Abstract
A submarine pipeline formed from lengths of tube welded end to end on land, and having positive buoyancy is propelled towards the sea and laid by pontoon in the position required relative to the seabed. A supporting device with variable buoyancy chambers is secured to the forward end of the pipeline and to the laying pontoon where control equipment is available for modifying the buoyancy of the chambers in the supporting device whilst anchorage assemblies are applied to the pipeline submerging it and holding it where it is maintained by its own buoyancy some distance from the seabed.
