Process for rapidly detecting the flow rate of CO2 from a converter is by (a) continuously measuring the intensity (S) of the noise from the converter in a specific frequency range pref. 500 Hz (b) continuously measuring the height of the foam above the metal melt, (c) establishing the law of variation of (S) as a function of CO2 flow rate (DCO2) and foam height (HM) throughout blowing by an equation of the type S = f(DCO2, HM) and (d) resolving S = f (DCO2, HM) with DCO2 as the unknown.
