Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

   Pour une compréhension plus totale de la nature et des objets de l'in- vention, il y a lieu de se référer à la description détaillée ci-après, illustrée par les dessins qui l'accompagnent, dans lesquels: la figure 1 est une élévation frontale d'une machine à bobiner sui- vant la présente invention, cette figure montrant le chariot mobile de l'invention dans sa position la plus élevée; la figure 2 est une élévation latérale de la machine à bobiner de la figure 1; la figure 3 est une vue de détail, montrant les deux cames façonnées dans les plaques extérieures et les positions des organes coulissant sur ou dans ces cames au cours des différents stades du cycle de bobinage et d'isolation;

   la figure 4 est une vue en section, suivant la ligne IV-IV de la fi- gure 1 et dans la direction des flèches, mais montrant le chariot mobile placé dans la position qu'il occupe au départ du cycle de bobinage ; les figures 5, 6, 7, 8 et 9 sont des vues en section, similaires à la figure 4, mais montrant le chariot mobile dans les différentes positions qu'il occupe durant le cycle de bobinage et de recouvrement; la figure 10 est une vue fragmentaire agrandie, montrant le frein de blocage, employé pour empêcher le mouvement de retour du ruban en feuille et de la matière isolante; la figure 11 est une vue fragmentaire agrandie, montrant les plaques de support supérieure et inférieure du tube d'aspiration; la figure 12 est une élévation latérale agrandie d'une bobine de feuille, fabriquée sur la machine de la présente invention;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 8>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 9>

   and Figure 13 is a cross-sectional view of the reel of Figure 12. The reel of sheet, wound by the machine covered by the present invention, but is shown in Figures 12 and 13 to allow a better understanding of the operation of the machine. the winding machine. The coil 1 comprises a tubular core C, formed from a conductive material, such as, for example, aluminum. A strip of thin conductive material F in sheet form, preferably aluminum foil which may be .0002 to .004 inch thick, is attached at one end to the circumference of core C.

   A tape of insulation material I, in sheet form, preferably having a thickness of the order of .00025 to .004 inch, is placed over the tape F and its end is also secured to the core C. The insulation tape I is preferably polyethylene terephthalate, but it can also consist of strong paper or any other suitable thin insulating material. The foil and insulation tapes placed on top of each other are wound on the core C until the desired number of turns is reached, after which the insulation tape is cut.

   An insulating tape T1, having on one of its faces a product adhering by pressure, is rolled, on the circumference of the wound coil, enveloping the latter over approximately 2700; this strip then follows the free end of the strip F to insulate one face thereof. A second piece of insulating tape T2 is glued to the circumference of the coil and to the outer face of the insulation T1 extending about 90 of the circumference of the coil in the direction opposite to that taken for the T1 tape. , in order to complete the insulation of the outer face of the coil.

   At the place where the strip T2 joins the end of the tape F, this strip is glued to this tape, trimmed on its other face with the strip Tl; this is how the insulation of the end of said tape which comes out of the body of the coil is ensured and serves as a conduit for inserting said coil into a circuit.

   The winding machine of the present invention comprises a device for rotating a tubular core to wind a sheet tape and a

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 tape of insulating material, placed on the first tape. A movable carriage is provided in order to assemble the foil tape and the insulating tape coming from their rolls, to place them one on top of the other and to guide them towards the rotating core.

   The mobile carriage carries two rolls of insulating tape, having a product adhering by pressure to one of its faces and the carriage is provided with a device for bringing the adhering layers by pressure of the insulating tapes into contact with it. a wound coil, in order to facilitate the covering of the circumference of the coil and to isolate the free end emerging from it like a conduit. Cam devices are provided which cooperate with the movable carriage to bring the adhering surface of the insulating tapes into contact with the circumference of the wound reel and to cut the tape with the insulator placed thereon. ci and an adhesive insulating tape at variable positions, previously determined during the movement of the carriage.

   With reference to the drawing, the winding machine of the present invention is established on a frame or table 10 which rests on the feet 12 and 14. A spool head 16 contains a spindle 17 with its bearing and controlled by a motor. variable speed, not shown in the drawing and mounted in the foot 12 of the winding head. This motor is controlled by a pedal device 18 in order to obtain the desirable starting and winding speed. A tailstock 20 is adjustably mounted on the table 10 and is operated by a spindle 22 with its bearing, so that the winding shaft 26 can be mounted between the aforesaid two spindles which drive it. The spindle 17 is provided with a hand wheel 23 for rotating said spindle by hand, if necessary.

   Between the pins 17 and 22 and behind them is provided a device for guiding a strip of foil and an insulating strip towards the winding shaft 26, in order to perform a winding on the core C, driven by said shaft and in order to apply adhesive tapes by pressure to wound reels, in a manner which will be discussed hereinafter to complete said reels.

  Said device comprises two external vertical plates 28 and 30, which support a pivoting carriage 32 through which the tapes pass. The upper edges of the outer plates 28 and 30 are shaped in the form of cams 34 which control certain functions of the carriage 32 as the latter rotates and cam grooves 38 and 40 (Figures 2 and 3) are provided in the inner faces. plates 28 and 30 respectively and control other functions of said carriage when the latter pivots.

   The carriage 32 is a rigid frame, comprising the side plates 42 and 44, having an approximately triangular shape, which are fixed by their angle 46 to the axis 48, against the inner faces of the outer plates 28 and 30 respectively. Axle 48 is set so that it can rotate in outer plates 28 and 30 of table 10 and about halfway between their anterior and posterior edges. The side plates 42 and 44 are fixedly connected to spaced cross bars 50, 52 and 54 placed against their upper edges and to spaced cross bars 56 58 and 60 placed below respectively the bars 50, 52 and 54, in view. to form a rigid frame which can pivot around the shaft 48.

   The carriage control lever 62 is fixed to the top of the side plate by means of studs 64 and 66 and protrudes above said side plate and outer plate 30. A pivoting pawl 68 is mounted on the stud. 64 and can, under the action of the spring 70, be engaged in the notches 72, 74 made in the crenellated sector 76 which is fixed to the outer surface of the outer plate 30 and protrudes above it. The notches 72 and 74 are placed in such a way on the sector 76, that the carriage 32 can be held in the correct position to wind up spools to remove wound up spools and to load the machine prior to starting a new winding cycle.

   The machine of the present invention is arranged so as to allow the simultaneous winding of several coils on the shaft 26. However, as

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 that the mechanisms that the carriage 32 comprises for each winding position are identical, only one of these mechanisms will be described in detail here.

   In addition to forming part of the carriage 32, the bars 56, 58 and 60 carry and guide a metal tape F or a similar material and the bars 50, 52 and 54 carry and guide a strip of insulating material I. - Waters of metal tape 78 and of insulating material 80 are arranged at the rear of the machine in any suitable way. Spaced plates 86 and 88 are adjustably mounted on bars 50, 52 and 54 to prevent lateral displacement of the strip of insulating material and guide plates 90 and 92 'are adjustably mounted on the bars. bars 56, 58 and 60, lower than 86 and 88, to prevent lateral displacement of the tape F. A brake 94 is mounted eccentrically and so as to be able to swing around the stud 96, itself fixed to the plate. guide 90.

   This brake is placed in such a way that it can bear on the bar 58. A similar brake 98 is mounted eccentrically on the guide plate 86, so as to be able to bear on the bar 52. The brakes 94 and 98 are preferably formed in a material with a high coefficient of friction, such. for example, rubber and they function as retrograde motion locking brakes, in order to allow the foil tape F and the insulating tape I to be drawn from the rollers 78 and 80 towards the reel to be wound on the shaft 26, but to prevent this movement from being reversed at any time.

   The apparatus described heretofore can be used to wind spools of sheet tape, but it does not allow the spools to be completed once wound by covering them with adhesive tape. It operates as follows: carriage 32 is tilted forward until pawl 68 engages notch 72, the position shown in Figure 5. Sheet tape F is unwound from roll 78. passing over bars 60, 58 and 56 and under the retrograde movement locking brake 94 and is fixed to the electrically conductive core C, which the shaft 26 carries. The insulating strip I is unwound from the roll 80, passing over bars 54, 52 and 50 and under the brake, retrograde movement lock 98 and is also attached to the core C.

   Insofar as the insulating strip I will be on the strip of foil F, this strip F will be in contact with the core C over almost the entire periphery of the first winding thus allowing good electrical contact therewith. With the carriage 32 still in the position shown in Figure 5, the pedal 18 is actuated to rotate the spindle 17, driving the shaft 26 and the core C, on which is wound a coil, while the plates of guide 90, 92, 86 and 88 and the front bars 56 and 50 direct the sheet F and the insulation 1 towards this core.

  When the reel is wound up, it must be covered with adhesive tape to prevent it from unwinding and the end of the foil tape F which comes out of the reel must be insulated. It goes without saying that these operations can be carried out by hand, but this way of acting is slow and expensive. The mechanism described below performs them quickly and economically, as a function of the apparatus.

   Devices for applying the adhesive tape on the circumference of the sheet reel 1 and on the duct which leaves it, are carried by the carriage 32 and actuated by the pivoting movement of said carriage. These devices comprise support parts, on which are placed two rolls of tape having one side covered with a product adhering by pressure to both sides of the sheet tape F, when the latter is stretched from its roll towards the reel 1. .

   The devices also include parts, connected with the rolls of adhesive tape, for keeping the ends free while the spool 1 is being wound up and for bringing these ends into contact with the circumference of the spool after winding. winding thereof in order to begin the covering operation and to guide the adhesive strip towards the circumference of the reel and along the duct which emerges therefrom.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

   Both the T1 tape and T2 tape preferably comprise polyethylene terephthalate, but they may also consist of any suitable insulating material having a layer of any pressure-sensitive adhesive such as, for example, those set forth in US Patents 2,607,7119 2,567,671 2,328,066 or 2,177,627. A roll 180 of adhesive tape T1 is disposed between two plates 103, of triangular shape, by means of the shaft 152 which extends in the space between these two plates and is fixed at their upper vertices. The rear low angles of the plates 103 have openings adapted to the pipe 106 so as to allow the mounting of the plates on this pipe.

   The ends of the pipe 106 are rigidly attached to one end of the hinges 108, which pivot at their other end about the bar 56. A tubular member 100 is fixed between the plates 1039 at the anterior angle thereof. .

  Several perforations 201 are made in the wall of the pipe 100 near the midpoint and at the underside of this pipe. The interior of the pipe 106 is connected to the interior of the tubular member 100 by means of two flexible tubes 206, the ends of which pass over the fittings 205 and 207 which are fixed in the walls, respectively of the tubular member 100 and of the pipe 106. It is understood that the ends of the tubular member 100 are closed by any suitable means, for example by means of bolts 101 which serve to fix said tubular member to the plates 103.

   The ends of the pipe 106 are closed by means of the bolts 111, threaded into the ends of this pipe and provided with free ends 113 which project axially on these bolts above the upper edge of the outer plates 28 and 30 and the cam surfaces. ;, shaped to these plates. Due to the flexibility of the tubes 206, the plates 103 and the tubular member 100 can pivot on the tube 106 at an angle limited by the flexibility of the tubes 206.

   In order to limit the anti-clockwise pivotal movement, described by said tubular member plates 103 100 as shown in Figures 2-9, a plate 124, having a protruding lug 123 side ;, is fixed to the front side of the pipe 106 against a face of the plate 103 by means of the collars 120 and the screws 121, said ear placed under the plate 103 and supporting the latter. As the free ends 113 are in contact with the cam surface 34, it will appear that, when the carriage 32 rotates forward or backward, the pipe 106 will rise or fall depending on the configuration of said cam 34,

   causing pivotal movement of the plates 103 of the tape roll 180 and of the tubular member 100 around the bar 56 through the hinge 108 When the carriage 32 rotates forward, as shown in Figure 1, or backward clockwise, as shown in Figures 2-9, the free ends 113 will slide along the forward inclined section 37 of the cam surface 34, until they are reach their lowest point, 113c of Fig. 3, after which the continuation of the forward movement of the carriage 32 will slide them along the upward section 35 of said cam 34, until they take the position 113b of figure 3.

   When the free ends 113 are in position 113b, the tubular member 100 is above and in front of the spool mounted on the shaft 26 (see figure 5) When the spool has been wound onto the shaft. 26, the carriage 32 is retracted so that the free ends 113 slide on the camming surface 35 downward to position 113c and thereby the tubular member 100 is lowered and brought into contact with the circumference. of a coil wound on the shaft 26 (see figure 6).

   Continuation of the backward movement of the carriage 32 causes the tubular member 100 to move along the length of sheet tape exiting the wound spool; during this stage, the tubular member 100 and the support device for the adhesive strip T2 are carried by the latter device in a manner which will be detailed below, until such time as the free ends 113 s' engage again on the cam surface 34.

   The pipe 106 is connected to a vacuum pump, not shown, by means of a flexible tube 204, so that a partial air vacuum can be created inside the pipe 106 and the tubular member 100. The end of the strip

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 adhesive of the roller 180 passes over the guide rod 136 and below the tubular member 100, so that the posterior non-adhesive face of said strip is in contact with the perforations 201 made in said tubular member, the vacuum created in said member 100 maintains the end of the band T1 against the circumference of said member 100.

   A second supply of adhesive tape T2, similar to tape T1, in the form of roll 148, is rotatably mounted between two side plates 128, which are approximately triangular in shape and whose upper vertices pivot on bar 56. , to allow rocking movement of said plates and said roller 148. The plates 128 are separated by a predetermined distance by means of a combined spacer and guide rod 149 and the shaft 166, removably established. between the lower vertices of said plates 128.

   The roll of adhesive tape 148 is held in alignment with the coil core C, the insulation 1 and the foil tape F by means of a collar 160, adjustably secured to the shaft 166 and against which one side of the core 150 of roll 148 is pressed by coil spring 158 which is compressed between said core and a second adjustable collar 162. Besides holding roll 148 in its correct place on shaft 166, collar 160 and the spring 158 comprise a device for giving a predetermined tension to the strip T2, when the latter is unwound from its roll. It goes without saying that the resistance of the roll 148 to unwinding can be increased or reduced by moving the collar 162 away from the collar 160 or by bringing it closer to the latter.

   An identical device (not shown) is employed on the shaft 152 to hold the roll 180 of adhesive tape T1 in its correct place on the shaft 152 and to give it a predetermined tension. The pipe 126, which carries the spacers 125 is established between the third vertices, the intermediate vertices, of the plates 128 and has several perforations 176, identical to the perforations 201 in the tubular member 100, on the upper face of the wall of the pipe. this one and halfway between the plates 128. The ends of the pipe 126 are closed by the bolts 139, threaded in the ends of this pipe and furnished with free ends 140 which protrude outwards and enter the grooves with cams, made respectively in the inner faces of the outer plates 28 and 30.

   Cam grooves 38 and 40 are identical except that they face each other; are closed octagonal grooves in which the free ends 140 slide in the general direction of clockwise, as shown in FIG. 3, when the carriage 32 pivots forward and backward.

   The end of the strip T2 is pulled from the roller 148, passed over the guide rod 149 and around the pipe 126 and passed over the perforations 176.

  The interior of the pipe 126 is connected to a vacuum pump, not shown, by means of a flexible tube 167, so that a partial air vacuum can be created inside the pipe 126. The vacuum maintained inside the pipe 126 creates a suction in the perforations 176, by which the end of the strip T2 is held around the circumference of said pipe.

   At the start of a winding cycle, the carriage 32 is moved back until the pawl 68 engages in the rear notch 74; in this position, the free sliding ends 113 and 140, having followed their cam paths, occupy in these respective paths the positions indicated by 113a and 140a in FIG. 3 and the apparatus in its entirety is presented as shown in FIG. drawing 4. When said sliders are in this position, the shaft 26, which carries a coil core C, is disposed between the pins 17 and 22, this being the starting operation of the winding cycle. The pawl 68 is released and the carriage 32 is retracted, in order to move the slider 140 back along the sections 33 of the cam grooves 38 and 40, until these sliders 140 descend through the sections 31.

   The rear wall of the vertical section 31 serves as a stopper to limit the rear movement of the carriage 32. At this point, the carriage 32 is advanced as a result of which, on the one hand, the slide 140 moves forward along it. roughly horizontal section 27 and descends into

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 section 21 and, on the other hand, the slider 113 moves forward along the cam surface 34. The carriage 32 reaches the limit of its forward movement as the sliders 140 come to the end. junction of sections 21 and 15. When this point is reached, the carriage 32 is retracted until the pawl 68 engages the anterior notch 72 of the sector 76.

   This slight backward movement of the carriage 32 causes a slight upward and forward movement of the sliders 140 in the groove section 15, to the position indicated by 140b in Figure 3 and shown as a whole in Figure 5. When the slider 140 occupies the position 140b, the slider 113 which controls the tubular member 100, has slid into the position 113b. When the two sliders are in these latter positions, the pipe 126 and the tubular member 100 are spaced approximately as far apart as possible from each other and, as said pipe 126 and said tubular member carry the ends of the bands T1 and T2, these bands are spaced approximately at most from each other.

   When the carriage 32 is in this position, the end of the tape F is fixed to the coil core C and the end of the insulation I is also fixed to this core. The pedal 18 is actuated so that the shaft 26 rotates and the core C is wound. After winding is complete, carriage 32 is retracted, whereupon slide 140 rises in groove section 15 and slide 113 recedes and descends onto cam surface 35. During this final backward movement of carriage 32 , the insulation 1 is cut either by hand by the person in charge of the machine, or by the device described in detail below, and which is actuated by this movement of the carriage.

   When the slider 113 reaches position 113c (see also figure 6), the adhesive surface of the strip T1 is brought into contact with the circumference of the spool which has just been wound on the shaft 26 and the carriage 32. is held in this position while the shaft 26 and the spool are rotated about 270 by means of the hand wheel 23; in order to wind a length of tape around the circumference of said reel, then the carriage 32 is retracted further to raise the coilisseur 140 to position 140d (see figure 7) in which the pipe 126 presses the coil. Adhesive 'surface' of the T2 tape against the circumference of the reel wound over the end of the T1 tape which adheres to the reel.

   As the backward movement of the carriage 32 is continued, the strip T1 is drawn along the upper face of the tape F which is stretched between the wound spool and the guide bar 56 and the sliders 140 rise in the throat section 38 until 'to position 140e (see also figure 8) so that the pipe' 126 is lifted from the circumference of the spool to the lower surface of the tape F and the strip T2 is drawn from the circumference of the spool to the lower surface of tape F, so that said tape is pressed against the tape in question and tubular member 100 is supported. When this backward movement of the carriage 32 is continued, the slides 140 move back into the grooves 38, until they reach the position 140f.

   During this last movement, the pipe 126 presses the strip T2 against the lower surface of the strip F and supports the tubular member 100, so that the conduit exiting the coil is insulated. At the end of this last movement, the sliders 113 come into contact with the cam surface 39, to remove the tubular member 100 from the tape F, and the sliders 140 enter the groove 13 to lower the pipe 126 and the gap. ter thus tape F.

   At this point, the strips T1 and T2 as well as the strip F are cut, either by hand or in the manner which will be described below, the carriage 32 is retracted until the sliders are respectively located. in positions 113a and 140a, which they occupied at the start of the winding cycle, the shaft 26 and the spool located thereon are removed from the apparatus and the above-described cycle is repeated. It is understood that, once the strip T2 has contacted the lower surface of the strip F, the spool is rotated by about 90, so that the length of strip which extends from the circumference of the reel at, the lower surface of the tape is folded between the reel and, the conduit, formed by the length of tape which comes out of the reel.

   The device for cutting the insulation I comprises a pair of blades

 <Desc / Clms Page number 8>

 flexible 210 and 214 which move in mutual relation and which cooperate to cut said insulator at a predetermined time in the cycle of operations. The blade 214 is constituted by one end of the part 225, having the shape of a c, which is fixedly attached to the pipe 106 by the screw 107, so that the end of the blade 214 depends on the posterior face of the blade. this pipe. The part 214 preferably consists of a thin sheet of spring steel, so that its ends can undergo slight bending during the cutting operation.

   The blade 210 is fixedly attached to the underside of the bar 50, by means of the knife bar 209 and the screws 212 and depends on this bar as has been explained above, the vertical movement of the pipe 106, relative to the carriage 32, and the bar 50 is controlled by the cam 34 The blades 210 and 214 are of such a length that the cutting edge of one will touch the face of the other near its cutting edge and slide off that face , thus cutting the insulating tape I, as the carriage 32 is moved back from position 113b to position 113c. It should be remembered that the insulation passes over the bar 50 as it travels towards the spool of the shaft 26 and that therefore it is located between the two blades 210 and 214.

   The other end of the C-shaped piece 225 constitutes the blade 218, which cooperates with the blade 220 to cut the tape F, when the carriage 32 is tilted back from position 113f to position 113a. The blade 220, preferably made of a thin sheet of spring steel, is fixedly established on the shaft 222. The shaft 222 is established between the side plates 128 so that it can be rotated. On the left, the shaft 222 projects past the side plate 42 and joins the outer plate 28, as shown in Figure 1. The finger 224, having the cam surface 223 at its upper edge, is attached to the left end of the shaft. tree 222.

   The cam surface 223 is adapted to contact the tip 226 which protrudes from the inner face of the outer plate 28 as the carriage 32 rotates back, thereby driving the shaft 222 clockwise. clockwise, as shown in Figure 9. The clockwise rotation of the shaft 222 causes the blade 220 to move up against the side of the blade 218, so that the latter slides along. the edge of the blade 220 and cuts the tape F. It should be remembered that the tape F extends from the bar 56 to the spool and is therefore located between the blades 218 and 220.

   One end of coil spring 217, established on shaft 222, against plate 128, is attached to this plate, while its other end is attached to collar 215, which is attached to shaft 222, so to drive the latter in the opposite direction to that of the needles of the watch, once the finger 224 has passed the tip 226 and to restore the blade 220 to its original position. The tip 221, attached to the right end of the shaft 222 (see Figure 1), abuts against the crossbar 151 to limit the counterclockwise rotation of said shaft 222. A sharp blade 228 is provided for cutting the adhesive tape Tl; it is operated by hand. The knife 228, fixedly established on the cross member 230, is directed downwards and the rear of this cross member.

   The crosspiece 230 is fixed by its ends to the upper ends of the arms 232 and 234, the lower ends of which pivot around the pipe 106. On the pipe 106, respectively, against the arms 232 and 234, the coil springs are established. 236 and 238 which drive these arms in a clockwise direction, as shown in drawing 2, in order to press the knife 228 against the surface of the guard 240. The guard 240, which is intended to hide the Knife 228 to avoid accidents and which also serves to protect said knife, is mounted on the plates 103 and is located between them.

   When the carriage is in position 113a the crossmember 230 is lowered by hand in order to press the tip of the knife 228 against the surface of the strip T1 and to pierce the latter. After the tip of the knife 228 has entered the strip T1, slight rotation of the spool by means of the hand wheel 23 advances the strip relative to the knife, whereupon the strip is cut.

   After the insulation I, the tape F and the tape Tl have been cut, the

 <Desc / Clms Page number 9>

 person in charge of the machine cuts the strip T2 by any suitable means, for example with a pair of scissors. However, it will be obvious to those skilled in the art that a device for cutting the strip T2 can be provided, for example a knife or blades similar to those described above which can be set up on the carriage 32 for cutting. the T2 band.

   The machine of the present invention operates in the following manner.

  The carriage 32 being in position 113a, the shaft 26 and the core C are fixed between the pins 17 and 22. Then the carriage is advanced to position 113b and the tape F as well as the insulation I are attached to the core C, after which the pedal 18 is lowered so as to rotate the shaft 26 and wind on the core C. When the winding is completed, the carriage 32 is moved back until the tubular member 100 presses on the band T1 of so that it comes into contact with the circumference of said coil (positions 113c and 140c, Figures 3 and 6).

  During this last movement, the blades 210 and 214 cut the insulation 1. The carriage 32 is held in the position shown in FIG. 6 and the shaft 26 is rotated about 270, in order to make a partial winding of the band Tl. on the spool. This being done, the carriage 32 is retracted to position 113a. During this movement, the carriage passes through positions 113 and 140 d, e and f, which correspond respectively to figures 7, 8 and 9. In position 113d, 140d, figure 7, the tubular member 126 presses the strip T2 against the circumference of the coil.

   When the carriage 32 moves from this latter position to position 113f, 140f, the strips T1 and T2 are pulled along the duct tape which exits the spool, position 113e, 140eg figure 8 and when the carriage 32 approaches position 113f , 140f, figure 9, the blades 218 and 220 cut the ribbon F. When the carriage 32 is in position 113f, the knife 228 is lowered to pierce the strip T1 and the shaft 26 is rotated about 90 in order to make advance the strip T1 with respect to the knife 228, following which this strip is cut shortly before the end of the strip F, and the length of strip T2 which extends from the circumference of the reel to the conduit is bent between the coil and the conduit.

  At this point the machine attendant cuts the strip T2, moves the carriage 32 back to the starting position 113a and removes the shaft 26 and the finished reel.

   As certain modifications can be made to the apparatus described above without departing from the scope of the invention described, it is understood that all the elements contained in the above description or shown in the drawings which accompany it will be interpreted in an illustrative and non-limiting sense.
