    .Ce dispositif comprend une série de rangées de dents fixées à des éléments transversaux appropriés, qui, à leur tour, sont fixés à des éléments longitudinaux s'étendant sur une partie relativement grande de la longueur du bac. Un mouvement d'oscillation tilt im-

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

  Improvements to woolen and other textile fibers washhouses.

   This invention relates to a device for moving non-compacted fibrous material in liquids during a continuous washing process.

   A known device for advancing fiber materials, such as wool, cotton or artificial fibers, through washing and rinsing liquids in the tubs of a wash-house, applies the process known as harrow movement.

    This device comprises a series of rows of teeth attached to suitable transverse members, which in turn are attached to longitudinal members extending a relatively large part of the length of the tray. An im-

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 awarded to these teeth and support elements by suitable mechanical means, the teeth are immersed in the liquor as they move forward and they slowly advance the fibers towards the outlet end of the tray, in successive strokes.

     Although this displacement is done sparingly, there is a certain degree of entanglement of the wool fibers, which is reflected in the proportion of long fibers and short fibers obtained by combing the wool, which is due to the breaking of the fibers during the preceding carding operation.

    ; The present invention relates to a device suitable for preventing the relative movement of the fibers, so as to reduce their entanglement during washing.

   The device according to the invention comprises a number of pallets suspended from reciprocating supports, and means for maintaining the pallets vertical during the outward journey and horizontal during the return, the pallets comprising. - both the perforated anterior faces and the back plates arranged so as to allow the passage of the liquid in the pallets during the outward movement and to prevent its penetration into the pallets on return.

   The supports move in a rectilinear motion forwards and backwards, in the longitudinal direction of the wash house, and they can be driven by suitable known means, for example by a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder or by a crank and sliding rod device. The mechanism for removing and lowering the pallets, which is carried by the supports and therefore performs the same movement as the latter, as well as a separate movement of its own, can be controlled by means of another hydraulic cylinder where pneumatic or by a combined internal and external cam and chain drive.

   During washing, the material to be washed is introduced into the washing tub by suitable means. When the pallets

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 moving forward in the liquid, the fibrous material floating in the water settles on the perforated front faces of the pallets, under the action of the liquid passing through the perforations.

  The pressure exerted against the anterior faces of the pallets due to the passage of the liquid is sufficient to hold the material against these faces without there being any reciprocal displacement of the fibers, until it is released by the exit of the pallets from the liquid. .

   The effective release of the mass of material occurs when, with the paddles leaving the liquid towards the end of the forward movement, the liquid contained inside the paddles speculates by gravity through the perforations of their an- faces; to return to the tray, releasing.the treated fibers.In order for the pallets to contain sufficient liquid to ensure this effect of liquid flow and release of fibers, the backplates of the pallets are folded down as soon as possible. that these begin to come out of the liquid, thus stopping the liquid which passed through the perforations immediately before the pallets start to come out of the liquid.

   Any desired path can be provided for the lowering of the pallets into the liquid or for their exit therefrom, by appropriate mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic or electrical means, independently of the movement of the longitudinal elements, by suitable synchronization of the two separate movements, so as to obtain the best result both as regards the efficiency of the mechanism and the condition of the washed product.

   The pallets 3 are fixed at their upper ends, @ ears 5, to transverse rods 10, mounted to Latvian ro in two supports 8, which can move longitudinally on rollers 18, provided in brackets 24, fixed to the brackets. sides of the tank 1. A connecting rod 17 is connected, by arms 14 to the rods 10 so that all the rods 10 can turn simultaneously. A pneumatic cylinder 11 is mounted by means of sleepers 12 on the supports 8, its piston rod 13 being connected to one of the arms 14. The stroke of the piston rod 13 is such that, between its position of complete withdrawal and its position of complete advance, it rotates the arms. 14 and therefore the pallets 3 at an angle of 90.

   A pneumatic cylinder 19 is carried by crossbars 20, fixed to the tank 1. Its piston rod 21 is fixed to a transverse element 22, connecting together the two supports 8. A valve 25 controls the flow of air towards it. cylinder 19.

   The cylinder 19 is provided with switches 33 and 34, which are closed by the piston when it reaches its limit switches and which are connected between current supply terminals and adenoids 26 and 26a actuating pilot valves 25a and 25b to control the valve 25.

   The air flow to the cylinder 11 is controlled by a valve 32. Trip switches 27 and 28, actuated by a support 8 at the opposite ends of its stroke, are connected between current supply terminals and solenoids 31 and 31a actuating pilot valves 32a and 32b to control the fuel

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

During the operation of the machine, the wool is brought by the conveyor 2 to the left end of the tank 1, which it crosses under the action of the pallets 3, which move to the right while maintaining their vertical position .The anterior face of. each pallet 3 is perforated so that washing liquid can penetrate therein, wool, on the other hand, not being able to.

  Each pallet carries, articulated at its upper part, a wall. 35, which tilts backwards while the paddle advances to allow liquid to pass through it. Towards the end of their movement to the right, the paddles 3 are rotated by 90 under the action of the pneumatic cylinder 11 and they are removed from the liquid in a rotating motion which brings them to position 3a, shown in Fig. 4. They then move to the left in their horizontal position until they reach position 3b, little having end of movement to the left, and then return to their vertical position by pivoting 90 degrees in the opposite direction, and are thus ready for further movement to the right.

   The movement of the pallets Les is obtained as follows which is illustrated in Fig. 5. This figure represents their position after the supports 8 have moved to the right, the pallets 3 having pivoted to their horizontal position. cylinder piston 19 actuated switch 34, energizing solenoid 26 and opening pilot valve 25a. Air from the air supply duct 36 was admitted into the valve body 25, moving the valve member to the right to allow air to pass to the right side of the valve. cylinder 19 so as to control the movement of the piston towards the slag and to cause the return stroke of the supports 8.

   These move to the left and, just before the end of the stroke, the trigger switch 2.7 is actuated, thus the solenoid 31 is energized and the pilot valve 32a is opened, admitting air. in the valve body 32, to move the valve member towards the

 right, which allows the passage of air to the right side of the cylinder 11. The piston rod 13 is then withdrawn, causing the vanes 3 to pivot towards their vertical position, a movement which is completed at the same time. time for the backing of the supports 8.

   At the end of its stroke, the piston of cylinder 19 controls the switch
33 which energizes the solenoid 26a to open, the pilot valve 25b; therefore, the operation of the valve 25 is reversed and the piston returns to the right, driving the supports 8 with them. paddles 3.in vertical position e. Towards the end of the stroke, the trigger switch 28 is actuated, which causes the energization of the solenoid 31a and the opening of the pilot valve 32b, the operation of the valve 32 being reversed to move the piston of the cylinder 11 to the right and rotate the elements
3 towards their horizontal position.

   When the cylinder piston
19 reaches the end of its stroke, it actuates switch 34 and the cycle begins again.
