 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Fig.4 montre à titre d'exemple comment cet te broche peut recevoir

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 EMI6.1

  "Improvements to spindles for textile machines"
The present invention relates to spindles for textile machines such as mills or other types of doubling and twisting looms.

   The invention aims to make it possible to produce a spindle of the type in question which can be withdrawn effortlessly from the tube or other receiving support at the end of the winding operation without in any way requiring the worker to touch the mass of the desired wire. .

   The invention also aims to make it possible to establish such a spindle which does not include any part that must be dismantled in order to

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 the installation or removal of the receiving support.

   The invention finally aims to make it possible to establish a spindle of economical use, which can be used for a wide variety of receiving media with a minimum of adaptation, and which is capable of being adjusted as regards its sound. weight and the position of its center of gravity.

   The spindle according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises a cone on which is mounted an expandable sleeve with a conical bore, made of several pieces elastically tightened against each other while it is provided on the spindle. 'axis of the spindle means for pushing the sleeve back onto the supper in order to expand it. These means can advantageously consist of a simple nut screwed onto a threaded part of said axis. The tightening of the constituent parts of the expandable sleeve is preferably ensured by des'ressorts housed in grooves made in the periphery of the sleeve.

   The axis of the spindle preferably carries a suitable base to center the end of the tube or other support: receiver opposite to that in which the sleeve is expanded, this base being able to be advantageously produced in the form of a truncated cone terminated by a suitable rim. This base can be provided for removable and interchangeable depending on the supports that one wishes to mount on the spindle.

   Finally, the spindle may include an adjustable weight which is positioned on its axis between the expansion cone and the base, in order to allow the weight of this spindle and the portion of its center of gravity to be adjusted. attached drawing, given by way of example, will make it possible to better understand the invention, the characteristics which it presents and the advantages which it is likely to provide:

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

Fig. 1 is a general section of an embodiment of a spindle according to the invention.

   Fig. 2 is a partial elevational view thereof.

   Fig. 3 is a cross-section on a smaller scale of a variant with a removable base.

   Fig. 4 is a section showing how the variant of FIG. 3 can adapt to various types of receiving supports and include an interchangeable adjustment weight.

   The spindle shown in fig. 1 and 2 comprises a pin 1 provided at one of its ends (upper end in fig. 1) with a threaded part 1a on which is screwed a nut 2 integral with a skirt 2a which engages frictionally. soft on a smooth part 12 of the axis 1, this smooth part following the threaded part 1a with a diameter slightly greater than that of the latter. On the smooth part 1b is force-fitted a cone 3, the point of which is turned towards the threaded end 1a (ie upwards in the drawing). The lower base of this cone, or expansion cone, bears against a shoulder 1c which separates on the axis 1 the smooth part 1b from another smooth part 1d of greater diameter.

   This second part 1d extends to the vicinity of the lower end of the axis 1 where. it is followed by a third smooth part le of the smallest diameter on which is mounted a frustoconical base 4 locked in position by force-mounting or by crimping the end edge of the smooth part le. As shown, the cane profile of this base converges towards the threaded upper end of the axis. The large base of the base 4 has an overhanging rim 4a.

   On the cone 3 is mounted an expandable sleeve 5 comprising a conical bore having the same angle at the top as said cone 3.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 the periphery of this sleeve being cylindrical in the example shown. The sleeve 5 is made of three pieces which are held resiliently assembled with each other by means of two split rings 6 made of spring steel wire, these rings being housed in grooves 5a of the sleeve. Reference has been made to 5b in FIG. 2 the seal of two of the three successive component parts of the sleeve 5.

   The operation of the above-described spindle is as follows:
When the nut 2 is somewhat unscrewed, i.e. when it has been moved upwards on the threaded part 1a, the sleeve 5 can also be pushed upwards to a sufficient extent so that its three constituent parts come to be applied against each other. The sleeve is then in the fully contracted position and things are arranged so that its outside diameter is smaller than the minimum diameter of tubes or the like that it is to receive. It is therefore possible to thread the spindle freely into such a support until one of its ends is brought to center on the frustoconical base 4 dimensioned accordingly.

   This done, the nut 2 is screwed so that its skirt 2a pushes back the sleeve 5 which slides on the cone 3, which causes its expansion against the elastic rings 6, so that said sleeve gets stuck. inside the tube or other which is therefore made, 'integral with the spindle.

     When the desired amount of wire has been envied on the tube or other support and you want to release the spindle, all you have to do is unscrew nut 2 again and push the spindle back by acting on the end of it. which comprises the threaded part 1a, ie from top to bottom in the drawing. The sleeve
5 then slides on cone 3 and contracts, releasing the tube

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 or other that can be released without difficulty and without having to seize the mass of wire.

   The pin of fig. 1 and 2 can accommodate any type,. cylindrical support of corresponding diameter. In fig. 1 shows in dashed lines, by way of example, on the left) an unlined cardboard tube A with one end A 'folded inwardly, and on the right a tube B bubbled with an elastic layer B'. In the case of tube A, the spindle engages through the end of the latter which does not have the folded edge A '/.

   The nut 2 can be made captive by providing for. the end of the threaded part la a split ring 7.

   The spindle shown in fig. 1 is intended for. be guided by its ends in suitable grooves, the winding resting on a drive drum. To this end, said ends are provided with conical end pieces 1f capable of turning in the grooves of the support.

   In the embodiment of fig.3 there is shown at 1g a knurling made on the smooth part 1d of the axis 1 to better lock in place the expansion cone 3. In addition the skirt 2a of fig. 1 and 2 is replaced by an independent tubular spacer 8 which plays the same role. But the main difference from the execution form of fig. 1 and 2 resides in the fact that the base 4 is mounted with gentle friction on the smooth part and is locked in position by a nut 9 screwed onto a lower threaded part 1h of the axis 1, so that this base is easily removable and interchangeable.

   As the expandable sleeve 5 is also easy to remove and replace, the spindle can adapt to all shapes and sizes of receiving media: tubes, coils, cones, etc. Fig. 4 shows by way of example how this brooch can receive

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 no longer a cylindrical tube A, as in tiara 1, but a cone C made of cardboard or other material, simply by using a sleeve 5 with a frustoconical periphery and a base 14 of larger diameter.

   It will also be noted that the easy removability of the base 4 or 14 makes it possible to mount on the intermediate smooth part 1d of the axis of the spindle a weight 10 which is blocked in position by means of a screw 11. Such a weight, itself removable and easily interchangeable, ensures the adjustment of the weight of the spindle and of the position of its center of gravity, which is of considerable interest for certain works.
 EMI6.1

  It will be understood that the pin of FIG. 3 and 4 is practically universal in application, in that it allows the user to mount on it all the supports existing in practice with a sufficient stock of expandable sleeves, bases and weights, all the rest of the pin remaining unchanged.
