Abstract

Sealed bags or packages are manufactured continuously by (a) folding a sheet of thermoweldable film into two panels with an intermediate V-shaped gusset, (b) cutting notches at predetermined intervals in the four-thicknesses at the edge of the fold, (c) introducing a thin strip or ribbon into each of the cut marginal folds, (d) joining each of the two flaps of the gusset to the adjacent panels by a longitudinal welding line at a level between the base of the notches and the top of the V section of the gusset and (e) carrying out a simultaneous cutting-welding operation along the transverse lines situated halfway between successive notches and the thin strip. Provides sealed bags in which the contents are fully protected before opening by the purchaser. The bags can be automatically and economically produced at high rates.
