn in scraped wool or comprising wool and by a second layer of waterproof woven fabric or. waterproofing bonded to the first ply by adhesive means or any suitable binder to provide intercommunicating air channels or cells.
