Abstract
This method is an application for the textile industry. It is used for preparing antistatic fibers with high absorption capacity for electromagnetic waves. The method involves treating polyacrylonitrile fibers with an aqueous solution containing a cobalt salt, sodium thiosulphate, potassium hydroxide and glyoxal at pH value of 9-10. Raising the temperature from 20 to 75 degrees C continued for 20-60 minutes, followed by treatment at the higher latter end temperature for 10-30 minutes and boiling for another 30-120 minutes. The optimal cobalt salt-sodium thiosulphate-glyoxal ratio is within the 3:1:1 - 1:2:0.5 range with preference given to 1:1:0.5.
