Abstract

"COMPOSIçãO POLIMéRICA PARA CURA DE UMA RESINA NOVOLAC E COMPOSIçãO NOVOLAC CURáVEL". é descrita uma composição polimérica que pode ser usada para curar uma resina novolac em uma temperatura mais baixa do que a dos agentes de cura de novolac convencionais e com reduzida emissão de compostos voláteis. A composição polimérica agente de cura de novolac é preparada pela misturação e reação em solução aquosa de um monómero fenólico e um aldeído na presença de um catalisador básico para formar uma resina intermediária, e pela reação da resina intermediária com uma amina para formar a composição polimérica. A razão molar de aldeído para monómero fenólico na reação deve ser de pelo menos cerca de 1,0:1, e preferivelmente é de pelo menos cerca de 2,0:1. A amina preferida é hexametileno-tetramina, e é preferido que a razão molar de hexametileno-tetramina para monómero fenólico seja de pelo menos cerca de 0,12:1. Em uma versão preferida, o aldeído é formaldeído, e o monómero fenólico é selecionado do grupo consistindo de fenol, fenóis substituídos, e suas misturas, com o próprio fenol sendo o monómero fenólico mais preferido. O polímero é particularmente vantajoso pelo fato de que a temperatura de reação é menor em comparação com a dos outros agentes de cura convencionais, o monómero fenólico não reagido na composição polimérica pode ser ajustado para níveis menores do que cerca de 0,5 por cento em peso, e o aldeído não reagido na composição polimérica pode ser ajustado para níveis menores do que cerca de 0,1 por cento em peso. Como um resultado, o polímero apresenta mínima liberação de compostos voláteis quando utilizado para curar resinas novolac, e diferentemente de convencionais agentes de cura resol, possui uma vida útil indefinida tanto na forma pura quanto quando misturado com resinas novolac.
