 EMI1.1
 d'autre part des dérivés d'acide acrylique.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 EMI4.1

 EMI4.2
 + CH:; - ( CFi2 ) 2 - CHC 1 - R' ii' 1 l'a p1'0 8'311 tan.t ON o u COOR).

  De peroxydes répondant à la structure :
 EMI4.3

 EMI4.4

 EMI4.11

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 EMI5.2

   A la fin de l'addition, on décante la couche organique et on en sépare la portion acide en traitant par une solution de bicarbonate de sodium ; en acidifiant cette solu- tion, on obtient une fraction acide que l'on sépare ; on la sèche et on la dissout dans du méthanol aoidifié par l'acide sulfurique ; on chauffe le mélange au reflux pendant 3 heures, puis on élimine le méthanol en excès ;

   Exemple 3.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 9>

   Exemple 9.

  "Process for the preparation of derivatives of aliphatic oarboxylic acids"
The present invention relates to a new process for the preparation of derivatives of aliphatic carboxylic acids which consists in reacting under precise conditions, on the one hand, a peroxide whose structure is that of a 1-hydroxy-hydroperoxide.
 EMI1.1
 on the other hand, acrylic acid derivatives.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   If the hydroperoxide has a cyclic structure, no fragmentation of the molecule occurs, but a dicarboxylic acid derivative is formed according to the equation:
 EMI2.1
 (in which Rt represents COOR or ON, R being a C1 -Ce alkyl radical). for example, diacid derivatives can be prepared
 EMI2.2
 azelalque and az6lalque acid itself by reacting 1-hydroxy-r.ydroperoc, payalohexane with acrylic acid derivatives (nitrile, esters), in the presence of a suitable catalyst and chloride ion , according to the diagram:
 EMI2.3
 (in which RI represents ON or COOR, R being a C1-C5 alkyl group).

   On the contrary, in the presence of an acyclic hydroperoxide, the molecule divides into fragments, forming derivatives of carboxylic acids, according to the scheme:
 EMI2.4
 (in which R 'represents COOR or CN, R being a C1-C5 alkyl radical).

   The practical conduct of the process described here is very easy and consists in adding, while stirring, the peroxide pure or in solution in organic solvents (ethers, alcohols, etc.), to a mixture containing the decomposing agent.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 tion of peroxide, an excess of the acyl derivative and hydrochloric acid. the work was carried out in an aqueous or aqueous alcoholic or acetone or aqueous acetone medium at a temperature of between -20 and +60 C (preferably at a temperature of between -10 and +10 0); ferrous or cuprous salts are used as peroxide decomposition agents.

   The excess acrylonitrile is completely recovered at the end of the reaction.

   About 50 mole% of the peroxide turns into useful products and 40% turns into a recoverable ketone.

   In this way, from 1-hydroxy-hydroperoxy-cyclopentane, suberic acid derivatives are obtained which can be transformed into the acid itself:
 EMI3.1

When R 'represents CN, the corresponding semi-nitrile is obtained, and when R' represents COOR, the semi-ester is obtained; these derivatives can be transformed into suberic acid by saponifying the nitrile or ester function and then carrying out hydrogenolysis:
 EMI3.2

 EMI3.3
 From diethyloetone hydroparoxide we get prodionic acid and an alpha-chlôrovaleric acid derivative:

 EMI4.1

 EMI4.2
 + CH :; - (CFi2) 2 - CHC 1 - R 'ii' 1 a p1'0 8'311 tan.t ON or COOR).

  Peroxides corresponding to the structure:
 EMI4.3

 EMI4.4
 i8 Privés type R- (CH2) n + 1 - CHC1-R 'and scetic acid are obtained.

   Thus, for example, starting from the hydroxide of
 EMI4.5
 methyl ethyl oetona, we obtain the nitrile of alpha- -ohloro-valeric acid and acetic acid:
 EMI4.6

 EMI4.7
 + CH 3 - (H) 2 choi - Rt (R 'designating ON or COOR).

   Likewise, from the hydroperoxides of methylhexyl-
 EMI4.8
 oeton'3 and nxetlaylheptylaetone, the respective derivatives of alpha-ohlorononanoic and alpha-chlorodecanoic acid are obtained.

  If the reaction is carried out in the presence of acid
 EMI4.9
 1> x '>; zhj - <: ri.iao instead of hydrochloric acid, it proceeds drastically in the same direction and results in the formation of a bromine derivative instead of an chlorinated derivative.
 EMI4.10

  Thus, for example, starting from the hydroperoxide of r14-tbyloetone, and acrylonitrile, one obtains the ni tri19 of alpha-bromovaleric acid:
 EMI4.11

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

It is very probable that these reactions take place by a radical mechanism which can be summarized as follows:
 EMI5.1

Azelaic acid can be obtained from the semi- -nitrile or from the aloyl ester of alpha- -chloro-azelaic acid, by hydrolysis followed by hydrogenolysis:
 EMI5.2

When working in the presence of acrylonitrile, a semi-nitrile is obtained:
HOOC - (CH2) -6- CHCl- CN which is converted into alpha-chloroazelalic acid by acid saponification
HOOO - (CH2) 6- CHCl- COOH while an acrylic ester is present, a semi-ester is obtained:

HOOC - (CH) 6 - CHCl-COOR (where R is a C1 - C5 alkyl group) which can also be saponified to alpha-cloroazelaic acid.

   The latter product is then converted into azelaic acid by subjecting it to hydrogenolysis to present Ni-Or Raney in a slightly alkaline medium.

   The following examples are given to illustrate the invention without in any way limiting its scope.

   Example 1.

   While stirring and cooling, 30 g of cyclopentanone hydroperoxide is added to a mixture containing 53 g of acrylonitrile, 35 g of cuprous chloride and 6 g of acid.

 hydrochloric acid in 153 cm3 of water; the temperature is maintained between -5 ot 0 C.

   At the end of the addition, the organic layer is decanted and the acid portion is separated from it by treating with a solution of sodium bicarbonate; by acidifying this solution, an acid fraction is obtained which is separated; it is dried and dissolved in methanol aoidified with sulfuric acid; the mixture is heated under reflux for 3 hours, then the excess methanol is removed;

   the sulfuric acid is neutralized with a solution of sodium bioarbonate and the residue is distilled off under reduced pressure.
 EMI6.1
 the methyl α-ohlorovalerate is first collected (yield 30 mol% relative to the peroxide), and at a temperature between 100 and 11,500 under a pressure of 0.4 mm, the methyl ester of alpha-acid is collected. -chlorosubérique (yield 20 moles% relative to the peroxide).

   The latter product is saponified by heating it at reflux with concentrated hydrochloric acid; we obtain
 EMI6.2
 thus alpha-chlorosub6ric acid which melts at 98-9900.

   By dissolving this acid in a solution of sodium bicarbonate and treating with Ni-Cr Raney and hydrogen (100 atmospheres) at a temperature between 110 and 120 C, suberic acid is obtained which melts at 139-140 C .

   After separating the acidic fraction, the organic layer is distilled in order to recover the acrylonitrile and the cyclopentanone.

   Example 2.

   While stirring and cooling, add 20 g
 EMI6.3
 of methyl ethyl ketone hydroperoxide dissolved in "L5 cm3 of ethyl ether to a mixture comprising 40 g of acrylonitrile, 25 g of cuprous chloride and 4 g of hydrochloric acid in 150 cm3 of water. The reaction temperature is maintained between -10 and +5 C. After the end of the addition, the layer is separated

 organic and subjected to fractional distillation; at
 EMI7.1
 160 ° C, the alpha-ohlorovaleron3.trile is collected; by saponifying with concentrated hydrochloric acid, alpha-chlorova1eric acid is obtained (boiling point 220-222 0).

   Example 3.

   24 g of diethyloetone hydroperoxide in 20 cm3 of ethyl ether are added to a mixture oomprenant 40 g of aorylonitrile, 25 g of cuprous chloride and 5 g of oxacid ohlorhydriqua in 150 cm3 of water. during the addition, the mixture is stirred and cooled to about 0 C. After completion of the reaction, the aqueous layer is separated, the excess aoryloronitrile is distilled off and the residue is refluxed with concentrated hydrochloric acid. n distilling the product thus obtained, it is collected at

  During the addition, the mixture is stirred and cooled to between 0 and 5 ° C. The organic layer is then separated and the acrylonitrile is removed by distillation; the residue is heated to reflux with concentrated hydrochloric acid.
