Abstract
Tobacco fragments in the form of strips, leaf or rods are impregnated with a composition which is capable of decomposing into a gas. The impregnated tobacco is subjected to treatment (heat) in order to liberate gas from the composition within the tobacco fragments thereby to swell the tobacco. Pref. gas is CO2.
