<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Juice extractor and chopper.
The invention relates to an improved construction and efficiency of juice extractors and choppers, as used as independent household utensils or as interchangeable accessories of kitchen machines, for extracting juice from fruits and vegetables, such as chopping and grating them.
The invention relates in particular to a juice extractor and a chopper constituted by a cup-shaped housing, enclosing a shaft passing through the bottom thereof and a sieve drum, with friction discs or chopping discs or grating mounted on the shaft; the apparatus also has a cup-shaped cover, with an introduction duct descending to the friction disc and the chopping disc, while the bottom of the bowl-shaped housing is provided with an annular rib, for lead the juice and the cut pieces to outlet openings, provided on the outside and inside of the annulus rib

re.
In these juice extractors and choppers, the drum A as well as the chopping and grating discs have a hollow journal with the help of which they are mounted on the shaft.
This embodiment guarantees secure attachment and allows easy replacement of the drum and discs. this is however costly because a hollow journal is necessary for each part.
According to the invention, it is proposed to fix the hollow journal permanently on the shaft of the juice extractor and chopper and to mount the screen drum and the discs so as to make them interchangeable. There is thus still the further advantage that the discs can be used on both sides.
In order to prevent, during the extraction of the juice or the rapage, on the one hand, the projection of the remaining pieces, under the action of the centrifugal force, and in order to be able, on the other hand, to seize these remaining pieces , the invention also proposes to place on the annular rib a flat cover having one or more openings for the filling channels and having moldings made with the press, extending along radii or along elbows and forming ribs. in front of which the cutting edges of the disc pass. The remaining pieces, rotating with the disc, are braked or held by these ribs, so that the cutting edges can cut them.
Instead of these ribs, it is also possible to envisage other obstacles, such as pins, stamped tabs or the like, arranged in a suitable manner.
To ensure good support for the screen drum and the disc, the hollow journal advantageously has at its lower edge three or four radial arms, where the ends serve as a support for the drum and the discs. These support members allow the drums and discs to be manufactured from relatively thin sheet metal.
According to another characteristic of the invention,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the drums and discs are held free of play by the strong pressure of a spring. This is achieved by means of a coil spring, attached to the lower end of a cap turned over the hollow journal. The hat arises

There is a slot in which the ends of the notched pupil 5 can penetrate. Perpendicular to the slot, in the upper face of the bottom 11 of the hat, there is a groove 12.
If then the bonnet 9 is pressed, against the resistance of the coil spring 10, up to the hollow journal 4, so that the notched pin 5 engages in the slot in the bottom of the bonnet and then rotates. ner this 90, when released, the cap 9 is pressed in the groove 12 against the pin 5 so as to take a solid support and be prevented from turning. On the other hand, the spring 10 presses on the bottom of the drum 7 or on the discs 9 and maintains these in the locked position where they cannot rotate.
When chopping or grating, after inserting the disc 8, the cover 13 is placed on the annular rib 14. When fitting the cover 15 of the apparatus, the lower ends of the wide filling channel 16 and of the narrow filling chimney 17 are introduced, at 17 and at 19 into the opening of the cover 13. The latter carries moldings 20 extending along radii or along cords which form the ribs downwards. 21.
