Abstract

Method of compacting and sintering refractory non-metal powders, e.g. SiN, to produce uniform defect free compacts. All adjacent mating surfaces of die components are coated with another fine refractory powder, e.g. BN, Al2O3 etc, prior to cold compression, such that pressure is transmitted indirectly through this powder. This results in improved axial pressure distribution and more homogenous end product.
