Abstract

Antibiotic benzofuran derivs. Title cpds. of formulae (Ia) and (Ib) (where R1 is alkyl and R2 is-COC3H7, -COC4H9, -COC5H11 or -COCH2C6H5) are prepared by oxidising an R1 and R2-substituted phloroglucinol with Mn (III) acetylacetonate and eliminating 1 mol of H2O from the resulting hydrousnic acid deriv.
