cateur, par exemple le carton ;

Tampon applicators.
The present invention relates to applicators of absorbent tampons.
Many forms of these applicators are known, the most common of which comprise two telescopic tubes made of fibrous material such as paper or cardboard, the outer tube of which contains the tampon and the inner tube can slide in the outer tube to eject the tampon out of the tube. outside.
A major shortcoming of all known tampon applicators is that they cannot be easily disposed of after use because they are not easily flushed out by flushing a toilet. Even relatively high water pressure does not fully solve this difficulty and applicators tend to

so that they can sink quickly and be washed away by flushing a toilet.
Another object is to provide an antiseptic applicator.
According to the invention an easily removable tampon applicator comprises two tubes of floury material sliding one inside the other, the fibrous material being treated with a compatible wetting agent which is nonionic, cationic or anionic.
The wetting agent can be combined with a quaternary ammonium compound to obtain antiseptic properties.
The paper or other material of which the applicator is made may be impregnated with the wetting agent during manufacture, that is, the wetting agent may be introduced into the pulp or other; Alternatively, the applicators can be impregnated with the wetting agent after preparation.
It is understood that the antiseptic agent can optionally be introduced at the same stage as the impregnation of the tampon applicator with the wetting agent.
One form of wetting agent suitable for treating tampon applicators according to the invention is a composition supplied under the reference N.I.D. 62 by B.P. Detergents Limited.
The wetting agent can be used on a weight basis of 2 to 10% of the weight of the applicator material and in particular the wetting agent has been found to give optimum results when used at 4%. , 5 to 5.0% by weight of the material.
An example of the treatment of the cardboard or the applicator to obtain good wetting properties and antiseptic properties consists in incorporating into the material a 4.5% v / v solution of a nonionic and 0% "wetting" agent. 5% of

It has been found that not only is it easy to dispose of paper and board treated as described above, but that such paper or board has a smoother surface than the normal materials used in the manufacture of known types of paper. 'applicator ±.
Tampon applicators of all known types in which paper and / or cardboard is used as the raw material for the applicators can be processed according to the invention, although the latter is particularly suitable for the tampon applicators described in patent applications.
