Abstract

By the method the waste lead battery paste produced in theseparation of old storage batteries is reworked until theproduction of metallic lead, lead carbonate, red lead or leadglaze and sodium sulphate. The desulphatization of the paste ismade by selective dissolution of the lead sulphate the amount ofwhich is prevailing in it, in solutions of diethyleneamine, fromwhich, after the addition of sodium carbonate, lead carbonate issettled. Red lead or lead glaze is produced from the latter byheat decomposition. The sulphate ions are removed from the schemein the form of sodium sulphate and the amine solutions aresimultaneously regenerated. After desulphatization the remaindercontains the oxides of lead, and metallic lead is produced from itby reduction melting.
