Abstract
"CéLULA ELETROQUìMICA". Uma célula eletroquímica alcalina que tem um catodo que compreende dióxido de manganês e fibras de carbono à base de piche de mesofase grafitizadas condutoras que têm uma maior área da superfície BET entre aproximadamente 10 e 60 m^ 2^/g, desejavelmente entre aproximadamente 10 e 50 m^ 2^/g, de preferência entre aproximadamente 30 e 50 m^ 2^/g por tratamento térmico entre 800 e 1200<198>C com hidróxido de potássio. As fibras de carbono à base de piche de mesofase grafitizadas tratadas podem compreender entre aproximadamente 1 e 100 por cento em peso do material de grafita total no catodo, tipicamente entre aproximadamente 5 e 50 por cento em peso do grafita total. O grafita total no catodo desejavelmente compreende entre aproximadamente 4 e 10 por cento em peso do catodo. A grafita pode ser misturas das fibras de carbono à base de piche de mesofase grafitizadas com grafita cristalina em flocos que incluem grafitas expandidas. As fibras de carbono à base de piche de mesofase grafitizadas têm um diâmetro médio tipicamente entre aproximadamente 1 e 10 mícrons.
