Abstract
The graphite to be converted to diamond is moulded or machined into a shape which will allow for shrinkage of up to 20-30 (25)% under pressure, and is embedded in a monolithic refractory die, in catalyst powder of fine particle size and heated by electric impulse to 1500 degrees C for 0.1-10 seconds at a pressure of >=80 kbar.
