Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

   Until now, fishing nets were generally made from hemp and cotton yarns. These nets are highly exposed to mechanical forces, atmospheric influences, etc; that is why after a short time they must be repaired or even renewed. Instead of these short-lived yarns, yarns of artificial material, especially polyamide, have already been proposed for making netting cords and nets from these yarns, in this case these synthetic filaments being twisted beforehand, and, recently, more and more braided on a round braiding machine into so-called netting yarns.

   The yarns for braided nets, used so far in practice, consist of 6, 8, 12 or 16 braiding threads, using for this purpose corresponding round braiding machines with 6, 8, 12 or 16 bobbins.

   The productivity of these round braiding machines is, however, very low and ineconomic, in particular compared to machines which make twisted yarns.

   In addition, the yarns for braided nets have a resistance to breakage which is only slightly higher compared to twisted yarns. On the other hand, braided yarns offer over twisted yarns the particular advantage of a better aptitude for knotting in nets, so that one would certainly give preference to braided yarns if they could be produced more quickly. more economically than heretofore, and if, in the use of the same number of fibers (numbers of yarns), higher tensile strength values than those known hitherto were obtained.

   In order to obtain this advantage, it is proposed according to the invention to shape the filaments of artificial material on braiding-twisting machines or the like so as to have braids with two or three longitudinal passages. For example, braiding-twisting machines with 3, 5 or 7 spool carriers can be used for this purpose, in this case the same yarn numbers, which up to now are distributed over 6, 8, 12 or 16 spindles of a round braiding machine, are henceforth used on 3, 5 or 7 spindles of a braiding-twisting machine. Instead of braiding-twisting machines it is also possible to use braiding machines which produce braids with three longitudinal corridors, that is to say which produce the so-called president braids.

   These chair braiding machines will for example be provided with 4 or 5 spindles.

   Such braids offer over round braids hitherto employed the advantage that the machines used are much less expensive than round braiding machines in terms of cost, construction, price and space requirement, as well as operation. Above all, the productivity of these braiding-twisting machines or similar machines is significantly higher than that of round braiding machines. The plait obtained is suitable for knotting in nets or the like, better than plaited in the round; at the same time the breaking strength of these yarns is also higher than that of braided, rounds of the same yarn numbers. This greater tensile strength is particularly important for the braids according to the invention.

  As is known, polyamide fibers and fibers of similar constitution exhibit their highest tensile strength in the state in which they were produced, therefore when they lie along their longitudinal axis produced during manufacture. In this state there is a particularly favorable cohesion of the material molecule. However, this molecular cohesion changes and this all the more as the fiber moves away from its original longitudinal axis.

  In twisted matter, it is constantly twisted circularly around its neutral axis, and there is thus a strong molecular shift. In the braids in the round we are dealing with the same situation. In the case of a braided tuft the individual interwoven fibers are in fact also spaced from their central axis, but to a much lesser extent than in the case of round braids. It follows that a braided tuft with three elements essentially only has the role of unifying a certain quantity of fiber to be chosen in number and strength from one case to another so as to be able to use practically

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 such a braided for example to tie a net or similar article.

   It is thus achieved that this kind of union of the fibers ensures a minimum of deviation with respect to the longitudinal axis of the fiber. This explains why, in the use of braids made of yarns of artificial material, treated on a braiding-twist machine or the like, a particularly favorable tensile strength is obtained. These braids are therefore particularly suitable for use in cases where there is a high mechanical stress.

   Nets made of threads of artificial material still have the disadvantage that they cannot be treated as well with impregnating agents, for example tar, bitumen, etc. This impregnation, apart from the protection of the threads, has the further advantage that the threads have a good feel for the hand. ' of the sinner. Likewise, the net from the technical point of view of catching must be a little stiff so that at the time of casting it unfolds correctly and does not become entangled in a bundle by the wind and the waves, without offering resistance. .

   The danger of insufficient deployment or entanglement is particularly great for polyamide nets, because these nets have a lower weight than hemp or cotton nets.

   In order to remedy these drawbacks, it is further proposed to arrange in the braids produced on braiding-twist machines or the like, in one or more longitudinal corridors, one or more solid threads which consist of any natural or fibrous material or artificial, preferably fiberglass yarn. By the use of these longitudinal inserts the twisted and president netting yarns acquire a special feel and stiffness as well as a slightly higher weight, which makes it easier to cast nets. ''
The drawing shows in Figures 1 to 3 various braids according to the invention.

     In figure 1 this is a three-strand twisted braid, prepared from the three polyamide strands Al, A2, and A3. This braid can for example receive two solid son B1 and B2, made of fiberglass yarn.

   Figure 2 shows a twisted braid with four threads, with the artificial threads A1, A2, A3 and A4. In this exemplary embodiment, it can be seen that in a longitudinal passage of the braided material, for example, two yarns of fiberglass B1 are applied and in the other longitudinal passage a reinforcing thread B2.

   In FIG. 3, we are dealing with a five-ply president braided with the son of artificial material A1 to A5. Here we place three reinforcing threads B1 in a longitudinal corridor and in each of the other two longitudinal corridors a reinforcing thread B2 and B3.

   It is evident that the invention is not limited to the embodiments shown or to the use for fishing nets. The lines and moorings required in nets and the like can also be made mainly from such braids with two or three longitudinal passages.

  It is also possible to make other nets such as, for example, camouflage nets, blanket threads, etc., or ropes for other applications from the braids according to the invention.
