Abstract

A biocomposite crimped acrylic fiber, with a tow of two copolymers of close molecular weight based on acrylonitrile, at least one ester selected from the group consisting of acrylic and vinyl esters, with at least one monomer containing sulfone groups, which fiber is crimped , characterized in that in the two copolymers on which the curling is based, the average content of monomer units derived from said ester is from 4.5 to 5.7%, the difference in the content of said units between the two copolymers being from 1.9 to 3.2 , the average content of the monomer units of said copolymer containing sulfone groups is from 40 to 60 acid milliequivalents per kilogram of the fiber, the difference in the content of said units in the two copolymers not exceeding 25 acid milliequivalents per kilogram of the fiber , and the copolymer that contains the higher percentage of monomer units than the ester also contains a higher percentage of monomer units than the sulfone group-containing comonomer. A method of producing bio-component crimped acrylic fiber by fiberizing spinning solutions composed of polymer and solvent dimethyl formamide, dimethylacetamide or dimethylsulfoxide, spinning, subsequent stretching in hot water, washing if desired, finishing, drying and heat treatment, characterized by that the spinning solutions are composed of solutions of two component copolymers in an organic spinning solvent which are mixed with water, the difference in concentration of the two component copolymers being no greater than 5% of the lower concentration, the temperature of the two solutions of the component copolymers before extrusion is up to 10's, the difference in the amount of the two spinning solutions taken to the extrusion and calculated as polymer content is up to 5%, the solvent is a water-miscible organic solvent, both spinning solutions contain the lead and the average percentage of the water contained in both solutions is from 1 to 4%, as p
