Gás natural é reagido com vapor, de modo a gerar monóxido de carbono e hidrogênio em um primeiro reator catalítico; a mistura de gás resultante é usada para realizar a síntese de Fischer-Tropsch em um segundo reator catalítico. Após realizar a síntese de Fischer-Tropsch, o hidrogênio restante é separado de uma corrente rica em hidrocarboneto usando uma membrana permeável a hidrogênio, e a corrente rica em hidrocarboneto é retornada para ser submetida à reforma com vapor. Preferivelmente, a corrente rica em hidrogênio é suprida em um canal de combustão de modo a prover calor para a reação endotérmica de reforma com vapor. O processo global converte gás natural em hidrocarbonetos de cadeia mais longa e pode prover uma conversão de carbono acima de 80%.
